<div class="IPBDescription">and stopping them</div> Hola - I'm trying to streamline this slow old computer a wee bit, and I see in the processes list that there are things running every time the computer is booted that just aren't used any longer. I can't find them in the "startup" folder of the start menu, so I assume there's some other way I need to disable them.

Any idea how?

    It goes to the New Zealand version of msconfig, which is RADICALLY different than the American version. You'll destroy your motherboard, powersupply, and processor if you do.

    Theclam is correct, however go to start, run, and type msconfig, go to startup, and deselect the programs you do not want running.

    i gotta recommend Taskinfo, a very hant program gives u nice overview over running tasks and connections, ram and much much more.

    Or if you can find one of the old free versions, Startup Cop is great, and doesn't leave the cruft behind that msconfig does. Grabs EVERYTHING that starts, lists the program, location, where it's called from, and lets you 'quarantine' startup items, just in case one of those bits and bobs you pull out turns out to be a vital component of the operating system. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    If you know a little about the registry editor, you can delete and change keys, but since thats kinda dangerous....

    Use regcleaner, there is a section based on the registry items called startup items, from there you can get basic information about startup launched programs and you can stop them accordingly, you can also make backups since you may end up deleting something like display driver interfaces.....

    to find it use google.

    Startup Cop failed to identify anything that wasn't already showing via msconfig on my box, your mileage may vary.

    However, it <b>DID</b> reveal 1 thing running that had a <b><span style='color:red'>X</span></b> by it, signifying it couldn't find the program. I deselected it, hit apply, restarted the computer, and it returned. The 2nd time I deleted this key/program/whichever it was and hit apply, then restarted. It returned again. Whatever I try, be it deselecting or deleting, it returns with the <b><span style='color:red'>X</span></b>.

    The name is <b>NvCplDaemon</b> and the path is <b>RUNDLL32.EXE C:\\Windows\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup</b> Any clue what this is, or why it can't be deleted?

    For the people that cant be bothered to click jimmehs link, its something for nvidia drivers. I find using microsofts anti spyware program lets me remove processes.

    The link gave several references to descriptions of and programs (not free) to delete this but after an hour of sifting through it I give up.

    Is there an easy way to delete this from Startup?
