Keo- Send Messages To The Future!

MantridMantrid Lockpick Join Date: 2003-12-07 Member: 24109Members
What it is: <a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KEO' target='_blank'>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KEO</a>

In 2006, a sattellite called KEO is going to be launched as a time capsule, that will return to earth in 50,000 years. And every person on earth is allowed to submit a message that future generations can read:

<a href='http://www.keo.org/uk/pages/message.php' target='_blank'>http://www.keo.org/uk/pages/message.php</a>

I think this is very cool. We'll all be long dead, but its kind of neat that you can talk to the future of humanity.

50,000 years? By then we probably won't even speak the same language any more. 5000 years would be more than future enough.

Wouldn't speaking with our mouths also be outdated by then? I mean surely we'd be telepathic by that time.

I'd be more worried about anything that's going to care about the satellite lasting that long.

I'd be more worried about the spacecraft burning up on reentry...

There's no way they'd send something up with a big heavy heatsheild on it just on a whim. Too expensive.

We need to start a chain letter or something...

"50,000 years ago, a game was created by a man known only as Flayra. He used his powers to absorb the imaginative creativity of MILLIONS of children, leaving them mindless zombies.

Now he's back. By reading this message, you have awakened his spirit. Only by overexposure can he be defeated, as then the children can resist his mental attack. Spread this message to as many people as possible, for the safety of mankind and the preservation of the future."

I mean, they'll need chainletters in the future, right?
  • AlienCowAlienCow Join Date: 2003-09-20 Member: 21040Members
    Send this to 50 people or you will be haunted by Flayra's spirit^ <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

(it wont even last in space.. much less earths reentry..) which is alleged to hold earths random messages...

I should think that the clever people have thought through the whole issue of allowing the capsule to actually survive and return, don't get your knickers in a twist.

My only qualm is that language will have developed so much in 50,000 years that they will have no hope of reading it. Of course to counter this with all their technology and resources they may have many examples of our current language on record, theres no reason why they wouldn't.

Uhm.. hello, is this Mr. Caboose from the year 2005? We just recieved your message from the time capsule and sent back a guy in a time-travel machine to give you the answer to your questions:

    - No, hardcore pron still isn't considered an art.

    - Yes, there are Space Marines. Most of them are currently fighting an alien race called the "Khirii". But this won't be anyproblem, we think. The president of the world, Mr. the-head-of-George-Dubya-Bush-in-a-tank, ust said on an interview that he thinks this conflict will be settled within a couple of weeks.

    - No, our records don't show any sign for a nymphomanic tribe of space amazons having taken over earth within the last 50.000 years.

    Regards

    Don Joe, year 52.005

    Hypergrip wins at life.

I don't see why they have to send it into space though, really. Just dump it down a really deep abyss in the ocean. By the time it's meant to be read, technology will have advanced enough for people to retrieve it.

Sent my message. Around 5000 signs, general tenor: "Who - or whatever you are, think for yourself."

Oh, and you don't have to enter an adress. All you need to give to them are general demographic infos (age, country of residence, mother tongue...).
