yah, I say Navy or AF, more techie stuff in them...

Personaly I think all of them suck equaly (especialy ATM), though any one who does join up and serve has my full respect and support (untill they act like a twit).

and yah, go join Renegade and get shot in the face.

or join MonsE's old unit and eat a rat.

Why don't you join the National Guard? Win-win. Or the AF, that sounds good, too. And you also have a post-retirement possibility of flying commercial jet-liners.

Airforce FTW! It's somewhere near a zillion times cooler, and there's less chance of Nethack-style YASD.

For the record, any of my men could absolutely wipe the floor with a Marine. Marines are strictly combat, your average Army recruit is much more versatile in the roles they can take up.

The Air Force will give you the best living conditions but the slowest promotion rate. The Army is just the opposite. Forget about the Navy unless they guarantee you 3 years in Jacksonville/Mayport NAS, and the Rines are nothin but a bunch of grunts ... ... ...

My cousin is in the Navy and she had her first year and a half living in virgina while the Nimitz class air craft carrier she's been assigned to was being refit. She got to help work on it while the whole damn thing was tore up and exopsed. Being the techie that I am, I would love to be able to examine that thing. Every time I talk to her I get more and more jealous of the badass ship she will live in for another two years.

Do you really think its wise to join the military what with the war and all?

On the other hand, you could join the marines, take some martial arts classes, get stationed in the middle of the desert in Iraq, and then pretend you're a Fedaykin.

Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force...they're all sissies. Real men join the CIA. You get to work with beautiful, exotic women. You get to use state of the art equipment. You get to go into dangerous situations. You have to rely on yourself, rather than depending on others, meaning that only real men can handle it.

The CIA is filled with sociopathic hitmen and pencil pushing bureaucrats, nothing in between.

And Thansal, I most definitely have nothing to do with Networking. If I did, I'd probably have a higher pay grade (damn techies).

no point in joining the airforce if you havent finished college theyll have you loading bullets on airplanes and there is no fun in that if you are thinking of joining the airforce to fly a plane then you better damn finish college

Heh...but I'm guessing he's really referring to the clause in most military contracts where if there is an active war going on, they can tell you you aren't allowed to quit. If we ever manage to end the war and get back to peace though, then you can all quit like normal.

Edit: /me reads Chronos post

Yes, whoever's been telling him to join the Air Force cause its cooler to fly planes, you should know that only about 1-2% of the Air Force actually flies planes. Most of them sit around on the ground, possibly working on planes as mechanics, possibly just pushing paper as beaurocrats. Theres a reason the Air Force has the lowest physical fitness requirements of any branch...

I'm going Marines a year after I get out of high school. Why? They are sent directly to the action. They are always in the ****, and are thusly trained better for it.

I am shocked at all the Marine slander in here.
First off, I am a Marine. I have been a Marine for 5 years now and will be reenlisting in a few months.
During my time in, I have worked with every branch a lot. I am in "Hell" right now as a matter of fact, sharing my base with Army and Air Force. And My roommate is a Navy medic.
I have no idea where you people get your ideas about Marines from. No one I have met in the Marine Corps(include the Grunts) are Manic in the way you people describe, or stupid.
Every branch has its ups and downs, and it all depends on what you want to do and why you are going into the military.

Every branch dislikes the other branches, but fact is Marines do more with less than all the other branches, and they dont complain.

Well, I don't really have a lot of experience to add since I've never joined any branch, but here is my take on it. With age requirements, not to mention almost all branches prefer you take the ASAP(test) at least once unless you did so during school, which most do.

IF you are at least 18:
Army: Good
Navy: Ok
Marines: Fair
Air Force: Good

If you are at least 21:
National Guard: Very good
Police (local/federal): Excellent
Border Patrol: Good
FireFigher: Excellent
FBI/CIA/Secret Service: Good

(Just for those that suggest police work, it is a federal requirement that you be at least 21 to work for a government job that requires you to protect someone in a personal manner.)

(Myself, I'm going for police)

I dont know about the "protecting people issue" as you cn do that in the military and be only 18 (and I think 17 if you have parents consent and waiver)

You have to be age 21 for any law enforcement job local, state, or federal.

One of the primary reasons is thedeadly weapon issue. You have to be 21 to carry a handgun.
Military personel might carry one but they are exempt from the law only when on duty and as their duty permits.

So one must be 21 by the time of employment. In some areas a 20 year old might be hired and sent through the police academy but they cannot acutally "work" or be sworn in until their 21st birthday.

Meh, I don't know too much about the US armed forces themselves (though I know their equipment), but my cousin (Marine Lt. 1st Class) who spent 4 months as an intel officer in Fallujah tells me that the Marines basically get the toughest jobs with the least equipment. They were using all kinds of Army hand-me-downs, and when I visited Quantico with her the guards all had Benelli M4 shotguns for some reason...

You don't. One day you wake up and are immediately punched back to sleep by a large man then you wake up in the pentagon where you are given your first mission to defend freedom as a man without a past.

Coming this summer.
