@Flayra : I know that you are searching a private investor to be independent from publishers. But I recommand on submitting the investor search to bluesnews, shacknew and co.

    yes there will

@mappers: oh man, you could make some sweet maps for NS:S. you could have a furnace area with a corridor blocked by flames. then have a weldable that turns off the flames, like a vent that closes and slowly cuts off the flames till they're gone. the murky water in feedwater would look a lot better on source too. oh man, imagine getting a big steel plate, covering a door with it, and actually welding it to the door to close it off.

    i cant wait for ns:s and ns2

and the nexus was already guessed in another thread. Nem0 narrowed it down to a stats system, a campaign, and a steam-like system (minus the content distribution)

The mailing list is a good idea, but by keeping the announcement within the community you don't get exposure on other gaming news sites. I'm assuming you've got a general publicity plan, I just wanted to point that out.

would it be safe to assume that in ns2 there will be no monthly cost to play online?

Well, that most likely depends on what kind of game it is. If it's something huge like Planetside, with a central server and everything that would require maintenance costs every month...then maybe. If it's more like today's NS, only bigger in scope, then probably not.

If it remains a small scale FPS then no... We really don't know anything about the nature of NS2, so it really isn't safe to assume anything.

A copy of the mailing list email is at the top of this thread, verbatim.

Like a previous poster said, US$50,000 is a lot in my country. Are you looking for OS investers or prefer US ones?

Just a suggestion, but when the game does ship, dont call it NS2, cause when people look for NS1(So to speak) and find its free, you wont sell as many copies of NS2 in the short term. People will eventually buy NS2 based on the quality of the original mods.

Along with a significant $ investment, are there oppotunities available to be involved in other parts of marketing? Books etc?

NS with a facelift, it's a win win situation. Still, I think NS looks great, when you consider the engine it is on.

Huh. Totally disagree. I couldn't care less about the artwork, so long as I was able to tell friend from foe. For me, the biggest draw to NS has always been the unusual game-play. Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with the graphics. They're verra naas, just not what brought me to the game or held my attention after. Graphics are like icing to my view. Nice if they're there, but really not that important.

Although I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.. it seems game companies are more and more concerned these days with shiny graphics than great play, so it stands to reason there's a market for that.

Considering NS just got the Mapping award in the ModDB awards, I'd say they're a big part of the game.

And also considering how maps have been rejected simply based on looks, rather than gameplay.

I'm wondering if I can donate some money to the NSII project, like what was proposed before that if NSII is going to made, I can donate early and get the full version, rather than pay full later. Will I be able to do that?

And if I do, will I become a constellation member, or will I have to donate seperatly for that?

you could call it Natural Selection: The War. based on the old description of ns2

then again, people still buy sequels even if the previous version is cheap/free....so i wouldt think thats so much of an issue.

Any way it falls, the dev team probably has more than a year or 2 before they have to decide on a title.

Gameplay > All and is why i keep playing NS for so long.

Although the port to source will be jaw dropping :-P

I think Ns is the game that took the most time of my real life...ever

No Diablo1&2, Cs&other mods, swg or anything else managed to hold me for such a long time.

This is because Ns has a unique gameplay and a strong community. And constant patches that really bring great changes with them helped a lot too.

Ns:s ...well of course i am waiting for it. Like everyone else with a HL² account is...but still i hope it wont split the ns community too much.

Ns2: If i still play pc games by the time this one come sout i ll definately buy it. Just because its from unknown worlds entertainment.

    Keep up the great work

calling it ns2 wont really send people away from ns2 and over to ns, it will make them check out ns after they buy ns2. this is what happened when gta3 was released. everybody loved it, and sales of gta1 and 2 took a jump from people who were wondering what the previous versions were like

Agreed. I found that part of the e-mail newsletter almost laughable, no offense. That's a signifigant ammount of money to invest, heck I don't even have half that much in my bank. I do have a rich uncle and he's cool enough to invest a bit in the game industry, say $100 or so. But $50,000? Not to be mean but investors would laugh simply for this reason: Why is it worth my investment? What do I get out of this for $50,000. Look Flayra, if you offered up stock in UWE to NS members I'd gladly buy some. I'm sure many of us would, but most college students don't have a spare $50,000 to spend. I'm sorry.

Well investment is more geared to actual investors, as opposed to current NS players. There is some overlap of course, and those are the folks that could be especially interested.

We have lawyers, musicians, bankers playing NS...why not investors?

Bankers!? and LAWYERS!? Playing the game, I PLAY? I won't have it!
Next you'll tell me that plumbers are the source of all evil..
I won't play this game any longer.

(Yeah, yoinking someone for a $50,000 contribution to a development studio of unknown proportions, would be nice)
