    Powerful music:

Main theme from the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack
    Wash My Soul - Tricky
    Giving In - Adema
Two Tabs of Mescaline - Glassjaw
    Knife Prty - Deftones
    Group Four - Massive Attack
An Agreement Called Forever - 36 Crazyfists
    Nanu - Factory 81
    Pumpkin - Tricky
    Follow - Sevendust
    Bury the Evidence - Tricky
    Purity 01 - Five Pointe O
Horns and Tails - Poison the Well
    -1 - Mudvayne
Slit Wrist Theory - 36 Crazyfists
    Unfinished Sympathy - Massive Attack

A whole range of different kinds of emotion (and musical styles) in there, and it's all pretty powerful.

    The anger, THE ANGER!!! <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> (don't mind me...)

Anduril from Return of the King (sword re-forging theme) > all. Best. Brass Entrance. Evar.

As far as all-out in your face power and awesomeness, give some high-level drum corps a shot. Cavaliers (particularly the 2000-2002 shows), Blue Devils, Vanguard, etc. You might not necessarily expect it, but there's a pretty aggressive and powerful presence behind 70-some brass instruments and people who can crank out that many octaves. Can you tell I like powerful brass? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The Rebel Base theme from Freedom Fighters (the game) is really surreal, too. soft choral, minimal other sounds... but just really impressive. Along the same game-based lines, the Brothers in Arms theme released by Gearbox is also worth a listen. Though there's more brass than the rebel base theme. Yay!

    Yeah... that's what I can think of right now. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I like a lot of different music. But I just cannot for the life of me understand rap(and really don't want to either).

Here's a few of my favorites:
Comic bakery, by Martin Galway. mmm harsh waveforms
    Mr.Blue sky, ELO
    Electrolite, R.E.M.
I think I'll disappear now, crash test dummies
    Homburg, procol harum
    Human racing, Nik Kershaw
Treat me like a fool, Elvis
    bouree, Jethro Tull
MacArthur park, Richard Harris (voted worst song ever by readers of some mag in 1992, covered by more than 50 albums and topped the charts twice in '68 and 78, weird metaphorical lyrics with a cake melting in the rain)
    time and a word, yes
here comes the flood, Peter Gabriel
    Firth of the fifth, Genesis

    Some more stuff

"<i><a href='http://www.hymn.ru/index-en.html' target='_blank'>Anthem of Russia</a></i>" - Very few national anthems interest me that much, but the Russian one (the most recent, adapted from the Soviet one) well...I simply love it. Especially when either vocal only, full orchestra or piano accompaniment. It sends tingles up my spine, as all songs I find beautiful do.

"<i>Lost in Space</i>" by the Lighthouse family - Just a beautiful song. The singer's voice is great.

    "<i>Away</i>", "<i>Beauty of the Beast</i>" "<i>Dead Boy's Poem</i>" "<i>Lappi (eramaajarvi)</i>" by Nightwish - Tarja's voice is hauntingly beautiful.

    "<i>Walking in the Air</i>" by Nightwish/Aled Jones/various others - It's a brilliant piece. That's about all I can say about it.

    "<i>Children</i>" by Robert Miles

"<i>Going to Where the Wind Blows</i>" and "<i>Going to Where The Wind Blows - Reprise</i>" from Soul Calibur

    "<i>With or Without You</i>" by U2

"<i>See You on the Other Side</i>", "<i>Changes</i>" by Ozzy Osbourne

"<i>These Are The Days of our Lives</i>" by Queen

"<i>Rocket Man</i>", "<i>Your Song</i>", many many others by Sir Elton John - I love the piano. He plays one well and also has a great voice.

    "<i>Nessum Dorma</i>" - Luciano Pavarotti

    "<i>Ave Maria</i>"

<i>Agnus Dei</i>/<i>Adagio for Strings</i> by Samuel Barber - Same tune, different variants.

Dvorak's 9th Symphony Mvt. 2 "From The New World"

    Turmion Kätilöt - Teurastaja

I'm not finnish so I have no idea what they sing, their music is a little close to impossable to find except on their website, which you can google. Their kind of a rising band, they sound really cool. Teurastaja is my fav song they made. I heard their lyrics are really funny, though.

(btw, dont bother p2ping it, its impossable to find, trust me ;D)

The renditions of Here Comes The Sun and A Day in the Life found on
<a href='http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3841819' target='_blank'>In My Life</a>, which is basically covers of Beatles songs performed by various celebrities, such as Robin Williams singing Come Together and a stirring rendition of I Am The Walrus by Jim Carrey. That said, these two songs are done as instrumentals.

The only piece of game music I can think of offhand that actually has a title is Hubris - Reprise off the Soul Calibur 2 soundtrack.

Even though I don't truly enjoy the Zelda games, I appreciate their music. Try this one, don't worry, it's neither the full version, nor is it in the best quality. I don't think they even make the CDs anymore...

Beautiful is more than just great as there are plenty of songs that I enjoy but rarely listen too. Beautiful songs are the ones you always go back to when you're down, the ones that never fail to inspire emotion in you. Songs that you wouldn't want to live without.

I've got through about a page and a half so far. Don't have time today but will try and get hold of some of the others tomorrow. Thanks again for all the suggestions <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> I think listing inspiring music is a good exercise for people anyway, if you think about it and you instantly start smiling you know it is a good song.

    A few more:

Soulfly - Soulfly and Soulfly II
(definitely not representative of the sound of the group, but it's some beautiful tribal stuff)
Meg Lee Chin - London (I love the piano interlude)
Glassjaw - Tip Your Bartender (wow)
Factory 81 - The Oddessy (rare, poor recording, off of their second unreleased album before they broke up)
Factory 81 - SSBB (ditto, both songs have a different sound from Nanu or the rest of the first album)
    Il Nino - Lifeless... Life...
    36 Crazyfists - Bloodwork
    Tricky - Evolution Revolution Love
Kidneythieves - Before I'm Dead (acoustic)
Killswitch Engage - The Element of One
    Taproot - I
    Mudvayne - Death Blooms
Nirvana - Something in the Way
Chimaira - Cleansation (very heavy song and group, but there's a certain beauty in the way this song flows forward)
    40 Below Summer - Rope
    Five Pointe O - Double X Minus
The Crystal Method - Wide Open
Meg Lee Chin - Swallowing You

Again, a wide range of stuff in there, but they all share the same sense of power and energy or momentum, whatever it might be, that really appeals to me.

I wanted to add a few more. These ones are more contemporary as opposed to the previous set I posted, not sure why I made a distinction of leaving them out:

    Ben Folds Five - Brick
    Matthew Good Band - Apparations
    Franz Ferdinand - Auf Achshe
    Sloan - The Other Man
Rob Dougan - Clubbed to Death
Yann Tiersen - Comptine d'un autre été (Amelie Sountrack)

Additional Classicals for when you're feeling megalomaniac:

Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky - A Night on Bald Mountain
Edvard Hagerup Grieg - The Hall of the Mountain King
Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev - Romeo and Juliet Suite No. 2
Johann Sebastian Bach - Toccata and Fugue in D minor (Kind of a hard pick, but I think I enojy the Fantasia version over the organ version)

Holy Hell... How did I forget these:

Johnny Cash - Hung My Head
Johnny Cash - When the Man Comes Around
Johnny Cash - Hurt (There are differing opinions, but I find this cover far superior to the Nine Inch Nails version)

    <b><u>Gaming Music</b></u>

    <i>Composed by Yasunori Mitsuda</i>:

    <a href='http://www.opcoder.com/projects/chrono/media/music/Chrono%20Trigger%20Resurrection%20-%20Corridors%20of%20Time.mp3' target='_blank'>Chrono Trigger: Resurrection - Corridors of Time (Matthew Valente Remix)</a>
    Chrono Trigger - Theme (Orchestrated)

Finally, I'm not sure if you will be able to overlook the limitations that comes with MOD files, and generally I've found that people find these songs are annoying because of it. But I genuinely think that if these songs were orchestrated like the many old-school Nintendo game themes, they would be just as, if not, more amazing. Even in their current format, I still find these songs beautiful. With that being said however, listen at your own risk:

    <a href='http://www3.telus.net/confuzor/Star%20Control%20II%20-%20Hyperspace.mod' target='_blank'>Star Control II - Hyperspace</a>
    <a href='http://www3.telus.net/confuzor/Star%20Control%20II%20-%20Yehat.mod' target='_blank'>Star Control II - Yehat</a>
    <a href='http://www3.telus.net/confuzor/Crusader%20No%20Remorse%20-%20Menu.mod' target='_blank'>Crusader: No Remorse - Theme</a>

Out of curiousity, what about any rap/hiphop/rnb/soul? The closest thing we've had so far is Tupac - Changes.

Looks like many people don't consider that kind of music beautiful which is a shame. Thanks to all so far <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
