Beautiful Music Suggestions Please

What songs affect you?
Hey guys, just wondering if you could give me a hand. I love music, pretty much every different type available, however I've run out of decent new music to listen too so I was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions. What I'm looking for is powerful, emotional music, it doesn't necessarily have to be beautiful in a ballady-elton-john-celine-dion type way as that kind of plastic, unoriginal stuff has just never appealed to me. Beauty can be found in the heaviest metal, the maddest jungle, the trippiest trance or the most miserable of 'alternative'.
The rules are:
1) It must be fairly original, that means no Britney Spears etc unless you justify why that song is original...
2) Try to seperate memorys from the music for a moment. There are plenty of songs that are beautiful because you associate them with a certain moment but as I won't have those memorys it wont be the same for me.
3) Specific songs only, no albums or bands as I will get into the rest of it if I like that first song.
4) No mocking other peoples taste in this thread please, even if it is hanson or something
I hope you can all help and maybe get something out of this thread too. I made this thread a while back in another forum and that was very successful so I might put in some of the suggestions later. Make sure you don't limit your self to genres that are more appealing, if you love a song then post it even if everyone else hates it. My taste is pretty eclectic. Oh and if the song you suggest isn't representative of the bands work then please mention it, I don't fancy trying to track down one-hit-wonders

Comments
Return to innocence by Enigma
A great day for Freedom, Marooned, Poles Apart and High Hopes from the Pink Floyd Album "The Division Bell"
Wave Sound of Morning from the Shemue Orchestral Soundtrack
That's about all I can think of right now.
O Mio Babbino Caro by Puccini
The End of Medicine by The New Pornographers (despite the name it's not NSFW)
Storm by Godspeed You Black Emperor! (the first 7 minutes especially)
I Offered It up to the Stars and the Night Sky by The Dirty Three
Silverchair - Across the Night
Silverchair - Luv Your Life
Silverchair - After All These Years
Silverchair - Emotion Sickness
Eskimo Joe - Wake Up
Nine Days - If I Am
Will you come back and say what you think of everybody's suggestions once you've heard them?
edit: great piano song, it's calm and quite soothing.
New Born - Muse, Origin of Symmetry
Plug In Baby - Muse, Origin of Symmetry
Space Dementia - Muse, Origin of Symmetry
Citizen Erased - Muse, Origin of Symmetry
Feelin' Good - Muse, Origin of Symmetry
Apocalypse Please - Muse, Absolution
Hysteria - Muse, Absolution
Butterflies and Hurricanes - Muse, Absolution
Chop Suey! - System of a Down, Toxicity
Toxicity - System of a Down, Toxicity
Spieluhr - Rammstein, Mutter
With You - Linkin Park, Hybrid Theory
Forgotten - Linkin Park, Hybrid Theory
It's soothing in a way. Also mesmorizing, and it's just plain cool sounding.
You are welcome to suggest in game music if you wish (I have remixes of bomberman on my computer at the moment) but bear in mind I do have to try and get hold of them to listen to them. I don't want to come back and say that your choices are so obscure that I couldn't listen to them . Thanks everyone already, we already have a nice mix.
Oh, and if people want to they can say exactly why it is beautiful or emotional, it may persuade others to try and get hold of it too.
If you want really really happy... Mr Scruff - Sweet Smoke
Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same
Radiohead - Knives Out
Radiohead - Lucky
Clapton - White Room
That should do it for now.
Somehow reminded me of how dumb I was back then and makes me want to change everything that time....now.

NumbersnotFound: I have both Trouser Jazz and Keep it Unreal by Mr Scruff, brilliant albums, so chilled out, so clever and sweet smoke has always been a favourite of mine. I also have every Radiohead album out (and Muse for SoulSkorpion) and I'm trying to build up my collection of b-sides and live/accoustic versions now. You have good taste.
All the other songs will have to wait for now as it is 5:15am and I'm finally feeling tired.
Nine Inch Nails - Something I Can Never Have
Nine Inch Nails - La Mer
Queensryche - Spreading the Disease (this whole cd is great, tells a story of an underground revolution staring a druggie named Nikki. It's called Operation: Mindcrime, really should listen to the whole cd in track order instead of just one's, but here's this one anyway)
Portishead - Glory Box
Portishead - Nobody Loves Me
Nirvana - Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle
Linkin' Park - Crawling
Iron Maiden - Children of the Damned
Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Lacuna Coil - Heaven's a Lie
Faithless - Mass Destruction
Evenescence - My Immortal
AFI - This Time Imperfect (hidden track on Sing the Sorrow, might have to get ...But Home is Nowhere to get this, which also comes with [Untitled] followed by the This Time Imperfect)
The Cure - Pictures of You
The Cure - Last Dance
Blind Guardian - Blood Tears
Nightwish - Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan
Bad Religion - Sorrow
Bad Religion - Destined For Nothing
Caribean Blue- Enya
There She Goes- Sixpence None the Richer
mega for-the-pwn
From the sounds of it I think you should check out pretty much any song off of Biomech's (or Devin Townsend's, they're basically the same thing) 'Ocean Machine'. Specifically you should check out either
'Life' - a wonderfully positive song that's guarrenteed to give you a bounce in your step as you walk along,
'B**tard 1/ Not One of my Better Days 2/ The Girl from Blue City' - what sounds to me like the most emotionally pained song on the album. Beautiful in sadness.
or....
'The Death of Music' - A minimalist-beat song with some wonderful vocals again sure to stir some emotions inside as Devin sings with a lot of passion.
And pretty much any other song on that album - it really is a masterpiece of melody that demands be listened to from start to finish. I spent an hour on a park bench in town listening to it and when it was finished it felt like I'd just undergone some kind of deep spiritual/emotional experience. But maybe that's just me
Something has to be said though for a guy who drives himself clinically schizophrenic from making music in his basement, then continues to do it. And that thing is...Devin, you rule!
The album also starts off with a wonderful excerpt from a poem by someone I don't know :
'O earth, what changes hast thou seen!
There where the long street roars, hath been
The stillness of the central sea.
The hills are shadows, and they flow
From form to form, and nothing stands;
Like clouds they shape themselves and go.'

Israel Kamakawiwo`ole, or IZ, has made some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. I've sat down and listened to his music for hours, it's amazing. I believe he's dead now
Yes, he is dead. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" is great.
So awesome... So much power.
Ride Of The Valkyries - Wagner
Duh, it's gotta be mentioned.
Rebel Alliance Theme - John Williams
Really awesome. The off-beat orchesteral hits are really something.
Hey hey, my my - Neil Young
Generally a nice song.
Needle and the damage done - Neil Young
A song about Neil Young's friends that had died to drug addictions.
After the gold rush - Neil Young
A song about nice things.

Just repost something.
Chrono, perhaps you heard remakes of Kashmir? I know a band called Bond made an electrical orchestral version of it, and I'm sure there are others who have remixed the beat.
also:
Ennio Morricone - The Trio
Ennio Morricone - The Man With the Harmonica
Apocalyptica - Beyond Time
Annuzio Paulo Mantovani - Exodus Theme (sounds a little contrived, but I still like it)
Johann Pachlbel - Canon in D
Luis Enrique Bacalov - Il Grande Duello
Edvard Hagerup Grieg - Morning Mood
Russian Red Army Choir - Varshavianka
Edith Piaf - La Vie En Rose
Vera Lynn - White Cliffs of Dover
(have no idea how you'll react to the last two, I found its history as WWII resistance music though)
I don't know if you'd consider these emotional, but they're certainly powerful to me (more towards war mongering music):
Apocalyptica - Path
Giuseppe Verdi - Requiem Mass Dies Irae
E.S. Posthumus - Pompeii
E.S. Posthumus - Tikal
Elliot Goldenthal - Louis' Revenge (I find that it goes downhill nearing the end)
I understand you probably don't want religious music, but I found the following quite surprising, and more surprising is that the recommendation for it popped from out from the SomethingAwful forums (never would of thought I'd see any Christian music recommended there). I think he does do more secular music, but I haven't checked it out, so I can't vouch for his other music. But for the music I do know...
Sufjan Stevens - To Be Alone with You
Sufjan Stevens - The Transfiguration
Devin Townsend - Life.mp3
This is a full song download. Enjoy
Don Mclean - American Pie
Beethoven's 9th, specifically the 4th movement
Elliot Smith - Waltz #2 / Say Yes
Castle in the Sky OST - Chorus
