<div class="IPBDescription">just saw some... stupid</div> why are people all over this show's nuts? it's like the new trigun or something.. it's "cool" and might be good i suppose but it's hardly as 1337 **** as it's purported to be..
i don't even have to say much.. if you watch it with a serious attitude, you notice two horrible things really quickly... the style is pretentious and there's a permanent retina-hurting softshade glow effect... what the ****?
i'm not even willing to invest more time in this show... can't believe it's so popular <img src='http://forums.hostileintent.org/html/emoticons/sick.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

trigun is a little bit higher up
you should go check out ghost in the shell (the 2 movies) those are pretty good animes
hellsing has neither <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Or both of them?
I dont like the anime.
But i just love the Manga, very entertaining and awesome.
Cant stop reading it.
Trigun, from what I saw of it, nearly made me retch. Although the horrible English dubbing didn't exactly help matters.
The manga is jsut mind-blowing and its still being released at the moment at Volume 6 i think last.
The special thing with Alucard is that he is a hero who is just plain god almighty. You alreayd know he is soo gonna kick sum guy's **** but you want to see how he is gonna do the kicking.
But if we didn't debate, it'd be boring as hell!

I liked trigun and helsing. I think helsing ended waaaay too quickly, the ending felt too fast (kinda like blood where it ends and everyone goes "what? already? what the heck? isn't there more?" ) but it was still a fun lil anime.
like fighter says, I guess it's just down to taste :3
I like your brains..BRAINS!!!

yah, tat is basicaly the main problem with hellsing.
Cool animation, cool fights, no character development and a rushed plot.
this does hapen every so often when converting a manga to an anime (or a book to a movie for that matter).
trigun on the other hand is much, much better. 2 compleatly different animes. Trigun has the fights and what not, but it is backed up with good characters and a nice long plot.
hellsing makes great AMVs, but that is aabout it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> (or if you just wana watch alucard rip some one a new one).
honestly, Hellsing the anime and Hellsing the movie are about equal in my mind. Cheasy action flics that are cool if you check your mind at the door.
hellsing is like that now, because a lot of people absolutely worship it, and yet... wow... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
in my opinion, a perfect example of anime presentation is any given hiyao miyazaki film. they're presented in an honest way, and they don't need to employ overuse of CG, shading, emo style (OM F G wolf's rain.. *barf*), or fanservice in order to deliver content...
and perhaps MOST IMPORTANTLY for an anime film, they are NOT PRETENTIOUS.
ANYBODY can see through pretentious anime.. anybody with a goddamn brain.. it's like "figuring out" that britney spears doesn't sing well... just give it a little thought..
I just got recieved my copy of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind out here from my wife. I had seen it before, but granted it was the last american dub they did and it was horribly butchered to the point of almost unrecognition.
But seeing that movie in its full form, with all the story that I had missed, literally choked me up almost the whole movie.
That movie is a masterpiece, you see things in it that influenced video games and anime for many years after it was made. It was made in 1984, over 20 years ago. But it shines still, with more emotion than any anime thats come out in a long time.
Sorry bout that: Zig had to mention Miyazaki.
If you want a recommendation or something just ask, Zig.
But then again, who am I talking to, your the guy who wanted to watch Grenadier: Hohemi No Senshi. Good god. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
but that is besides the point, miyazaki is a compleatly different style of anime, and is not what alot of people like (remember, anime, just like movies has numerous genres.
I said it before and I will say it again, I didn't like Hellsing THAT much, but It was enjoyable (and yes, I watched a sub of it). I didn't think it was pretencious, I did think it expected you to know a little to much (a problem with translating from Manga to Anime). but I didn't see any thing pretentious about it (aside from it's fans, but that is true about most fans <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->).
I fail to see any 'over use' of CG (note, if you look at modern Miyazaki films you will see alot more CG, you are comparing animes that are around 20 years old now to modern ones). There is no EMO crap. Possibly Goth, but what do you expect from a series about friken Vampires.
Again, I am waiting to get my hands on a copy of the Manga b/c the plot that WAS in Hellsing looked like it could be realy cool.
As for Trigun, yes it was over hyped, but so are alot of things, that is no reason to like it any less. Personaly trigun is still one of my favorite animes. I always like Nadesico more, and now GitS:SAC 1&2 are taking the top of my rankings.
However, as every one has said.
it is all personaly preferance. I will just defend Hellsing as not being that bad (for what it is)
"wonderful days" which is a korean animation was totally ruined in translation to english. It was renamed "blue skies", half the frigging film was cut out and the plot changed to make pretty much no sense o.O
Miyazaki can't do wrong as far as I'm concerned. From Porco Rosso to Howl's moving castle to laputa, it's all good; then again I'm a sucker for this fairytale epic stuff :3
I don't really see any problem with trigun. As with hellsing or anything else I think anyone who listens to hype is always bound to be dissapointed <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I totally can't see what's pretentious about hellsing though unless you're commenting on it attempting to be stylish. I think it carries that off nicely personally ^^
I find most anime insultingly seems to be made with a view that the audience has an IQ above that of a cheese grater. Compared to the deep, philosophical movies from the west like 'dumb and dumber' I can see why people might find it degrading... really... no sarcasm at all <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Half the fun of watching this stuff really is the "what the heck is going on?" factor that permeates most of the films ^^
lmfao.
I liked Hellsing. Still do, but not on a overboard fangirl level. The anime was fine, started off good...but then goes off..then incognito..*shudder*
all I have to say is the manga is better. original, and full on fun stuff. Not saying it's an instant like, but yeah.

out a curiosity:
does the Anime folow some sorta plot loop from the Manga?

No, it just goes off completely. It starts right after the valentine bros' attack. then goes into some crap...and..new "master undead" baddie.
I liked Trigun a lot.
I also read a preview of the Hellsing manga in some magazine, the manga was what made me try and watch the show... The preview of the manga definentley looked sweet (it was like, 10/20 pages of a random spot in the manga) but the anime just didn't do it for me.
Totally unrelated, FMA is a neat show I just started getting into (and yet have up to episode 51 o.o) that's pretty cool.
I'm going to start watching naruto soon... only ever seen the first ep ^^;
Ooh! that reminds me, I still have to watch most of bleach too :o

Naruto's okay... It starts off really strong and keeps going for a while, but I stopped watching at about episode 100 where it really seemed to start to drag on...
I also watch Bleach, the latest episode shows some spectacular improvement in terms of animation quality O:

I didn't like the first Naruto episode, but I rarely like the first episode of anything. I agree that the first storyline - episodes 3-18, I think - is easily the best. After that, it dragged its heels a bit.
There seem to be a fair few "filler" episodes, too. I wouldn't watch the second episode again. ):
....
"because we stand like THIS," *leans back and gives a stupid looking grin from behind his sunglasses* "..that means we're COOL."
"because we talk like THIS," *delivers his monologue without such as a hint of emotion* "... that means we're COOL."
"because we point our guns like THIS," *whips out his 14" penls pistol with a flourish and points it so that the muzzle's dark opening occupies 60% of the camera view* "... that means we're COOL."

i was talking about modern anime in general.. there are a lot of examples but i CBA to find one when i was talking about modern anime in general in the first place.

either
1) you didn't read properly what i'd typed, or
2) you're trying to tell me that there ISN'T ANY EMO CRAP IN WOLF'S RAIN...?? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
