Lerks And 3.1

<div class="IPBDescription">Just browsing Mantis...</div> I was browsing Mantis for fun, and lookie what I came across...

Bug #0000522
Summary: lerks cannot fly backwards. this was added as a feature earlier but seems to have reverted, as did some other lerk flight attributes which have since been fixed.

tankefugl: 3.1 SVN revision 28:
Lerk can now fly backwards. Press backwards and tap jump to flap back from the way you are looking. Hold down to glide as before.

Does this mean that in 3.1 Lerks will be able to fly backwards like in the old days, except better?

Finally! Being able to spore and fly rapidly backwards out of that corridor at the same time once again!

Not to mention it's one of the few 3.1 notes out there, since obviously the 3.1 has to mean the next version.

Damn. That should've been private. Oh well, whether you're in favor or against this, now is not yet the time to discuss it; we have so far not even sanity checked these items sufficiently. Anything can change at this point.

I think if you added backwards lerk flight, they'd be even more the most agile unit.

Er, sorry if I spilled the beans on something. I was wondering why that wasn't private too for a moment...

If you want, just delete this and I'll forget I ever saw it?

hard part is having everyone who read it to have them forget D:

Well, he said no discussy...so lets change this topic to an "I love lerk teeth. They are so much cleaner then skulks, and require less cleaning!

Well people will probably discuss it unless you lock :-p
  • Blue_MaryBlue_Mary Join Date: 2004-08-26 Member: 30921Members
Well, mabye we can still discuss about people discussing it while not discussing it ourselves?

I feel like I did something wrong now...

Lerks have less teeth so it's easier to keep them clean. :o

Now the thread is going to get locked due to spam instead of in an effort to alter everyone's memory.

Edit: removed previous comments. Do gorges have teeth?

This is the first time a request of mine is being honored. I'd tell you all not to be so stuck up if I didn't enjoy the feeling so immensely <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I don't want to be yelled at by an admin for posting some "NS Food for Thought", so of course I honor your code of silence, while others have apparently honored it too and turned it into a fun type thing.

Wait, what am I talking about?

Fade teeth are even better! Then never get bits of muscle and flesh stuck in them!

Actually, I'm not asking you to keep your mouth shut - no point in that. I'd just like to keep everyone from crying "unbalanced" and / or "pointless" until more time has passed.

It sounds like they want to give the Lerk the ability to attack in a different direction from where he's flying. I definitely approve of this, as this allows a Lerk to engage in melee combat while maintaining his flight speed. They can also circle around above the action raining down spores and umbra.

I personally would give 3 of my left toes to be in a game with backwards lerk flight. A more versitile version of the new lerk flight models has been a dream of mine for a while. Backwards flight is pretty hard to master, I really doubt it would make much of a difference except at the high skill levels, which IMHO needed the slightest bit of a boost anyways.

Oh you have NO idea whatsoever how hard it is to fly backwards .. believe me <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    It's mighty fun, though.

Is it like driving a car backwards?

    Reverse stearing!

Well, yeah. But it's a car that moves up and down too, and you can't really look back to see which wall you're backing into.

And the car makes a flapping noise.

Mmmm...I can just imagine lerking in ns_metal MS or ns_hera Landing Pad. This is going to be fun.

    Excellent. ::Monty Burns finger-tapping.::
The sooner Lerks can fly in more than one horizontal direction, the better our chances of having Lerk spikes back..

At any rate, Lerks might actually be able to flap around and spore now instead of acting like flying Skulks.

Wow, that was well said. I always call lerks flying skulks.
  • MrGunnerMrGunner Join Date: 2003-01-03 Member: 11757Members, Constellation
I still think it is a pointless addition to lerks, but I guess we'll see...

  • MavericMaveric Join Date: 2002-08-07 Member: 1101Members
now make strafing bank the lerk left/right along with the view, and you have a winner.

what about onos teeth? i mean. you really don't get to see those all that much. maybe when you're being devoured...but even then, it's the stomach acid that does most of the damage. X_x
