im guessing if they want to stay competitive, they would update the game to those standards. i know when counter-strike condition zero comes out, the hl engine will be suped a little. i hope ns takes advantage of this. the models would look godly, but then they already are <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->.

They added fog to Half-Life in the patch with DMC. However, it currently only works on OpenGL. Maybe it will be fixed in later patches? Some mist in NS would be a nice touch on some steamy garbage hauler floating in space.

I would think HL2 is a very long time away. TF2 has been ripped up by tons and tons of rumours and alot of ppl think it was stoped altogether, just no one has botherd to have read official word of what they are and were doing with it and you might relise why it has taken so long.

Anyway i think TF2 is set so you can easily port a multiplayer mod from HL onto it.

LOL HL2... heheheh you know that they released the info on HL 2 2 years ago, and they said they would only start working on HL 2 AFTER TFC2 came out. heheh and TFC2 has been pushed back time after time, I think they are quite happy making money off of CS and other HL mods on their 4 year old paid-in-full fo engine, why would they develop something else! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I was just adding that to the discussion. Honestly I don't even play Team Fortress. The dev team does seem determined, though. I would think most companies would have scrapped the game completely by now.

Since the last news post on the OFFICIAL site is almost 2 years old, I think it's safe to assume TF2 has been thoroughly vaporized.

Fog in NS would be awesome.

fog... isn't there already something along those lines on hera?
  • DanDaManDanDaMan Join Date: 2002-03-19 Member: 335Members
well if you simply take a look at valves one previous product we can make some conclusions. HL was about 1 year late and it was an awesome game. Therefore if TF2 is 4 years late, it must blow the socks of everything else in the industry. Please don't try to refute my logic it's all I'm hanging onto these days.

Yes, there is a kind of fog-like effect in NS in a couple places, but its a fake fog. Just a couple sprites strategically placed.
I must say though, they did a darn good job at making fake fog.

Half-Life II? UGH! It better be VERY good. Better graphics and special elements, gameplay, suypport, blah, blah, blah. I hate the sound of it...Half-Life 2. Half-Life is just way too old to come out with a sequel so far past it. They should just move on. Anotehr FPS would be nice, but not in the Half-Life universe. Then again...I think it could turn out very good, if it had what I mentioned. They are just taking...way too long...

I hope HL2 can pull it off twice! it'll have to have another "Ground breaking engine!" photo realistic graphics, awesome guns, bigger smarter enemies, and More interaction with the NPCs

I have one word for this.......... "vaporware"

    1) It's TF2, not TFC2

    2) Valve have been very quiet about TF2 for the past couple of years. If it were any other company, I'd assume it had been canned. However, Valve are one of the more independent development companies out there, and as such have the luxury of not being dictated to by publishers. They don't have the same sort of external pressures that other companies, dependent on publisher milestones, do. Hence, I suspect TF2 *is* still being worked on, it's just that Valve have learnt their lesson about hyping too early (after the HL hype began but then had to be postponed for a year while the game was redesigned). When TF2 is near release, then we'll hear about it again.

Incidentally, PG Gamer UK recently ran an article about some ATI graphics people who claim to have seen recent builds of the all-new TF2 engine. Apparently TF2 has changed direction somewhat, and is no longer a semi-realistic military shooter (no doubt the success of CS and the market saturation of this type of game forced their hand). Who knows whether there's any truth in this.

    3) As far as I'm aware, Valve has *never* publicly stated that HL2 is being worked on at all. Of course, it's fair to assume that it is, but just bear in mind that it has never officially been announced, so you can't really comment on the matter with any degree of credibility.

Then I'd very much like to see you link me to a press release or credible interview where Valve explicitly acknowledge that they are working on HL2. I'd be very surprised if you can.

I too have seen many oblique references to it, or claims from non-Valve companies that they have knowledge about it, but that's not exactly official, now is it?

Give me a press release, otherwise I remain convinced it has yet to be officially announced. As you quote yourself: "Of course, we all assume that Half-Life 2 is in development". "Assume" being the operative word.

Ack, sorry for the double-post, forum error.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->i can only assume TF2 is based on the HL2 engine..

The only TF2 screenshots online are all old. They use the current HL engine. They are obsolete.

No-one outside Valve and their affiliates has seen what the new TF2 looks like - it uses an all-new engine (they hired engine tech peeps from Lithtech to work on it), and no screenshots of it have yet been released on the net.

Last time i heard about TF2 there was some rumours that they where in the proces of changing engine to the lithtech engine.

But that was like a year ago or something.

Sorry to nitpick, but it is NOT TFC 2, it's just TF2, since if it was Team Fortress Classic 2, it would be a remake of TFC, while TF2 is realistic (apparently).

so many people are confusing TF2 and HL2 - the former will be multiplayer and the latter will be the singleplayer ( + multiplayer ) sequel to Half-Life.

There have been many references recently attributable to Valve team members that TF2 is still alive and being worked on as we speak. However considering it's several years late, we've got a real chance of a "daikatana" situation coming.

HL2 I don't believe has ever been officially announced though considering the success of HL it's got to be considered as a cast iron certainty.
