what's funny is the psuedo·editorial comment alluding to the fact that the characters in the game sometimes wield "enormous swords," as though that had some bearing on what happened.

Yes I find that disturbing. As if to say that the game has something to do with the way these people are acting. "The game contains references to violence, thus it must MAKE them into killers..." Sure buddy, if you started playing at age 3 and didn't stop for 20 years maybe, but anyone who has been raised decently can interpret right from wrong.

Being mentally unstable is the same at any age I think. This man was not firmly grounded in reality if he thinks an online weapon is worth a human life.

What a moron. He lives in a poor country and he was going to get $870, but he still stabbed his friend because of it?

Also, it's funny that communists think that MMORPG items should be private property, therefore you could buy or sell them with no problem, but capitalists here at home think that the items should be the property of corporations who run the games.

i hate games like that.. like project entropia.. i installed it.. and then i get in there and find out you have to pay real money for items in the game... its flipping rediculous how much these people pay for a suit of armor and stuff...

Blizzard and SOE have both blocked Ebay sales of game items. Blizzard explicitly states that they retain ownership of all virtual objects--I *think* SOE does the same, but since I haven't played one of their games in a while I can't confirm that.

In other news today,World of Warcraft fans mourned the death of Timmy,13 who was shot at by a 31-year old man with an old-looking rifle and then attacked by a man in a bear suit, who promptly ate him. When arrested, the man shouted "HE WAS HORDE!" as his allibi.
He is expected to receive a life sentence. The bear man also.

Also,Counter-Strike fans mourn the loss of uber-1337 gamer 'Farrow',16,who was shot by a sniper rifle all because the man responsible,24,said "He was camping and hacking with a stupid Scout! USE AWP DAMMIT!". No further comments have been issued about the game nor this incident.

Finally,Natural Selection gamers have been ordered to remove all NS-related programs, after it was found that a mass murder of an alien convection of 20 people, all dressed as skulks in the game,by 10 65-year old marines who alleged to have shouted "Grenade spam them boys",followed by throwing frag grenades into the small crowd.

Tomorrow's news; TV comes to life and influences people. Oh hang on......

Well I found that quote more to do with explaining to some people that the game involves swords, which ties in with the story of a guy killing someone over a sword in a game.

Because not everyone knows the details of MMORPGs.
