world as you please. It has everything you'd expect from an actual RPG
-- huge towns, more than 20 dungeons, more than 15 bosses. You can
have up to three members in your party, and while you don't directly
control them, you can assign them commands. The single-player mode
will have cutscenes, dialogue, an in-depth story, character
development, etc., etc. Some people will have to join you for
missions, but when you just want to explore and build levels, you can
apparently select anyone to go with you. By the end of the game,
you'll end up exploring three planets. It starts on the hume world,
Parum, which gets attacked by weird aliens. You visit Neudaiz, a water
world of "newman people," and Motwob, the planet of the beast people -
desert planet. THe main character's name is Ethan Waber. He decides to
fight because his sister gets attacked. Gameplay remains relatively
similar to PSO, but there will be more puzzles and stuff in dungeons
-- and not just flipping switches.
Online:
No longer jobs, just character races. Each of the four races has its
own strengths, but you can develop them as you see fit. For example,
casts are the best with guns, but that doesn't mean you can't build up
their other characteristics and make them good magicians. Character
customization is apparently incredibly improved. You can change colors
of lips, eyebrows, eyes, hair, clothes, shoes, you can mold faces and
bodies, create large or small breasts, make them firm or jiggly.
That's an example the lead artist gives. HDD is NOT supported, because
Sony pulled the support. It looks substantially better on the PC, and
EGM recommends that version. Voice chat, regardless, has not been
confirmed, for either platform.
Combat remains relatively similar to PSO, but there are differences,
There are six-hit combo strings now, but you insert custom technique
attacks into the combos to change them up. Strafing has been adding,
and button-timing is supposed to be quick, for combat. Like John said,
the number of party members is much higher, but Sega hasn't revealed
how many it will be yet. Characters can dual wield different weapons
now, so a gunner can have a short range gun and a long-range one
equipped at the same time. Mags are gone, robot partners are in.
Downloadable content will be more frequent and more substantial.
One last thing I forgot, vehicles are included."

EEE!!! XD
edit: I'm probably going to get the PC version with what's said here, but it depends on the PC spec and stuff I guess
PSO has one of the best battle systems of a real-time RPG to date. I just... it felt so fluid and perfect.
No more mags? I hope these partners are as fun to raise.
I'm getting very excited already.
Yeah, I loved the combat system and especially the mega-bosses with their attack patterns :3
have 6-swing combos makes me giddy, especially if they're speeding them up and throwing in custom technique links XD
Kinda curious how vehicles will fit into it though o.O
The characters remind me of Sega's "Nights" games. I loved those games.
Although bullethead said it best
Essentially the game comes in two parts; the lobby and the game.
The 'lobby' is a selection of ships and environments you can get together with friends in (some let you play chu chu football together in them ^^ ) then once you get a team together you all wander over to the console and make a 'game'. The game is the bit you play seriously with mega bosses, the weapons and the fighting... oh and the missions :3
The 'standard' game involves making it through the environment defeating the monsters and bosses until you reach the final boss.
Generally you try to complete it on the hardest difficulty and try to find the best equipment you can ^^
There's other types though including PvP tournaments, 'challenge mode' (which rocks and gives some of the best items if you can do it with an S rank... you need good teamwork though :s ) and others.
The game however, is predominantly based around PvE and the grand old time of getting together with friends, kicking the living heck out of legions of badguys, dodging traps and taking down absolutely mind-blowing large and cool mega-baddies then rummaging through the treasure that appears when they go bewm :D
The combat the game offers simply can't really be described to someone who's not played it as it's fairly unique and if you're real good at it you can almost master the art of almost never getting hit (though it's damnable hard on the higher difficulties and most players don't realise how well you can use the real-time collisions to avoid getting smacked down :p ).
That's PSO.... PSU however? It can only get better :3
edit: gah... my description makes it sound like smash TV or something :s
Just imagine an RPG with a really frigging good combat system and amazing dungeons. You have the standard town you jump back and forth too as well for resupplying on stuff or banking things (if you die you lose all the money you're carrying o.O )
I might get into it, depending whether it's just a buy once thing or the old hunter license subscription thing (not fond of subscriptions, but that's just me)

Hope I can still make my daft FOnewm.

Also, here's something I didn't know: PSO Blue Burst is being released outside of Japan!
http://www.sega.com/games/game_temp.php?game=psobb
Worth buying for one new level and a few new items? I don't know!
Though I wanted to get one for dragonball z budokai 3... now I have another game ^^
Also, please tell me that they're going to restrict the boob size system to DD or smaller.
I can't even imagine how that'd work XD
The bosses will have to be insane to hold out against those kind of numbers... I half wonder if they'll still be solo-able :o
seriously though i need to get this game.
And not redundant?
Seriously, the only downfall of PSO was the battle system, though that applies to most RPGs. It was fun, but then it was just about finding better looking weapons. Hopefully they've done something to the battle system.
Imagine Diablo II with polygons, spaceship, guns, and huge pokemon.
That said, the graphics looks really dated.
You can get huge rifles, giant laser swords, scythes and kill robots, dragons and ancient gods of war ^^
I guess the theory is the same as diablo II with the whole 'town' and 'dungeon' and 'phat lewt' aspects of it but the experience of playing it is entirely different :p
And Zig; it tells you in the thingy I quoted that they've speeded up combat XD
Liku, compared to the likes of diablo and co the combat was far from redundant :p
I'll admit it was only a good 'base' for a greater idea which it sounds like they're finally taking up in PSU but even in it's original barebores form in PSO it outstripped the usual combat in other RPGs. Then again I did make use of it to such extremes that I was a melee fonewearl; I could only survive 1 hit but it was never a problem because the badguys couldn't catch me as I ducked under and through their attacks. Nothing more satisfying that getting a massive group of badguys herded, having it all go wrong so there's nowhere left to go but through them and managing to run through the whole lot being barely missed by their scything arms :D
I need to play legend of dragoon methinks just to see what it's like ^^
Anyone ever played PSO in 50Hz and 60Hz? It's almost like a different game :o
After 60, 50 feels like you're playing in treacle or something :s
and the story itself is really good, i get shivers everytime i play the damn thing. generally feels more epic and also progresses a bit faster then FF7 despite being around the same total hours of gameplay.
I Highly recommend the game. highly.
and i can't wait for phantasy star now! i love these kinds of games! glee!
- You can now aim your guns in first person if you want (though you can't move while doing it :p )
- Vehicles will not just be things like everyone having individual hover bikes but there will also be big multi-position vehicles like in halo; the vehicles will depend on the missions you're doing usually.
- The maximum normal hit combo as mentioned is now 6 instead of the old 3 HOWEVER you can essentially break the limit using the technique attacks mentioned in the earlier posts :o
- There's now a sidestep move that allows you to step-aside from enemies attacks making it easier to manouver around the enemy and dodge. Rather like the zelda side-step jump thingy in the 3D games :3
- As mentioned before but I'll repeat it anyways the combat speed has definitely been upped with your character flitting about with their blades and the timing of the button presses being considerably faster than before.
- I saw some more screenies including some wide-open areas and it looks utterly fabby :3
edit: oops forgot to mention; it'll still have randomly generated dungeon layouts too :D
PC version Online? pay to play? Cause I am so no up to date with games such as PSU.
If not p2p, then hello 'new game' to look forward to!
It was still boring. I mean, if there's a horde of enemies it's the same thing over and over... just more than usual.
Why can a game have a Zelda combat system, or something of the sort.
