Heh. I thought this was humorous:
<a href='http://www.cnn.com/2005/HEALTH/03/16/obesity.eu.ap/index.html' target='_blank'>Europeans challenging U.S. in size</a>
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) -- At least seven European countries now challenge the United States in size -- at least around the waistline.
In a group of nations from Greece to Germany, the proportion of overweight or obese men is higher than in the United States, experts said Tuesday in a major analysis of expanding girth on the European continent.
"The time when obesity was thought to be a problem on the other side of the Atlantic has gone by," said Mars Di Bartolomeo, Luxembourg's Minister of Health.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Hooray, we are now united as one global community of fatties. We should all celebrate by jumping in the air twice and then breathing heavily from exhaustion!

It's only the men. *sigh of relief*
More seriously, I'd like to know whether the countries mentioned have a greater market for American style foods.
Many greek people are overweight but very healthy thanks to olive oil.
Mmm, olive oil...

American style foods?
Cmon, man. Just because it gets you fat it doesn't make it "American style."
That's just like say that all genocide is "German style."
But, because it is "American style," it is by nature fattening. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Okay, so that's not true. However, It would be interesting to see how their diets are changing in Europe, or if the changes are even substantial, even though it's a 75% chance that the size increase is at least partially due to McDonald's and others making more money abroad.

The content of the meals isn't all that contributes to the calorie count the average American consumes per meal. Not counting ethnicity-specific feasts to celebrate holidays or gatherings with friends & family, I can't think of any other country so known for having oversized meal portions.
American-style? Like a <u>hamburg</u>er?
<span style='font-size:0pt;line-height:100%'>Actually the original "hamburger" that American sailors brought back to America with them was much more red meat, not served on a bun, and had different "condiments". If you ignore McDonald's attempts to convince us all that a slab of fat is really meat, the modern hamburger is healthy compared to the old style one.</span>
