Cheaters Are Back ...

<div class="IPBDescription">massive increase on my servers</div> It looks like there's a new “easy to use” hook out for Natural Selection. In the last 10 days I banned 7 people because of obvious use of aimbot. Comparing to only 12 banned cheaters since the server is up (1+ year) I would say that’s high increase of cheating.

Any admin sharing the same experience? Any information about a possible new hook for Natural Selection?

    He's asking you people saw an increase, not who banned who. Just watch out that you don't make this become a witch-hunt. It's forbidden.

    As for the cheaters, I haven't seen more than usual (that means pretty rarely).

    I agee. These "aimbotters" are probably just too high-skilled for your taste.

    Can you give any names of the players you've banned, people might know them.

    That is exactly what I am trying to combat here. If he has teppla banned for hacks I can pretty much guarentee he is banning people for having skills, not nessicarly for hacking. I don't like witchhunts any more then anyone else, that is why I try to expose them if they start popping up.

    I'm not saying that there aren't more hackers around, it stands to reason that 3.0 would attract more of that sort of thing, but I'm just saying don't get all paranoid and raze the terror alert to red, just because one server banned a few more people for hacking then usual.

    I have only had two: One speed hacker and an aimbotter. It was the same damn guy who I had to ban in beta 5. I just forgot to carry over my ban list.

    Teppla = Overrated. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I agree to vegeta, at least on scylla's combat server I own everything and am regularly called cheater by some players, but I wasn't banned yet because the admins there really know their work, afaik.

    Scylla, maybe you can upload some demos of the suspected guys!?
  • ScyllaScylla Join Date: 2003-08-05 Member: 18942Members
    I don't ban anyone based on suspicions only on evidences.

    The last case was easy as he wasn’t able to handle a jetpack but hits and tracks easily every target. Nice demo with target locking and switching:
    <a href='http://weasels.vegeta.at/files/demos/anders1.zip' target='_blank'>http://weasels.vegeta.at/files/demos/anders1.zip</a>

    There some good players out there playing on my server and they easily own me and most others and they won’t get banned. If they obey the rules - all is fine.

    Most times it’s quite easy to discern between skilled aiming and an aimbot. Sometimes it’s more difficult. Once we had a player with moderate skills used only his aimbot in rare cases of critical or important situations like building a pg at a hive. I took the time to collect evidences and record it to demos, review it and because of possible prejudice of me it get double checked by another trusted person. But most cases are as clear as the upper demo.

    <!--QuoteBegin-RaVe+Mar 10 2005, 09:22 AM--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (RaVe @ Mar 10 2005, 09:22 AM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Maybe the hackers just <3 your server Scylla.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    I hope not. A pity I stopped the demo because afterwards I started my humiliation of the cheater by using the jedigrab plugin crushing him into the ground with high speed so he dies by falling damage. He quitted after a while (and 20 deaths) <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

    That’s a quite difficult topic and as I’m not a very skilled player so I never had that problem but I’m aware of it and many admins are not educated about cheats and scripts and how they work. Serious admins should educate themselves how scripts and cheats work. I think also most cases a skilled player gets banned it not because of cheating it’s only their “argument” for the ban. I think the real reason is that a skilled player may destroy the way they want to play the game. Its part of a bad mindset and if they were educated about the way cheats work they may would think twice about it.
    Sure if they pay the server they have the right to ban a skilled player but I think that’s very short sighted. A bad reputation distracts other players from joining your server.

    this is a german server. american players hardly play on german servers, therefore they are not likely to know the players who play or are accused of "hacking" there.

    that demo is pretty good, by the way. and yeah it was pretty obvious.

    The topic starter mention 'hook' as in "<b>buzZhooK</b>" Just a bit of advice. The best way to firstly identify wether or not a player is using buzz is by using a demo reader like Demofreak. It will show the line setinfo = "s4pige0n" in the demo. After that, It's up to your hack-detection skills.

    Very nicely said, and well defended from your corner.

    Now isnt it about time you got back to the actuall topic in hand and all quit being so defensive, repeating Xnumber of topics in the past?

    And if you want to reply to what I just wrote I dont care, im not listening, get BACK ON TOPIC.

    I too have noticed a sharp increase of hook usage since the latest release, however this increase is more than likely just the old idiots coming back to check it out rather than the alternatives.

    I just found something out, cryforme is in that pubclan [On|E], first ban on our page.

    No wonder he isn't nice to me.

    I'm hoping for a nice 70-80 degree weekend.

    EDIT: sorry I accidently put the word 'about' instead of 'out'.
