I Chased A Mugger

<div class="IPBDescription">Din't catch him tho :(</div> Was walking home from work this evening and some old man got mugged at a cash machine across the road from me, poor old fella got punched in the face a few times and had his glasses broke plus £20 nicked. I gave chase but the little bast'd had a good 100 yards start on me and ran down a road with an unlit park at the end so he got away unfortunatly.

Went back and called the police for the old fella, by this time some people had come out of their houses to see what the racket was all about. Bit annoyed that I didn't catch cos I really felt sorry for the old bloke, if he had run down another road that didn't lead into the park I blatently would have caught him as I was burning him up :/

Isn't it normally not wise to chase a mugger?

If the mugger punched a guy in the face, he probably didn't have a weapon. So chase away!

Or maybe it was faster to just do that, and then grab it while he was dazed. Pulling a gun isn't a very efficient way to steal someone's stuff. (It's very effective, but they get scared, and I bet the confusion would just waste so much more time.)

He also could have easily had a knife hidden away.

Muggers probably aren't terribly used to getting into 1 vs 1 fights, especially since he was running away as fast as he could. Mugger was fleeing, V-man was pursuing him, on the attack.

    Advantage? V-man.

Pity you didn't catch him. You need to learn how to run faster, boy.

Good that you're willing to do the right thing for a complete stranger. Also it was very smart of you to give up pursuit when you did.

Kudos for being a thoughtful, caring human being, there aren't enough of those left anymore.

Mugger is far too kind a word for the kind of scumbag who robs the elderly...and only for 20 of those funny Harry Potter bills you got over there…how sad.

Edit: I should mention I have no concept of how British money works other then what I have read in Harry Potter, for the sake of simplicity I expect no one to ruin my world of delusions. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Indeed, though really the guy got lucky. I knew a guy who was at a drive through ATM, he got pulled out of his truck and hit in the head w/ a bat. :/

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say that you should have stayed with the old fella and make sure he was alright. 20 Pounds is nothing compared to treating a concussion or a broken nose with first aid before an ambulance arrives.

On the other hand, it's much more glorious to chase down someone.

doesn't really have the capability to knock someone out with a single punch in the face.

I didn't find out it was £20 until I got back to the old guy :/

He just had too good a head start on me and knew where to run to ie the park. I'm no slouch when it comes to running, I run 3 times a week while training for the marines I woulda caugh up with him had he not gone into a large pitch black park.

Dont chase bad guys, too many unknowns for you,

He might have had a knife, he might have had friends he was running away too, he might be HIV + or have some other desease for you to get after u tackle him and fight with him, he might be a world class fighter and just not look it.

In the very least if he was bold enough to hit and old man in the face a few times he wouldnt give a second thought to at least try to re arange your face as well u tried to interfere with his escape.

Look after the injured civilian, 20 pounds or 2,000 for that matter isnt worth you potentially getting hurt. That only leaves you with money lost and 2 victims instead of 1.

Get a good description of the guy, and take note of which direction he runs off in for the police.

Not necessarily. Weapons escalate the situation (as well as the crime, therefore the punishment if caught and convicted). I heard a story of a guy who chased some teenagers away from breaking in to a house, and it was only after he pursued one of them that they pulled a knife (after which he backed off and the kid got away).

Not using a weapon if it isn't necessary is actually quite smart. There was no telling what the guy had on him or what backup he had. Chasing him was brave, maybe even admirable, but not wise. Especially with no idea of what you're going to do with him when you catch him up, or how you can take him down if he is in fact unarmed.

    GJ V-man...

its not stupid to take on muggers, the world is full of pussys.
how many muggers would carry on, if they knew that 99% of people would chase them and fight for each other. they wouldnt. muggers get away with it with **** attitudes like not giving chase.

you kick the living **** out of him. you teach him to gorw up get a job and stop sponging off society. and then you give him a few slaps for thinking he can hit an old guy.

    OR

you bring him down with a smooth punch or something and hold him there till the old bill arrives...

personally.. if i could catch my gf's attempted muggers... i would choose A. but i would be kicking them in the face. hard.

mug a guy? that shows you at least got balls you never know...
mug a old guy? thats pathetic. really low.
mug a female? then thats gonna get you treated the same as a murderer...

what kinda person can do that, try to put fear in people like that...
