There are two reasons you shouldn't go chasing after muggers. Here's the less important of them:

Like everyone said you don't know what you're getting into. Sure you can talk and wave your e-**** around here all you want - the reality is you can NEVER know what to expect in a man-to-man fight. You can know the details going in, you can plan out perfectly, but once the first punch is thrown, it devolves into survival. It's your or him. On the street there's no honor. If he has a weapon, he will likely use it. If he has friends, he'll use them. You may be a pretty good fighter, you may be in the military, but that doesn't make you invincible. But in the end, it's your life, do as you please.

Most importantly, you shouldn't go chasing him especially if the mugged person is injured or even slightly dazed. It's much more important to come to them and give them any first aid they need, pat them on the back, if they're a lady maybe give them a hug or something. Keep them from breaking down completely. Keep their head's clear until the cops get there to take questions, so they're mind isn't spongey and useless. Preserve dignity.

To hell with a few dollars. Mugger's aren't gonna get away with anymore than what you keep in a wallet and some credit cards that can be canceled. Maybe some pictures that meant something to the person, and that would be the biggest loss. It's not worth ignoring the immediate threat to the victim.

would you get charged in court if you beat the mugger up? or are u just supposed to pin/hold him down and wait for the police?

you kick the living **** out of him. you teach him to gorw up get a job and stop sponging off society. and then you give him a few slaps for thinking he can hit an old guy.

    OR

you bring him down with a smooth punch or something and hold him there till the old bill arrives...

personally.. if i could catch my gf's attempted muggers... i would choose A. but i would be kicking them in the face. hard.

mug a guy? that shows you at least got balls you never know...
mug a old guy? thats pathetic. really low.
mug a female? then thats gonna get you treated the same as a murderer...

what kinda person can do that, try to put fear in people like that...

    scum. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Moquiao I would strongly advise agaisnt doing that unless you want to risk getting possibly charged with assault/battery or worse as well not to mentioned opening yourself up to a lots of civil liability.

Also if you kick someone in the face/head repeatedly its first degree assault = class A felony = big prison time.

Kudos for the attempted chase. Even more kudos for returning to see if the old guy was alright.

It is far too rare these days to see anyone even care about someone else. Especially if they don't know them. Sadly that can be said about people who even do know you.

Good on you V-MAN, nice to see that there is some good left in this world.
    I probably would have done the same thing, if i wasn't such a slow runner <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

True, true. A few years ago a friend got into an arguement with too chavs (about 14 years old, we were both 18ish) while on a night out. Thinking he could handle them (being more than a half foot taller and obviously way stronger [gogo BMX skills]) I let him be. Next thing I know he's on the floor being kicked in the head and chest, already coughing up blood. Enough is enough I think and run over to the nearest one, coming up behind him.

I had almost all the advantages - age, height, weight, strength and a degree of supprise.

I came up behind him, grabbed his right shoulder with my left hand to spin him round while I brought my right arm up for a solid first punch to his face. He got there before me somehow and hit me square on the chin with his sovereign ring glad fist - knocked me out cold before I'd even got a punch in. Luckily after my pitiful display of machoism they decided my friend had had enough and left. I came round on the floor to see him laughing his **** off still spitting blood.

Not so true. Someone I know was using an atm when some scum forced them at knife point to remove as much money as they could in a single go, some £600.

Anyway, nice job VMAN, not enough people look out for each other these days.

True , I've heard from my mom that a woman got punched like hell in a movie theater lobby by a retarded boy, and it was crowded in there. PLUS he had a over-watcher but didn't step in until the "beat up" was over. That was just scary to hear.

Also they did a test here in sweden if any one would help someone being beaten outside in a crowded place in the middle of the day. It was a TV show and all fake, but it did look brutal. It was a guy beating a woman senseless, for a long time.
Not one singel person off at least 100 interfered or even shouted "stop".

Just to update I got a call off the police today while at work, they want me to go down and give a statement cos they arrested someone last night <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> so fingers crossed they got the right bloke.

Oh yeah someone asked me where I live a few posts back. I live in portsmouth, while in some areas of the city this sorta thing can be expected at night it's not really expected in area I live. You get the odd chav that might hurl some abuse but a battering of a old man at a cash point is a bit shocking.

We have a lot of CCTV cameras all over the city, there's even one on a huge poll less than 20 meters from where this happened so there's a possability it might have seen the bloke prior to the mugging.

they had something about new security measures and anti crime stuff on the history channel the other day.

The average New York City citizen gets caught on a video camera about 75 times a day.
The average Londoner gets caught on camera about 300.

I say good that you chased him. Too bad you didn't get him, though.

At leas with me, I don't care much for my own skin. I won't be stupid, but if someone just mugged an old man, I'd chase them down, beat them to a pulp, take back the money then rip all their clothes off while their unconscious, and somehow find a way to write "I mugged an old man" all over his chest/back for everyone to see. He may not survive the rest of the day XD

Thats why you don't hear of muggings in Texas much. You never know who carries a gun.

That, and you just don't mess with Texas (and Texans). Ever.

Yeah they call it murder instead since if you shoot someone dead then rob them it's not really a mugging is it.....

btw arn't texans just a bunch of land stealing farmers historically speeking that got their butts kicked by mexico when they tried to steal texas, then went crying to the US who then helped them steal texas along with new mexico and arizona.

You have no style at all. You must toss him a gun, daring him to shoot at you. When he does, you CATCH ALL THE BULLETS WITH YOUR TEETH! Then you SPIT them at him, and the force of the impact will be so great that he EXPLODERATES ALL OVER THE PLACES! Then you REVERSE THE SPIN OF THE EARTH TO TURN BACK TIME, and then you DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN!

Man that'd be cool. Quaunaut, I salute you.
