<div class="IPBDescription">Alpha build now available to playtest</div> Hello hello hello, I have come here after my seclusion for the last few months to post an update about <a href='http://www.nuclearmonkeysoftware.com' target='_blank'>Narbacular Drop</a>. We've been working on it long and hard, and it's getting seriously close to finished.
Once again, we'd like it if anybody with some free time could help us playtest some more. We're just looking for comments on what puzzles are too easy or too hard, or suggestions on how to reduce the learning curve of the game.
If you're interested in helping us out, please download the alpha build from <a href='http://www.nuclearmonkeysoftware.com/downloads/narbacular_drop_alpha.zip' target='_blank'>here</a>.
There are some known bugs and crash issues, so don't expect a perfect product, but we think it's pretty damn fun.
Requires DirectX 9.0c to play.

i liked the concept... i think i'll go try out this version
Took me a while to figure out just how to use the portals and realize that I had control of two of them
Edit: Got it.. just got a little turned around.. Damn doors closing behind me.
Fun for what I can play. Music might need a little variety though.
Edit: Also lava turtles don't catch you if you aren't running on to them. I pulled up short and landed in the lava and not on the head.
I restarted and now it works. Now I am stuck in the Fire with Fire and I have no clue what to do atm
And it seems the boxes speed up if you put one gate on the ground then the other on the ground under the box, it just bouces back and fourth getting higher and higher
By design, people seemed to have more fun that way.
And general note to everyone. "Fire with Fire" is the last and incomplete level. If you get there, you've won the game in it's current state. For others.... if you get to the top of "Ledge Ladder" and the game crashes, consider it a win, because the next level is fire with fire and it crashes on some systems.
On the first level, the lower block kept disappearing when I tried to push it through the portal (as in, it was no longer in the map). After a few times restarting it finally worked. The next few times it got sucked into the area where I dropped down from, right against the wall, so I couldn't push it through another portal.
On the second level, everything went well. The turtles can be a little difficult to get on if you are rushing through, but it isn't that hard.
On the third level, I noticed a couple of things. First, there are three boulders to get past to get to the lava room. When you go back to get boulders for the switches, there are only two (the first one disappears). Also, (this is a gameplay issue, not a bug), the first time through, it is easy to have one of the boulders follow you through a portal and lose it before you know what you are trying to do. If you had the third boulder to work with it wouldn't be a problem though.
The fourth level took some time to figure out, but I didn't see any problems with it. Same with the fifth level. I realized that the fifth level forces you to use the portals to look ahead and see what is happening, rather than just using them to move around.
I was about to post about the game crashing when I got to the top of the fifth level, but then I previewed my post and saw your post, so I guess I won the game.
In Boulder Dash, I used a door to move the boulder. It hit the monster, but had no effect, and so I ran down the hallway. Near the bend in teh hallway I just fell through the floor... Strange.
it doesnt seem to like alt+tabbing while not in windowed mode.
I cant seem to set the controls, and it doesnt support 1600x1200 <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
but the game is fun
you can see thing entirely based on their render order.
Maybe I'm missing something. BTW I pushed the block into that square pit one time and got stuck. You can't portal out because the walls don't allow it.
EDIT: OK I guess I was retarded. I played around a bit more and figured it out. I was playing in third person also and I <3 first person in this game.
DOuble EDIT: Err ok I found that second block once, died, now I have no clue where it went...
EDIT(3x): After getting to the last level. I used myself and the turtle to press the switches. Now the turtle is stuck in the pit.
In boulder dash you can hide in the middle of a portal without getting hit, bugg or meant?
I found the console and typed wireframe, I can see moving objects behind FwF door <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Also on the first level the creature froze after a cpuple restarts, so I managed to use him as button pusher. Meaning I could complete it really fast, 1 box, creature and myself.
edit: nevermind.. wow. This game is really cool. I just keep getting annoyed by that crate and the lava pit in "Polishing Up." The crate keeps disappearing for me. ^^;

Just take the portals and lay one on the ground where a button is. Then lay the other one on the ground where the box is. When the box appears in the portal you placed at a button, quickly move your other portal over a button too. Now just stand on a button yourself. Voila!
What are you talking about? When I got to the last level, I didn't see any switches or turtles anywhere.

The last level doesn't have boulders, buttons, or turtles.
Although trapping the turtle on a button in boulder dash is a somewhat common mistake. And just as a hint, we only setup the rules of the world, and I know for a fact that there are 2 ways to get across the lava in boulder dash without the turtle.
As soon as you said that, one way became very obvious to me. I can't think of a second way to do it.
Also, just messing around, I tried dropping in to one of those button pits with both boulders inside of it (I don't know why I thought boulder dash had 3 boulders earlier). The first time, the boulders just pushed me back out. They managed to crush me on the second try. As I typed this, it occurred to me that it might be possible to ride a boulder across the lava. I don't feel like spending an hour right now trying to find out, though.
REALLY great game, I played it in third person out of body first but found I much more liked first person. The way the portals are interconnected... as in graphically... was just astounding to me. Original concept, great gameplay, powah of the portals!
Very much enjoyed it and I hope you finish sometime in the near future.
