I love KOTOR2...I wouldn't stop playing, but once every 3 or 4 quicksaves it locks up and I have to reboot, corrupting the quicksave, so I have to go back at least 20 mins to the last autosave.

Picked up KOTOR2 today.

Loving it.

Its also quite mysterious in the beginning about WTH you're doing and why/how.

Can't wait to get my lightsaber...

And does Kreia remind anyone else of Bea Arthur?

Do not level up your main character beyond level 3 or 4 in the beginning!
You need the levels later when you become a Jedi.
(my faforite is Scout, up to level 4, for his may skills + you gain Implant level 2 automatically. So just one more feats and you have those powerfull level 3 implants!)

Take a few force powers and max them up! "Push" at level 3 is killer (forcewave).

Take a high starting charisma for more options in dialogues.
Also, forces are harder to resist for enemies. (I think so)

No attribute above 14 when building a character. Its too costly.

Wisdom is important! More forcepower!

high starting Intelligence might be usefull for more skills.

Before you are jedi: USE YOUR GRANADES!

Stick with a few important skills and spend all your points on them. For ther rest you have party members.
Most important are persuasion (esecially for lightside. You cannot simply forcepersuade yourself through the game without getting darkside points for it...), computer and repair. (repair you need at level 17 ASAP, for one of your party members. Trust me, its worth it, if just for the fun you will have. Just believe me )

You don't have to actually level it up that way thoug, that would be impossible anyway.
There are items that boost the skills. I think the total bonus via items you can get repairs is about 7 or so. I don't know for sure right now.
So just keep leveling.

Awareness: is not important since partymembers bring it to bear. Stealt is not important (unless you want to play it spliter cell style)
Security: unimportant since you can bash everything without consequences.
In the few cases you need it, you have your astrodroid...
Demolitions: ... well, don't waste points on it.
Treat injury: Maybe a few spare points are nice. Later in game, you have healing forces and medpacks that give enough HP even with low skill.

When you decide your force alignment (dark or light) stick with it! Do play accordingly, and choose your forcepowers accordingly. (no darkside force for lightside jedi...) There are exceptions which Ii note further below.
When you max it out in either way, you gain dark/lightside mastery, which gives some nice bonuses.

Lightside is easier because more usefull items (lightside only.)

Either way, go to kashyyk first. You find a nice party member and a nice light side item. You know when you find it!

Don't waste feats on lightsaber combat...

GO TO YAVIN SPACE STATION AFTER EVERY STARMAP YOU UNCOVERED.
Eventually you can buy some nice things there. trust me.

TALK TO PARTY MEMEBERS FREQUENTLY.
Change party once in a while. Everybody has a story and a subplot.

search for subplots. they are part of the fun.

don't buy expensive items. You will find stuff soon enough. try and save eveything you find, you will have better opportunity to sell it at the end of the game. And you will need mucho cash for some candy goodies....

Whether you play light or darkside... take the "slow" forcepower to level 3 (pleague)
It can almost not be resisted and greatly weakens your oponent. Even Malak is defenseless! Get it to level 3 ASAP.

Also, take healing force regardless of alignment. It saves many medpacks and makes the game easier and less tedious on many occasions. Every jedi should have it. A 3 jedi party with heal is almost unkillable

For darkside, Deathfield is one of the best forces EVAR. hurts enemy, heals you. Area effect. Only 2 forcelevels nessesary. Dont forget heal though!

DO NOT TAKE SABER-THROW. : its not very strong and it strips you of your weapon for some seconds, means you cant deflect enemy fire ...
The only reason to take one point on it would be because you dont have anotehr damaging force for the endfight.

You NEED one damaging force for the endfight. One of the following will do: Death-field, Lightning, saber throw. Im not sure about destroy Droid but I think it will do.

Destroy-Droid is cool. (level 3 of stun droid) helps alot at many points in game.
as darkside Jedi, however, go for lightning instead. Does not stun the droids, but it has the area effect and hurts both droids and people...
Jolee is always a good candidate for it though.

Take either dueling or double handed combat, whether you deside to take one or 2 sabers and max out... (doubleblade saber counts as 2 weapons)
I prefer 2 weapons becasue you can put more lightsaber cristals in 2 lightsabers, which means more nasty additional effects.

When playing darkside, level Basilla with darkside forces. Trust me on this.

Jolee is an ideal all around character since he is absolutely neutral. So be free on giving him lightning, choke and all the other ugly powers that really kick ****. in combination with the nice support powesr of lightside he is really a bonus.

Consulars own.

Guardians are only usefull for lightside, since you will gain some very powerfull items raising your willpower and thus boost your forcepoints. Otherwise, you will be a nice fighter, but later you will need some spellslinging....
Save as many levels for guardians as possible since you have ver few forcepowers if not...
With some willpower bonus items and the right forces, you will be the lightside guardian from hell!

Sentinels are nive overall. Good skill improvement throughout the game, good balance between combat and forcepowers/points.
Biggest button is the resistance to mind affecting forces he gains. Makes a difference!

Well, stopped KOTOR2 from crashing by going back to Cat 4.11's. Then I beat it in one sitting. One...foodless, washroomless, breakless 20-ish hour long gaming session. It was awesome.

How are the framerates with Cat 4.11? I had horrible fps in KOTOR1 with my radeon.
• TestamentTestament Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4037Members
So-so, depending. I have 256 megs of SDRam and a 900mhz processor, but was running at high details and only got major FPS drop in a few points in KOTOR2. (Running a 9600 Pro)

Funny how this topic comes up, I just started a new game on xbox, going for my 6th time through.

Quite a different system on Light/Dark side... referred to as "influence"

And the game works with things called "Prestige classes" Meaning once you reach about 15, concerning your alignment, you will be one of 3 classes for either Dark or Light.

Was not a spoiler, just warning you, that you cant quite revert from side to side, once the time comes, your stuck there.

And most of all, pay attention to some conversations...as it sets up the game in some areas according to your choices.

Yea, I finished the game around level 23...funny thing is I was never offered those prestige classes (which I'm assuming make the end quite a lot easier since people were complaining how easy it was...but it's a pain in the **** to do it without prestige classes ). I'll tell you what's really annoying: that last planet. God, it's obscenely boring. It's like how the beginning of games are supposed to be. Like I want to run around for 20 minutes looking for exits and beating up crap.

Which might have been why I found the ending to be basically crap. I was basically still in the middle (although, I think you need to reach certain amounts of evil/goodness to begin some cut scenes...which I went to for a bit, and then sank back down to neutrality.

..."With enemies you know where they stand, but these neutrals you just don't know - they make me sick." ... "Fly the white flag of war!"

If nothing else, it does have a fairly cool random item generation feature going on. Where items in boxes are supposed to be more attuned to your current level. Some people seem to get mad you can't pick up the grey/orange/viridian/etc. crystal...which I don't find exceptionally important.

Maybe it was the fact the game kept freezing on me during loading, but many of the side quests were just big chores, there's not a lot of meat to them. Not like in the first one which has the spice smuggling (and the cool riddle box) or Bastilla's dad stuff or crap like that.

You had to talk to Kreia around level 15 or 16 to get a PRC. I was level 28 or so by the end, and I barely did any quests and avoided as much fighting as possible (I got bored of combat...'till my Sith Lord got Force Storm and Force Crush. BWAHAHAHA.) I went Sith Lord...you get Force Crush. Which lifts your enemy into the air, then crushes them. Instant death if they save, usually. 1-10 damage/x level, half damage on save. It rocks with Force Channel.

And I didn't really get anything meaningful out of the ending...it seemed kind of hollow, with no explanation. I think I'll get alot more answers if I don't murder all the Jedi Masters in revenge next play through.

Like how did I cut myself off from the Force so completely? Why? At the end of the game, why did it just fade to some wierd cloud in space? I asked Onderon for all of their force sensitives to create my own army of a different kill 'em all faction, and I got basically no choice of what my char did at the end. I wanted to take Kreia's option of waiting at the Academy on Malachor and training any force sensitives who would inevitably come.

(SPOILERS) END

Anyway, I hope they make a KOTOR3, where you combat the actual sith, maybe. The KOTOR games have the best story and dialogue of any RPG, for the most part. Right up there with Baldur's Gate 2. (And to appease the whiners, yes, Fallout 2. Though I only got halfway through it at most.)

It's like 50 or something, but you'll never get anywhere near that.
