What exactly is the issue?
I've heard multiple complaints that admin mod does not work properly with Natural Selection. I have also heard many explainations for this, as well as possible fixes. What exactly is the problem? I don't want to try to install admin mod on my server untill I'm sure it won't kill it.

When NS resets the game for end/start of round. It removes entities that admin mod has created for its own purposes. When people join AM tries to access these entites. *Bang* Server crashes.

i tried running admin mod but it just keeps pausing then restarting with no crash in hlds.

i seen other servers run it but i don't know how they do it.

Here's my recipie for AdminMod on a linux (slackware) DS:

Using AM 2.50.50 and just deactivated following plugins:

plugin_CS

plugin_TFC

plugin_retribution

plugin_spawn

    Now everything works just fine.
A few posts below it states that plugin_retribution is b0rked for NS, and that was also the cause for my servers to crash in intervals from 1 minute to 3 hours.

Taking it out solved the problem

Any solutions for a win32 server (yes, I know, I suck)? I sadly don't know anything about linux and couldn't set up a linux server even if I did.

I heard that the problem was with metamod also, that it used different names for players, entities, etc. than NS did. Is this the case?

Adminmod/Metamod break Win32 servers, so avoid them till a new Metamod version comes out.

Cracker are you using a Linux server too? Weird how mine works.

I'm having a huge problem trying to get Admin-Mod working with my ns server. After many, many reinstalls, searches for how-to's, and everything else, it still won't work. It continues to crash after a map change. No matter what..

Is this just an issue that Ns has with Metamod and is fixing with the new patch?

Oh, and ANY help or how-to's anyone could provide would be appreciated.

But of course I have a hard time believing ppl run DS on win32 still. hehehe.

But yeah, i tried to slay someone and *poof* server crash.

I have other plugins running but redeption is rarely needed anyway so i don't miss it that much i can just putt someone to the ready room using that rdyroom plugin (thanks again!)

You don't have the FX turned on do you (the explosions etc. when you slay someone... its an option in the config)?

Cos that may be the cause, I turned those off right away before anything.

Just to clarify. Adminmod does not work at all on a dedicated W32 server, at this time. There the problem EvilGrin posted is the issue. For some reason this does not appear to be a problem on Linux servers. Metamod works fine with the dedicated W32 server. I am running metamod and clanmod on my ded W32 server, and it works just fine.

yep. you people with win32 stick Clanmod on. Check out the NS forums @ United admins too. It has details on how to tweak CM to work correctly with NS.

I run RedHat Linux 8 with the latest OFFICIAL hlds server not released betas, the latest available clanmod NOT THE BETA, and the latest Adminmod. It all works like a charm. I even have all the adminmod plugins enabled that are default. Mind that I ran the provided adminmod install-script on a new clean hlds setup choosing the ns option during the installation. I will however turn off a few plugins after reading this post, for functionality reasons more than anything.

Have you guys followed the Vadakill tutorial for Adminmod? Check it out here: hlds/ns Tutorials

I'm running AdminMod on my win32 server, or sort of. I can get all of the plugins to work but NONE of the admin mod functions work. It doens't recognize any of they and I still have to rcon into the game. However winHL booster works fine? Weird.

next question, why does a normal ns server with the "normal" ns cpu usage of 45% go to 60% when running adminmod?

adminmod has alot more overhead, but i added pingbooster and it helped with that. My CPU is always 40-93% i can't get it to go above 93 but those damn marine turrets and kharaa onos really do a # on my server CPU. I even had a crash once because of onos/turrets.
  • GoleXGoleX Join Date: 2002-11-07 Member: 7681Members
Hmm, I might drop Adminmod then... my main goal is lower pings so I'll try that. I already have pingbooster running etc.

Also does Halfd add any major overhead?

HalfD is very low overhead, in my experience.
It will only use up bandwidth if you remotely connected and opt to receive the console text.
My server is right here though, so i'm not to worried about that.

Edit: I still cant get AdminMod working. tried a fresh install and everything.. get that same seg fault. but AMX works quite nicely, with only slight tweakage.

Have you got your server? Could you tell me your server ip? in irc

Adminmod rises pings and takes some CPU too..

Amindmod nostaa pingejä sekä viee koneelta tehoa ainakin 10% ellei enemmän.

OK, metamod is definatly not the problem, as I can get that to work fine. However, when I installed Clanmod, I couldn't access any of the admin functions, or any Clanmod functions for that matter. Eh?

Also, seperate question - does HLGuard work with NS, and would there be a point to installing it even if it did?

well to tell you the truth.. I don't know.. but I do know this.. unless it doubles the utilization on the cpu.. I'm going to use them.. I can't live with out them (nor can my admins).. I run a no swearing no whinning no llamas server and when I'm on playing it's easier to quickly use the clanmod menu to slap/kick/ban to eliviate any problem childs and then get back on with my play..

I went on a rant and decided to make a new post in the main .. you can find it here:

Alright when I get around to it I'll be removing Adminmod from my server to see if it improves anything to the point that it is noticable (I'd rather have my nifty commands though)

I'll let you know how it goes.

I run AdminMod on one server and ClanMod (latest ns-special beta) on my other. I see that ClanMod uses a bit less CPU.

But I also have a problem with ClanMod, whenever I have activated an information menu, where there is an old-style popupwindow in the middle of the screen (eg. list players, list admins, ...), I'm afterwards not able to open the ns-popupmenu anymore, and in the commandconsole I have no mousecursor and no items there. I don't even have the logoutkey in the upper right corner. Have to rejoin the server to get it to work again but as soon as I use the specific ClanMod menu again, the tragedy begins over and over

    Any ideas on that?

Guys, I got Admin Mod on my computer working just fine, but there was a strange problem where after a few minutes, the server console would just disapear and the server would die. I couldn't figure out what was causing it, so I went to the Admin Mod forums and I posted my query. Here's the direct quote from one of the makers of Admin Mod:

    Admin Mod Response

Hopefully that will help you guys out for now. Note that this might only apply to Win32 servers and not Linux servers.
