Service Pack 2

Should I get it?
Just got XP Pro on my computer, and I'm wondering whether or not to get Service Pack 2, since I remeber hearing about how it made some games not work.
Also, is there any way to get process viewer working again?
Much thanks to you all of r tech support,
Chimpy

same
SP2 is the loose.
View the Windows XP Service Pack 2, Is it REALLY REALLY necessary? thread. If you can weed through all the Firefox rift raft you'll see some good replies.
They updated a partial part of the LAN to test it and something really bad happened.
But then again when this Sp2 made the news they even said that only about 10% of people and companies etc who installed it had any problems with it.
SP2 had the opposite results on my computer, it slowed it down - nuff said.
Installed it, Works fine
Installed it, works worse
Didnt Install it.
Id heard it was a lot more stable but still since like a higher percentage of the world use XP 10% with errors is a HUGE ammount of bugs for a product patch.
Still, I keep seeing that icon, BEGGING me to upgrade.
Dont know how much longer i can resist...
it is always best to keep upto date on MS updates.
however there are a %age of programs that will stop working with SP2....
And so far, everything is working super duper.
If a poll were made, it would need to be:
Installed it, works better
Installed it, can't tell the difference
Installed it, works worse
Didn't install it
Some common problems:
- drivers not working
This means all sound, video, NIC, etc drivers must be re-installed
- programs stop working
Some programs may need patches insatlled or updated. Some really old ones may stop working
- taskbar doesnt show up
Only way to fix it has been uninstall SP2 and reinstall it
Overall, most install without issue, but this is just an idea of what may go wrong. In the end, nothing major, just annoyances. If you have no popup blocker (ie firefox) and firewall, it may be worth it.
Someone on these forums said that when it first came out, wish I could remember who.

It was an admin, I think Talesin.
It can have a pretty high price of failure lol.
First sp2 actually helping to protect my computer then microsoft's anti-spyware program being good....whats going on!?
...Which is just BS, because I - in 12 years of using the internet - have never had anything worse than adware attack any computer while I was operating it. Along with the fact SP2 adds no real benefit to my computer (except - ooooh it gets to take longer to start up). Add that to the fact it didn't want to install at first and I had to get it working because the IT people didn't know what the **** they were doing (...you know, except how she deleted my internet settings, and screwed up my connection - but I couldn't use it at that time anyway, so it doesn't really matter, right?), along with the fact there's now a password-protected-against-uninstall Symantec AntiVirus package on MY private computer - and you get one **** off gecko.
[on that note, if anyone knows how to remove password protected programs without knowing the password, send me some advice - because the IT department at this dorm is really, really **** me off]
Still that sucks, check anything youv signed with them and see if you gave them the right to do so, if not tell them to uninstall it or youl take legal action, although this may get you isolated
