I have to admit, back when the nade launcher had a much shorter reload time, it was more useful. Now it's the 20 resource gun that has a reload cycle longer than War & Peace, forces you to reload tubes that you already loaded if you switch during reload, and won't save you from anything except possibly a gorge or some OCs. The fact that it goes around walls and over fences is hardly enough of a benefit to outweigh the complete uselessness and counterintuitivity and expense of the damn thing. At the very least, making the shells more bouncy and ricochetable and adding some velocity to them might be a nice idea. I'd love to be able to shoot a grenade from one side of Viaduct to the other without raising my recticle above 30 degrees, or bounce it all the way down a hallway from outside the room. If the GL was more like an unpowered rocket launcher, I'd love to use it. Maybe if the explosion was a little heftier too.
However, I'm stupid, please explain how these changes would kill balance.
What you see there is the first NS weapon model ever created. Bathroom Monkey created it when the OICW was not as well known as today and essentially a grounded 'futuristic' weapon design. Time kinda took us over in that regard. Still, I have to admit to a certain weakness for the model.

How you could possibly see that as better than the current GL I have no idea. The current model is designed, used, and moves realistically. That model looks like what it was designed to be, a machine gun. And I wouldn't take it over the current HMG or LMG model either. I heard at one point they were planning on saving it to use as another weapon, but I assume those plans were scrapped a long time ago.

I agree. A fond memory of the old GL model was jping around in 1.04 hera with mp_bulletcam 1 [it put your POV into the grenade it shot, or so it was going to but never was finished to it kinda gave you wacky third person style view, sometimes in the model, sometimes behind it, etc
it didn't look as good in first person as it does renderd like that. It's still pretty awesome though. I'm pretty sure an LMG replacement was made out of it. If you like it that much you should check it out.
Why would grenades in a clip be wrong? Grenades are just big **** bullets that have an explosive payload.
You can get shotguns with clips.
You might need some mechanical assistance to chamber a round (probably not enough blow back to chamber the heavier round) but a bolt action grenade launcher would still be very, very fast.
I hardly saw that model in 1.0. Why use a GL when you can use the HMG for the same purpose

The older GL was more useful, but I hated it. Back then, GLs hurt way too much. Well, they still do, but at least it acts like a real grenade launcher now, instead of an automatic grenade launcher that looks like an OICW.
The old GL was nice (gameplay), especially since lerk flight was predictable.
The model was gorgeous too, but... NOT a grenade launcher. It looks like a double-barreled machine gun with a welder on the bottom. Admittedly, it looks decent as an lmg (especially since the existing one looks like a toy with a broken scope... I have a hard time imagining how it could kill a hive, even if it shot a gazillion peas).

It's so weird to see people astonished at the old GL. I remember having it like it there like it was yesterday, it makes me feel like an old timer in the NS universe.

The old grenade launcher, once upon a time, had an eight round clip. This was reduced to six rounds in one of the early patches and to just four rounds after 2.0 came out and they changed the weapon model (I think).
Eight rounds + very short delay between shots + cheap as free = crazy fun. Yeah, it was kind of overpowered (well, massively overpowered) but it was great fun. You always knew things were going well when the comm would open the purse strings and dish out a few GLs. Adrenalin fueled grenade powered mayhem was always sure to ensue.
I did like the older model, but the new model actually looks like a grenade launcher. With, you know. Grenades.
1.0 ftw!

oh come on align, the onos hitbox wasn't that bad! i mean, you just had to know where it was and "blam" with your gun and with your teamates and the onos goes down! provided.. uhm, well, if your lucky... 1.04 onos kicked major tush.
The 'old' GL model was nothing more than a placeholder for the eventual GL model we all see and use now.
Thinking about it, i still miss the old reloading back in the classic days of 1.0x. The then GL load was truely leet...and it is nothing compared to 'spam' these days

I don't think the new GL is all that bad...but the new jetpack sounds.... thats another story.... I'll never really enjoy fighting wih a vacuum cleaner on my back...
Awwww yea, that's the bad boy. Twice as powerful as the one used now, and quicker to reload. They changed it because the old GL model was supposed to be the HMG model...the old model dosen't even look like a GL.
