Giving away "prizes"!
Administrator notice: I've seen that of the stuff in the pictures, just about everything has been requested in at least one post by now. If people are asking for random stuff this early, it means they didn't read all of Doomaniac's post, because they would've read that not everything is being given away all at once. Doomaniac gives reasons for this below. If your post asks for something other than what's the bundle being given away *now*, then it will not count, and when what you want is actually being offered, you'll have to post again. Save yourself the trouble, and offer Doomeh the respect of actually reading his whole post the first time. Thank you.

Preface: I got the forum mods' permission to post this.
Insert by Marik: we were even nice enough to make an internal rule that we can't claim any of the stuff before you guys get a chance to post. Aren't we generous little dictators? :-)

As some of you may know, I'm kind of a pack rat when it comes to PC hardware. I never throw anything away. So because of this, I have a closet full of old crap. I'm far too lazy to eBay it, and it wouldn't be worth much anyway so I wouldn't be making any money. Rather than throw it out though, I decided to give it all away!

Now, before I get started listing what's going to be given away, just a warning: I can not vouch for the working condition of any of this stuff. Some of it I even know for sure it is broken. Why would any of you want partially/completely broken stuff? Who knows, I just figured I'd post and if anyone wants them for whatever reason, they can have it...

Here's how the giveaway will work: To make this all last longer, I'll be giving out bundles of crap at a time, rather than just 1 giant lot of crap. A winner will be determined by some stupid contest rules I make up when I get off my **** and think of them. Oh, and only you can only win once, with the exception being you wanting something that absolutely no one else wants.

Also, since I'm poor, I will ask that all winners pay for shipping costs. I won't be making any profit off this, but I can't afford to pay for everyone's shipping too especially when I'm giving the stuff away.

And yes, I know, its all crap. If you don't want it, please do not try to 'win' it, as there may be someone who really does want it for one reason or another...

With that out of the way, here's what I'll be giving away:

Gigabyte GA7-DX motherboard. Holds a 1.5ghz CPU, other than that you can google the specs cause I don't know them. I think the AGP port is fried on it.

AMD 750Mhz Slot A CPU w/ motherboard. Has power toggle issues so this would be good for a server you will leave on all the time.

3 Sticks of PC100 RAM. 2 Sticks are 64MB. 1 is 128MB. One stick is also dead, but I can't remember which! Fun fun!

PCI ATA-100 controller card! Never used!

Linksys 10/100 NIC (PCI)

Linksys 5-port hub

Generic sound card (PCI)

really old SB Live! Value (the first ones they made, not 5.anything) (PCI)

*VINTAGE* US Robotics 56K ISA slot modem (pre 56k standard flashed to 56k standard). Own a piece of history!

Voodoo3 2000 (AGP)

GeForce 1 DDR (AGP)

GeForce 4 Ti 4400 (AGP) Without a doubt the nicest thing here.

Kenwood 52speed CD-ROM

Lite-On DVD ROM

Generic 300W power supply

A broken Nintendo Gamecube controller, fried by yours truely in a nasty static electricity accident

1 old crappy 2 button joystick (uses Gameport, not USB)

1 really crappy joystick w/ multiple buttons and a HAT switch (also Gameport)

A RatzPad mouse pad I got at some CPL event years ago (amazingly balanced on chair)

And as an added bonus, with each bundle I will throw in 1 game I don't play anymore. It may be a good game, it may be a crappy game. :p

[edit]
Let me lay down some more rules:

Only posts made AFTER I announce the bundle will be paid attention to

Likewise, PMs and IRC messages and rocks thrown through my window will be ignored

In the interest of fairness to the community, I won't be doing any special favors to those whom I am closer friends with. It wouldn't be fair to the community for me to retract my offer after making it.

I'll try to do 1 bundle roughly every 24 hours.

Not everything in that drawer is up for grabs. Like hell I'm giving away my good stuff. :P

[/edit]

So to get the ball rolling, the first bundle up for giveaway is this the AMD 750Mhz CPU w/ Mobo, and the 3 sticks of RAM (1 of which is dead), and the voodoo3. If you're wanting to build a server somewhere (it would run an old linux distro quite well) this is the bundle for you.

How to win this bundle: Post the reason you want it. I'll pick the winner from the responses. Again, only try to win it if you really want this, because some others really might.

:D

Further note: I need a extra computer for a compsci summative project which I cant afford...

That GeForce 1 looks pretty nice. I'm working on making a MAME arcade box down in the basement, and I could use a semi-crappy video card for it. I have an old Voodoo3, but I'm not sure how well it works, and it's mainly used to watch TV. Plus some of the games I'm gonna put on the box (such as TMNT and Shadow over Mystara. You played them with us, right, Doom?) I don't have everything for it yet, but a video card would really kick some arse in helping me get it done.

Plus, I need to spend money on speakers for the thing, not a video card. I have most of the other parts I need, though. Just not the essentials, such as card and the joystick thingies.

I could go for it, since i have a good knowlage of electronic parts and could possibly fix broken cards.....

I could go for the mobo, powersupply, videocard, and ram so i could get started on a small server that I need.

As a present, i could make more doom weapons ^_^

My sister in law and her teenage son fried their mobo about a year back - at first we thought it was the power supply, but after going thru a couple, we think it's the mobo.

Anyway, she's a MHMR tacher and cant afford a decent replacement system - she's working off an old 486 laptop right now - and her son is tying to get into comp sci classes at school.

Help me help him by hooking him up with a real puter again.

I should win a randomised prize of DOOM's choosing because....

    1. I kick your **** so soundly at AHL, it's probably best if I downgrade somehow, to level the playing field.

    2. I am 'teh hostking' for everyone. And you know it.

    3. I'm half English, half Irish and I have an Australian passport. With genetics like that, gaming is the only way to avoid alcoholism.

    4. I would be aiming for whatever the most comedy value item is. Stuff usefulness, I idle #evolutionarily, remember!

I feel this is all for now.

P.S Don't forget doombank. Remember your roots! *Slips DOOMy £10

I think I deserve the GeForce 4 Ti 4400 because I bought the GeForce 4400 a few years back at around $200 I think, when it was brand new. The company I bought it from sent it to me broken, so I sent it back to them and they wouldn't replace it or fix it because they said I had to send it to chaintech. I've sent it to chaintech 3 times and each time they just send it back broken. (I've tried the card on 4 different computers, trust me, it's broken.) Now it's sitting in my closet, covered in dust, and it never worked once. It would be nice to have actually played with a working card of the 4400.

If I were to get this, I'd put it in my 4 year old computer that has a fried Radeon 7200. That's all

    Joystick! I must have joystick!

All my life I have been two conflicting things: a rabid unabashed Star Wars fan and a greedy moneyhoarder to the 10th degree. I pick pennies up every single time I see them even if I'm in the middle of the street or in a hurry. Conversely my walls are covered with Star Wars action figures and posters and my game collection is about a third Star Wars games. Just about the ONLY thing I can ever bring myself to buy is something Star Wars: my latest purchases were Star Wars: Battlefront then Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (just to give you an idea about how often I buy stuff. KOTOR came out long ago; I have bought nothing but Battlefront since then. HL2 came with my 9600). Before that was Star Wars: Galaxies, Rebellion, The Jedi Knight games, Episode I, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and a number of others. So many beautiful Star Wars games.

    But I have a problem. 2 problems.

One: I cannot play X-Wing or anything wonderful like that. When I moved from California, I lost my joystick. Gone kaput. Normally this is no problem: get a joystick. But me. I am cheap. Cheap like you cannot imagine. Even if it would facilitate hours of Star Wars dogfights, I do not buy it. It is parting with my hard ground-scavenged pennies.

Two: Due to my lack of joystick I cannot play the Star Wars flight sims, some of which I GASP do not own. X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter? HAVE NEVER PLAYED. X-Wing ALliance? NO! Rogue SQUADRON!?!?! Only on my friend's N64! The horror!

To this end I ask you for one or both of your joysticks and any Star Wars flight sims you may have and do not want. I shall pay shipping; the Star Warsiness pervades me enough to allow that luxury.

Edit: Yes, of course I realize the joystick isn't up for winning right now. I'm just jumping the competition by posting what I hope will sway the odds in my favor.

I deserve the geforce 4 graphics card, because i want it to give it to someone who needs it so much; my older brother.

i really wish that i could give my older brother, 21, some financial support for his present situation. i know that upgrading his computer is something he wishes he could do, but he cant, because he just doesnt have any money. one of his hopes is to be able to play halflife 2 on his computer, but i dont think thatll be possible with what hes running on. so i think that giving him a new graphics card, would be great. currently, he lives in chicago, in a rundown area and is struggling to pay for his college tuition, which is extremely high (university of chicago) and paying for personal needs, as well as apartment rental fee. though he is extremely poor, he is letting one of his friends live freely under his roof. however, he is getting evicted from the apartment he lives in right now. so he has to find a new apartment by the end of the month.

my brother, wesley, is the most humble person you will ever meet, both outwardly and inwardly. he deserves so much more than what he is getting in life right now. he has a good heart, but personally, i fear for his life. i dont know how much longer he will last. his relationship with my parents are almost completely cut off due to family issues and my parents, as inhumane as it sounds, refuse to pay for a large portion of his tuition. i dont think that he'll last in college much longer. he was turned down for a strong financial aid plan every time

please!! i want to be able to give my brother something special!

Doomeh, I heavily suggest you give away the software separately, rather than including a random game in each package.

    Why?

Some of those games may be rare. People like me, who prefer not to pirate games that are Worthy of the respect just because they're no longer on store shelves, would have trouble finding them elsewhere.

I've been lucky enough to track down someone unappreciative of their Planescape: Torment CD's to buy from them (finding an existing, scratch-free, legal copy is near impossible. Finding someone willing to part with their copy is like finding someone in E3 who doesn't recognize who Mario is). But if you had something like System Shock 2 in that shelf, I'd do everything short of abusing my forum priviledges to make sure it comes to me. I'm sure other people feel similarly about other games in there. Don't let them go out randomly.
