Why The F*** Is It So Hard To Win In Co

<div class="IPBDescription">marines lose so much</div> I recently got back into ns and tried out the new combat system on Beta 5. It seems that no matter how good the marines are, the aliens just keep winning.
Most of the aliens keep getting this exploding upgrade that completely destroys your armor (xenocide if i remember correctly) and with consequtive blasts, you just die. And the other thing is the new focus upgrade that totally rocks any marine w/o armor. It's really hard to stay alive once a skulk gets that 4th ability and his mates get focus.

the other time we won was when the teams were uneven; 12-9.
Other than that it's just lose-lose for the marine team almost every time. God damn xenocide, focus fades, and onos with stomp just ruins it all.
Just a game...
and I think u should get back to the ns_world
rather than geeting angry about the co_maps...
it isn't as much of rines sucking as aliens being suited to peoples' natural gameplay tendency.
If the time limit is 30 minutes or more, then the marines simply have to camp and not get picked off by the aliens getting free levels as the aliens try rushing (I've yet to have anyone wait 30 minutes with me for the marines to come out of spawn)
Both of these situations causes level balance issues where marines are level 3 and aliens are still level 1-2.
The longer the actual fighting goes the more it favours the aliens, (my opinion) and as such if you want to win you need to move quickly in a group.
to live longer
or to "exploit" your dying
Live longer usually means either getting armor (if you have brains you do get armor1) or pumping up your guns so hard you don't get hit.
exploiting your death simply means things like nades, mines. uberspam anything. If you kill yourself by your own GL its no loss

lol yea..but sometimes the pace of ns maps start to get a little sluggish and I get a craving for a rush of fast gameplay.
BUt yea something needs to be done, imo, about the aliens winning constantly. Oo maybe they should gain exp slower -_-.

I agree.
Losing or winning in combat maps isnt really the point of playing it. Its just to help you get adjusted to the gameplay if you are total newbie.
Move on to NS maps and you will probably have 1000000x more fun.

its fun as aliens (on pubs) until the stackers run to your hive and spawn camp you to death.
If you are a good lvl 1 skulk, then fade directly. You will die less, thus helping your team alot more than the 40/40 skulk would do.
Once you reach lvl 10 dont suicide attack rines. You dont benefit from it and your team usually doesnt either. Good players are supposed to save upgrade points and make upgrade choices, that allow them to play more than a single lifeform.
E.G. my i can do everything upgrade order: Fade,cele,regen,cara,adren,sof.
Thsese upgrades allow me to Fade/Lerk/onos and even web gorge, if i have to.
In addition i agree to that Single players can turn a co game. One extreme good rine can defeat a whole alien team, whereas a good alien can munch a bunch of rines. And a single player feeding the other team decides the game (usually not in favor of his teammates).
first question is what is your kill death ratio as an individual. If it is always really negative, then you want to start with mines as your first upgrade. For every time you die, you get to lay a mine thus usually killing a skulk (if you lay them well) This will help tremendously in balancing your KDR. Then you need to just play more and work on killing skulks. Somebody said the first minute is the most important. Thats very true. You need to kill as many vanilla skulks as possible before they start leaping and fading.
If you have a high KDR, then think about what you're using as an upgrade path. If you can go 5-1 on the first rush regularly, then you should be doing something like: resupply, w1, shotty, a1, a2.
then you have options.
if no fades ----> jetpack
if fades ----------->hmg or w2/3
heavy armor blows in co cause you never have a welder buddy and oni like to single you out for munchies. Most other rine upgrades are waste of points.
Here is my tech tree for co as marines.
Marine--->Armor 1--->Armor 2--->Jetpack--->Weapons 1--->Shotgun--->GL/HMG (Depending On Situation)--->Armor/Weapons
Usually when I get jp, the points start to flow in.
its hard to win because it takes alot of skill to beat xeno users, and not much skill at all to be a xeno user.

This just makes me laugh.
You know, if the aliens are in the position where they can run around with xeno, then you lost looong ago. Consider taking some armour upgrades next time, instead of tech rushing an hmg.
But in another game where he and I played aliens, he gorged and a couple of mates and I faded. The marine team was owned even though they had a few decent players. As long as the aliens have a gorge with web babysitting the hive, its difficult, if not impossible for the marines to win.
So it kind of depends, in part, on who does what task for the aliens. For marines its all up to how well your mates can aim and whether or not they can keep the aliens spawned into their hive.
Necrosis is right about the xeno thing. If just one of the guys on the alien team gets it, the marine team is already done for. All it takes is one blast to kill a few good marines and a team skulk rush to come and finish off the weakened marines.
One thing I'm starting to notice is that when the game gets prolonged for lets say, 20-30 minutes, the aliens begin teching to onos with redemp as well as some other ups like focus, cara, cel, etc, etc. With +5 onos its difficult for an entire team of marines with hmgs, and, at best, lvl 2 weaps, to deal with that amount of aliens, which totals to around 3500 in hp and around 3750 in armor. Redemption also makes it difficult for them to get killed since they could just charge the chair/ several marines, without dying, and having to spend the time gestating to onos again. The silly plugins on co servers allow them to super-tech their life forms, rendering the marine weapons useless against them.
Xeno helps you kill groups of marines and these who are not killed will have no armour left and xeno is very difficult to counter while easy to use.
Focus for one bite killing marines without any armour left. Later go on for Fade wit Focus able to kill every light marine in two swipes. Do the blink-in/blink-out game. You can counter that only by moving in group so you can kill a focus fade before he’s able to blink-out. But the next xeno-sof skulk will be pretty attracted by the group of red cicles.
And at least you can go Onos. As Cara-Redept Onos you can do ridiculous things like running into a group of 5 lv.10 Marines and kill some of them and still have a very good chance getting “redempt” out.
And from time to time some of the xeno skulks should go gorge and web the hive room and the paths to the hives.
To win as alien in combat is just a way to easy imho.
