Saw it yesterday. I like it when the tank is firing at the building constantly and you hear one of the guys saying something like "man he sure don't like that building" <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I guess ill be the first to express the 'cynical' opinion that its probably slightly wrong to derive entertainment from an actual war which is still happening.

The guys there certainly seem to be enjoying it. Like after the rocket was fired they were like "YEAH! WOOOO!"

Give it a few years and you might even see a game based on it. Just like WW2, Vietnam, etc.

I'm curious about what happened to that one soldier's face/eye area when he had a partner looking at it. Does anyone have good enough hearing to listen about what happened there?

What exactly are they shooting at? Surely they don't just spam buildings in the hope that they hit something, that seems like a very inefficient way of fighting a battle. Not to mention expensive...

Believe me when I say they've got the money for it.

Near my house, there is a huge military base for both Army and Air Force. Recently we got a article showing that EVERY SINGLE toilet seat there costed $600, and they get new ones every 2 years.

Its so their budget won't be lowered in time of crisis, they say.

What I know they do is that if they see a suspect window in a house, they won't wait to be shot to see if there is a sniper in it, they will shoot a couple of rounds in it.

City fighting isn't a particularly efficient way to fight. The large amounts of walls and other obstacles means that fighting is probably going to be house-to-house and things like armor support will be harder to get in there and more vulnerable once in. Just because we couldn't see it on the video doesn't mean that there wasn't anybody in there.

Please try to remember that urban warfare isn't like Counter-Strike. If a unit has to choose between running an avoidable risk and blowing the hell out of a house, they'll go with option two every time. Ammo is easy to replace. Trained soldiers are not.
  • StrabismoStrabismo Join Date: 2003-10-27 Member: 22052Members
I forgot to talk about psychological effects and it is very important in this type of battle. The point of shooting like they do is to keep the ennemy pin-down. So instead of shooting the easy targets that are american soldiers in the streets and on the roofs, they stay covered or run away, crapping in their pants and calling their mothers because there are bullets flying and and buildings exploding everywhere around them. So they have been pulling back and now they are surrounded and they have no where to go.

This tactic is very effective but takes TONS of ammo.

One thing I don't get is if the whole city is evacuated and they are just blowing buildings up, is why don't they just bomb it? Either way they're going to destroy a whole lot of buildings. I'm guessing it has something to do with image. Evil bombing Americans vs freedom fighting soldiers?

would be cool if it were fiction... I can't get over how young the soldiers are, and how much joy they get from snuffing out the lives of people who've probably lived twice as long as them and who're just defending their homeland.
