<div class="IPBDescription">ANOTHER Intro Thread</div> Hey everyone, I've been playing HL mods for awhile, and thought now's as good a time as any to get my feet wet in NS. I must say, the game looks really promising, so cudos to those of you involved in its development. But, like all newbtarts, I've got some questions...
1. I've read on here countless times that teamwork is pivitol. No team work and you WILL loose. Now, this sounds like a really great thing, but its been promised to me before in the form of other mods that quote "stress teamwork and cooperation". Needless to say that almost never seems to be the case. So just how much of an impact does teamwork have in "the real world"? Is it one of those rare things whereI have to been on a real class act server, or is it commonplace?
2. No problems with following commands, but just what kind of impact/ control does a Commander have? Will a bad commander cost my team games? Is there any way to counter this?
3. Another thing I'm seeing is that this game has a real community feel. I really like this, and was wondering if there are any perfered servers that I could pick up some worthwhile playing experience at (yes I saw there was a thread on servers that was stickied, I'm going to go real it right now).
Anyways, that's all the rambling I'm willing to type at the moment. Great game, love the idea, yada yada yada, so on and so forth. Thanks.

The commander does play an important role. If he's not good, you will lose (only exception is if you have players with a pretty good aim and the aliens aren't that good). The commander needs to know what is going on all the time and has to be able to multitask. The commander also has to be able to react and adapt to how the alien team's strategy changes.
I don't know what type of gameplay experience you're looking for for sure. Some public servers have quite a high skill level. It also depends on how used to the game you are (since some servers expect people who join to know what they're doing, but there are a lot that new people too). I usually play on the Lunixmonster (check my sig), but that is just me and my preference (since I know some people do not like it).
2) The commander is essentially 1/2 the marine team - a good one can make a round a snap to win, a bad one can make it very difficult. The best thing I can reccomend is be nice to your comm - don't harass him for guns and whatnot; he is a busy busy person. Do give him information and advice, but always follow his orders.
3) My suggestion is to play on a lot of servers until you find a few you like. One thing I reccomend is servers that don't stray too far from the game's 'normal' settings. For example, the combat gamemode is balanced around 10 minute matches - servers with 30 minute timelimits etc. don't play well in my opinion.
After playing a round or two, I'm notice that Marines really don't last very long on their own. I like that, any game that allows for "Rambo" type players just isn't for me. I've found that leading with the LMG (that is, shooting a bit in front of a moving target) works really well against the smaller, faster aliens (Sulks and those bat things). What kind of hit boxes does the game feature? Is it better for me to go for the skull or their underbelly, or does it matter?

Best advice so far. Surf servers, find one where you really click with the players, make friends, and see if they have a site. If they do, become part of the community. Sooner or later, you and a couple buddies will always be present, and pull pub games into pretty fun teamwork games. You dont always have to win, just have fun.
