<div class="IPBDescription">(Partially that is.)</div> For those of you who didn't notice it in your Steam 'Games' menu, the Source SDK has been partially released. The release contains mapping/modeling/texturing tools but no modding tools or documentation (yet).

Check it out <a href='http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=news&id=340' target='_blank'>here</a>.

Edit: On a side note, I've created some shinny new Source specifications for Batch Compiler. Run Batch Compiler's automatic update to get them.

Yes, but this is where it should really be. Seeing as, at the moment, all you can do is map. Right? D:

Its a damn shame the editor is so damn buggy, and that your texture values reset after you're done applying them.

Plz tell me you're JOKING Recoup! They ALL reset???

make sure your mouse dosnt leave the box for the texture editing, otherwise they will reset

This needs to be fixed; it's probably my only real hate of the current Hammer.
  • RecoupRecoup Join Date: 2004-04-25 Member: 28195Members
    here is what I do:

enter the values (width, length, position, rotation, etc) and hit "Apply All" and click on the brush. It plasters the texture on it, but all the values in the texture box reset. Bye bye.

No wonder HL2 took so long, their editing software is all buggy as hell.

Ah ok, i thought about it but i was told that it was not possible to transfer SDK through another via than Steam. Hoax ? Well thx for your proposal anyway, i don't get cs:source at the moment so it will be useless for me <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Yes the new VHE is buggy, it'll get better, though.

i think its doing pretty good so far considering its a "editor for a game thats not even out"

but it is an program based on a well working, debugged, optimized map editor. it would be understandable if there were any problems with the new features, assigning physics and surface properties to objects for example.
but problems with texturing? ok, then we start right back with worldcraft 2.0 where texture alignment was the hell cause of the missing "top, bottom, left, right, center"-buttons.
    thats unforgiveable <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Me too, and thanks to Steam's nature all we have to do is send Valve an email asking them kindly to fix this texture issue and it'll be done.

I really cool feature that is in Hammer 4 but I haven't found yet is the ability to have special textures where you can "rub" off the top layer and reveal a different texture underneath. For NS:S all we have to do is rub off some infestation(or rub in some) instead of having a bunch of different textures.

Shame that feature is not functional in hammer ATM. It is also pretty limited as to what you can do because you can only use blend materials and there is only one alternative texture that you can paint on (ie you rub off the texture to reveal another one as someone said).
