About Clan Leaders

why do they get temper tantrums
Back in the day when I would be able to goto clan-x's (dun want to name any clan in particullar) ventrilo channel (and this was before I ever did any ns competetive gameplay) I recall that many of the members (whom i do not wish to name) would go into a fit of rage during clan matches. Now i think its kind of strange that people would get so mad over NS. I mean come on its just a game right? But NOOOoo. Every time i went into there was this one guy that was always yelling at the top of his lungs into his mic, accusing his fellow teamates of doing stupid things and crap like that, when he himself, clearly, made mistakes as well. This makes me wonder how and why clan members even bother to put up with all that crap and now it really makes me wonder why a lot of clans have broken up and reformed. Maybe its because of skill? Or is it because these new members they meet get along better? I dunno. I'm grateful to say that the clan I was in had pretty decent members (as in personailty-wise and skill-wise i must say), but sometimes fights would break out too. After many arguments, which were over who was n00b or a f***ing idiot, I believe some of my fellow clan mates refused to play any longer (well i coudn't b/c my internet got screwed up) and that pretty much led to the dissemination of the entire clan at that point. Maybe its all about winning that puts pressure on people to do their best and forces leaders to yell at their fellow mates. Who knows...
Overall though, I think clanning is pretty fun when you win matches, learn/share tricks and ideas, and get to meet other skilled people in the world of NS. It's just that when people start verbal fights, instead of trying to see and learn from their mistakes as well as reason with each other, it kind of makes you want to give up on clanning altogether sometimes.

Clan leading is stressful as it is.

But having dumb members who don't follow orders is even more stressful.

well the clan that i observed did have clan members following orders. It was just that when someone died, all you would hear is a string of cuss words, somewhere in the 900 dB range, over ventrilo.

Only the weak can not control their anger.

I know that I personally get discouraged when teammates make poor personal decisions that end up being a detriment to the team. Players learn bad habits that are difficult to break, and despite however many times you try to get them to stop they still do it occasionally. When you lose a round because of it it can be frustrating, which often comes across as anger. I know I sound angry when some of my players make a mistake that they know they shouldn't make, but I try to calm myself down, especially when the game is still going. While it is a game, you still must take it seriously if you spend a significant amount of time on it like competitive players do. Everyone values their time. We had a bad start tonight in a scrim, lost that round, and went on to win the next 5, including an epic comeback round. It's just how the dice roll sometimes, and you have to keep your cool and focus fire to get the job done. That was the most satisfying round I've had in a few days, and I plan to have many more like it.

What is important to remember is that even people who get along fine most of the time will be prone to have an outbreak or start a verbal fight if things go badly. It's a natural thing and must be anticipated. Stuff happens, and the most important thing is to be able to quickly put those things behind you and not break a clan up for some random outbreak.

    Yeah?
What if leading a clan becomes stressful enough to cause ill health?
What do you do if a senior member and server operator is found to be using an aimbot, and kicking him would result in loss of server, whilst not kicking destroys your reputation and labels your clan as cheaters?

Don't assess the CL's role until you have walked a mile in his shoes. (Yeah well, I know that way you have his shoes and are a mile away, but that's not my point. )

(This comming from an angry CL who is indeed in the aforementioned postion.)

Dude, I was talking about normal people here, not psychotic fourteen-year olds.

A team where no one ever disagrees or engage in fights of some kind isnt a healthy and creative team. What I'm saying is just that you shouldnt be afraid of confrontations, not that constant fights and people insulting each other all the time is something to be expected and accepted.

I briefly led the amazing COW clan, that was stressful. Couldn't be bothered soon enough. If i'm ever in a clan, I make sure from the start that I am the lowliest of lowlifes so that I have no responsibility whatsoever other than to shoot the enemy.

Yeah, let's see how much patience you have left after trying to keep a bunch of your clanmates in line, without the benefit of being within smacking distance.

It's definately not worth getting angry over any game, ever, but it's certainly not unexpected.

I am/was in Clan Epidemic, our members were pretty nice guys. A little chatty on the tactical channels but they were decent. Then our clan leader left?!?! The website is still up but the server is down and no one goes there. I should leave, we haven't played a game in 4 months.

anger on the mic, especially vent or ts channels, is not needed. Screaming on the mic is not only unnecessary but incredibly distracting. Save the anger for the debrief, no need to kill spirits mid match

Most clanners understand that even though there is yelling and screaming, it just because of the adrenaline, tension, and pressure.
