    Yeah currently this is 3.0 beta 5 client...my appology on the update clearing, and yes what i said about the update changes is the general part, few changes to maps, bugs fixed which i do understand, and many other things but what im tryin to point out is to give aliens something new. This alien hp increase this is just a bunch of bull. I've yet seen a single good thing happen on aliens favor besides the cloaking factor introduced in 2.0. Thats all im tryin to say and plus some of the old mods i garentee would make the game better. Onos for example, Jetpackers are immune to his stomp, only way you can kill a jet packer is either your a good devourer/gorer or the jetpacker screws up flyin away from ya and you get to him. 1.04 PARALYZE was the fun thing takin out jetpackers. I wont say much for gorge babblers even if they were fun, prefer the bilebomb in the favor unless they unglitch the babblers, but ANYWAY, back to the subject, what im just tryin to say and give aliens abit of something, a new taste of a new race, something that doesnt keep people favoring marines, somethings that gives people variety or pulls this game out of the sewers. If you go on, their are more empty servers then people playin them by atleast 60-70% of the server population. I just want beta 6 to be an awsome, pull out of the gutter, type of patch. Most of you have to know what i'm talking about.

    I also made a mistake about the balancing part, i typed before i thought, i know it wasnt balanced around 1.04 as well, but i garentee if they play around with it instead of this plain...same strat running around killing type of game...add some things from past versions and add some new things like a new race to aliens like i said in the previous post to give this game more liveability to people. I've seen so many people leave ever since these other updates came out, which i am happy for for bug wise, the additions, maybe not. This game is by far the best mod created for half life and hope to see it in half life 2 style. (anything else i have previously said or mistakened like balanced during 1.04 and calling this version 5.0 was a mistake( i was dead tired when i wrote this ^^)

    sure, 1.04 has unbalanced bits.

    BUT

    Fades vs HA marines trains fighting claw and bullet for ground in the corridors around Cargo hive on NS_nothing is one of my best NS memories. Fades can't engage HA trains anymore on masse, even with 3 hives acid rocket doesn't do anything/

    Bring back alien long ranged weapons. (spike, Acid Rocket)

    Was always aliens win at melee or very long range, marines win at anythign inbetween (although pistol and shotty covered them for extreme range and melee repesctivly)

    The Fade, for example, went from being an acid rocket professional to a more powerful Skulk with built in Regen. I never found Acid Rocket really useful in Beta 5, in fact the only Hive 3 ability I can think of that deserves late-game status is Xenocide, with Acid Rocket and Web desperately wanting to be more useful as midgame abilities.

    I'm sorry but I have to agree with both sides, No, NS 1.04 wasn't balanced, it was tipped towards marines.. You get a JP hmg rush and its over, no questions asked. Now lets think of things, back in 1.04 the ONOS was something truely to be feared by all marines. He was massive, a moving mountain basically and people saw him and ran. Now lets see what the onos is shall we?

    He's, big, he's pinkish, and he's wet.. What is it?? A ****. I have seen many players go both ways as onos, i've seen him rape, and i've seen it get raped more frequently then anything. Just last week I was playing a reg ns game, nothing specall but the marines were retards, the aliens took the map with in 7.5 minutes. The marines were pushed back into there base, now with 3 hives in 1.04 ns, all the aliens had to do was hold there position, and rush with onos and its done. Now, it took them 1.5 hours for them to take us down, we lasted that long. Bare in mind me and 2 friends were the only real experenced players, that makes 3, I bet your all wondering now how many players were in that game, 18. It was 9 on 9 the entire game, basically 3 people were holding off anywere from 3-4 onos from rush to rush with out much of a problem, finnaly it took a genious on the aliens side (not really) to figure out destroying our seige cannons would slow us down, they were building outside of our base. Then they moved in with support of Defence chambers as onos and proceded to destroy our entire base. After two distress beacons and two more failed rushes they moved in with Fades, Lerks and a onos.

    Now normally i'd wonder how the hell that happened, but I can say how it did happened because I witnessed it, hell I commanded for the last part of the alamo and gave us another 15 minutes with 10 res. Shotguns for almost every member, the shotty held the onos back while 1 heavy machine gun did the res.

    Now i'm sure you were thinking we had at least a few upgrades... Wrong, we had lv 2 weapons, lv 1 armor.. Nothing else. 220 damage to a onos per shotgun blast was enough to hold them back considering it doesn't take that much from a shotty to take an onos, takes even less from a HMG. The whole point of the matter is the onos is weak, and the aliens have lost alot from 1.04, sure the marines are even more limited, but the aliens are almost crippled at points. They have a giant 75 res bullet sponge that does exactly that, absorbe marines at points thanks to the buggy devour, and get large holes from low calaber bullets and buckshot then finnaly die. Now I can see a shotgun doing that much damage if it was a slug, because thats a giant round comming at you, but buckshot? Hell jsut about every type of armor now can deflect that, and your telling me a massive alien with a armored hide get shot in the **** 3 times and runs away? Then there is something wrong there. There is not much more to change, but the onos needs more power, I love NS, the only thing that CS has near it is the "S" in the short version, CS is nothing to NS.

    Natural-Selection has been my favourite game since 1.0, and some of the changes I have seen has pained me, some has made me sigh thinking "yes, they saw that problem". The point is, NS has gone far, but it only as a little farther to go. When 3 people can collectively kill 45 onos in less then 2 hrs, with only 2 shotguns and 1 hmg, there is a problem there.

    they made the onos 75 res because it sucked and needed to be a ha counter. i LOVED LOVED LOVED 2.0 when onos had redemption and were a threat, devour, smash up a few of u and get away. it was AWESOME to play against, but now iv actually said "there are 2 onos in generator, lets just go kill them" cause they are so weak lol... totally agree with this guy

    oh btw, onos is basicly a 2 hive lifeform, below 2 hives is death by la... yeah... nice ha counter there.....

    2 hive onos owns any rambo target... except a jp... and jp kinda counter everything ( admit it... admit it... admit it...) . even packs of 2 ha or 3 la ( with hmg or sometimes lmg for the la lol ) can easily kill an onos if they can shoot for a nickle. stomp doesnt really help u cause jp will pwn the ... 'pwnos' and ha trains own up their so called 'counter'

    youll find that marines win more often on servers with mp_blockscripts 1
    I know a alot of people who will only play marines on blockscript servers.

    Also the game is favored more towards marines in large games. how ever. having 2 early lerks per 4-5 players will actualy help you alot more.

    Aliens are fine, just change your tactics. When you play the Aliens Taticaly they are <u>></u> Marines

    Onos are fine, Ive seen one onos rape 9 heavies with no support. To often I see people rush 5 hmgers and cry that the onos is weak. If you have problems with devour get a crosshair.

    Sometiems its like people say "unbalanced! unbalanced!" before they take a few to think about thier tactics and consider changing it.

    This is what ive noticed. I researve the right to be wrong.

    The old verisons weren't better. NS was new and all so it was fresh and fun. Other reasons to go . And marines and aliens seem a bit more balanced. Aliens seem to be winning in a 30 player server more often than in b4 unless the good commanders all left (It happens that on this certain server I play I don't see any old faces much anymore) .

    If you were to play 1.04 again you wouldn't like it like when you first started playing ns (1.0x?). Sure some things were fun like welders killing everything and gorges(1 gorge) with a skulk army. Fade blink back then wasn't really all that great maybe because it was buggy but I wouldn't think 1.0x blink was better than 2.0 + blink. Oh the fade teleported (Seems like 2.0+ blink except buggy) wow...
    But old features doesn't really make old verisons that much better. Thats the only thing good about 1.0x as I remeber is those old features.

    Combat isn't really that bad. Maybe some of your old time friends stopped playing regular ns and moved onto combat . Combat is really fun once in a while . Taking breaks from regular ns after all those wins or loses maybe you need something else to do besides building RTs and so. NS was fun for me but after playing maybe too much I am getting bored of it. One of the reasons is that old players I used to remeber stopped playing often. <span style='font-size:2pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:#333399'>Other reason is I lost my steam account : ( but thats not really it now that I got to play ns again (after maybe 2-3 months of no NS) .     Why does always come the Argument it was fresh and new ??
    This is maybe true for the first month of 1.04 but we played it over an half year !!!
    Most Games are almost forgotten after an half year so dont use this as an argument. The only reason why everybody wanted 2.0 so badly was that we all hoped that there are minor Balance (JP+HMG Rush) and Bug Fixes.

    Done properly, you could have 2 gorges rolling as the second hive was still building and have OC's going up at both hives as the jetpackers were rolling in.

    No.. I'm not saying 1.04 was balanced... but it wasn't incredibly god awful like everyone says.

    It was by far MUCH more fun than what we are left with today. Losing as a marine was hella fun because it really was a last stand situation.. none of this bullsh|t like we have today where Marines can last for days holed up in their base.

    Babblers kicked ****.

    The one gorge system was much better than the collective system we have today. I find it disturbing that the NS team thinks it is okay to allow one team to have a central command and the other to be collective (in the public server environment).

    2.01 was alright. Still better than what we have today.

    I still find it funny that the NS team continues to use their flawed system of determining what is "balanced". I mean... they must be using the same beta testers over and over and not accurately creating a "public" environment (which should be done since that constitutes how the game is mostly played).

    They never talk to us players in normal language. They release some stupid half-complete statement on their front page and then a weak changelog in the forums and that's it.

    Seriously.. get some brains. Tell us REAL useful information. If a major change was made... TELL US WHY.

    Oh yeah... and I'd just like to say one more thing...

    Xaajeh believe it or not i often played a 2 gorge tactic at the beginning of an Round not when the second hive was going up.

    All the Gorges had to do was build 2 RT´s each. This was in the beginning a little bit slower but fasten up with every Minute. Also it was possible to build the second and the third Hive simultanoesly (I know its wrong spelled ^^) with only one minute delay to the one gorge tactic.

    But the most bad thing in all new Versions is that all aliens have turned into an Hit and Run Class

    Quaunaut you found another good point without even knowing it.
    In 1.04 you had many more Options as Onos for the Upgrades.
    Nowadays anything other than an Cele/regen Onos is suicide.
    Where has all the variety gone ??

    Why do we ALL have to suffer for the needs and wants of a few?

    Can someone not make the game customizable by the server owner?

    i.e. let us actually/really tweak things like how much armor and health and damage things do.

    The skill.cfg for example should actually affect the server settings (tweaking this and running with drawdamage on shows it doesn't)

    As for lerk spikes, there are many mods out there that hand that back. Lerk bite however doesn't go away.

    I'd love to be able to turn settings on / off at will. It will end a mojaroity of trolls careers.

    I must admit to one erk, Devour .. WTH were people smoking when they made this? LOL seems few people can use it 100% of the time and they never miss. I'd like to be able to make it so that devour knobbled the ability to run off as they are now dragging a heavy inside (cue intel music), but I do NOT want to ask for this to be mainstream.

    I want it for myself and I want it now (as this game is soo much freaking fun) but do NOT want to have 'All or Nothing' which is what we get when we ask for these things.

    1.04 was glitchy, 3.0b5 is also glitchy, but its head and shoulders over 1.04 for fun

    I know the game is free, but running a server is NOT FREE. No you foolish troll, I am not demanding people do my bidding for free, just pointing out that although the game is free, $$$'s are spent to host it and this money is in the $100s per month (Yupe, 99.9% of players are soo clueless they think bandwidth is cheap) and its the people helping server admins cover the costs who need to be kept happy.

    At the moment, they are happy with the knowledge that beta6 is being worked on, but how many times can I tell them the same lie "It will be better in the next version, honest ™" ?

    I'd sooner ask for more control of the cvars and making skill.cfg actually do something as well as pointing out that if all the abilities were availiable, but turned off as default and require the server operator to rtfm to configure their servers as communities desire them, trolls like the guy who started this thread would have -2 legs to stand on.

    Great game, I've played since 1.04 (got the game on a cover disk) well before I ever had high speed access and I will continue to play while the game continues to impress me with the hidden deepths <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Nothin' wrong with CS.

    Throughout EVERY version I have seem complaints about balance, its still going on. With every update one side becomes more/less powerful, and then everyone complains. Then we have another update.

    It is a neverending cycle in the search for a perfect game - enjoy it while it lasts. Sooner or later the devs might find the key to perfection. Then no more change.

    Change makes things interesting, without it I'd have been bored of NS long ago.

    The orginal poster, knowledgeful or not, does have a point. Beta 1 was quite a jolly ol' time. It did not need a complete overhaul of the entire system, like it was given. Quite pointless really <!--emo&::lerk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/lerk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='lerk.gif' /><!--endemo--> In addition, the game has had no real improvments since then, just minor balance changes combined with cosmetic changes.
