    I'm pretty sure Hellspawn is making his model from this concept:
    Not that it makes such a big differance though.

    Edit: Correct |Owen|.
    I just posted it so people wouldnt flame Hellspawn for not making it identical to Drake's concept.
    And for those who aint like that, might get surprised and wonder why Hellspawns model doesnt look accurate to Drake's concept. And the concept would probably crawl up here sooner or later anyway.
  • BAshhBAshh Join Date: 2003-08-26 Member: 20222Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
    you're right it doesnt make a difference, for it's damn near the same thing; minor edits.

    welcome back, btw.

    blatent theft of drakey tbh... but it's not even to do with the modelling contest other than the fact that one of the models is a drake concept... i think we should try and keep things on track before there's a flame war in here, because i know how certain individuals feel about eachother, lets keep calm people.
    On a side note, fearfisch's desert eagle for the winnar, it's just sexy

    lol. I like all the versions that have been made from the original concept. I just happened to prefer to do the one meph posted because it was something different from the conventional ones I do. Interesting design and a strange ejection port that I'm still trying to figure how to work.

    I guess I am seeing one of the worse sides of this community....b***hyness.

    Look, my personal opinion is that concepts are an idea. We share those ideas so that others can take from, develop, create, and expand upon our idea, making it better (hopefully). To say that someone is stealing the idea is ignorant. Truth be told, look at most of the guns on the market. Lots of them look SIMILAR to other guns on the market. Ideas can't be owned by anyone, and we should keep them that way. To complain because its not the exact concept but very similar, etc, etc, is ignorant.

    <!--emo&::siege::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/siege.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='siege.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    As far as I have seen, Meph said in his very first post about this model that he believed it was based off one of Drakes concepts, which as you can see, wasn't Drake's concept, but Twiggy's. I dont see him complaining, and maybe that is because he understands my previous statement. Above and beyond that, you can plainly see that Meph's version of the concept states 'Original Concept by Drake and Twiggy'.

    ((<!--emo&::hive::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/hive5.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='hive5.gif' /><!--endemo-->))

    E: BTW--If I made a concept, and my concept ended up being modeled and turned out better, even though different, than I modeled it, I'd use thier model.

    btw drake sez he doesn't mind people using his concepts as long as he gets credited so stop the bitching

    Hi, just wanted to point out that we should change the voting system to a jury. Much more fair to people who modelled "less attractive" guns. That said, some of the better looking models i've seen here have very messy meshes, and aren't really well done. Just look nice.

    The jury should be made of very skilled modellers who know what they're doing. Models simply cannot be judged by looks alone. That is totally unfair. If "normal" people can vote, this competition is totally unfair to people who put much time to guns that don't look good to the majority(more unique guns usually) but are very well modelled. They should judge the actual technique, the cleanliness of the mesh, the poly waste AND finally the looks. However, most people only care about the looks.

    So, comment away.

    Most people on NS know what they are talking about, with the exception of a few. If your model doesnt look good, then the chances are it wasnt modelled well in the first place.

    Even ugly guns look good when they've been modelled well. Flakk shows that with that Mat 49 D he's just done, its ugly as sin, but he's a good modeller and it looks sweet.
  • DJPygonDJPygon Join Date: 2004-09-29 Member: 31997Members
    i agree to disagree. Poly structure isn't a key selling point for an in-game model, imo. Poly waste, poly count vs detail (which somewhat uses poly structure), and look are.

    On top of that, what would be the guidelines for what is considered waste? Only polys that the same basic structure could be achieved without? Polys that you think are waste because you could have modeled it with less? Too many polys used to create what the author wanted to be a smooth surface?

    What about structure? Many people use different types of editing in modeling (poly, mesh, etc). Not to mention different methods (box, planar, etc) and beyond that different types of the methods (vertex, edge, extrude, etc etc).

    The problem with getting 'only people who are good at modeling' is that they only see the best in the way they would model it, and the way they think it should be modeled. If you use planar modeling, you will call my box modeling crap (for example). Even though your planar model would look crappy to me, and mine crappy to you, but they both may be in reality equal (again, example).

    Anyway, I agree there should be some terms on how they are judged. I dont think one person can be impartial, and I dont know that 'normal' people OR 'skilled modelers' can be fair.

    I'm sure there are people around the world that would look at any one of our models and call them crap.

    I actually posted this for Flakk, i know he's going to take part in this competition and i also know how he likes to model ugly guns. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Anyway, even if my "points of judging the model" are wrong, a voting system is still unfair and can be manipulated easily.

    Electoral college, maybe? Entire community votes, then this jury of yours can base their decision on both popular opinion and their own. Possibly set a minimum number of electoral votes, and if it isn't met, the jury discusses the **** out of the models until a (relatively) clear winner is chosen.
  • DJPygonDJPygon Join Date: 2004-09-29 Member: 31997Members
    This is true, an open voting system could easily be manipulated. I think combination of the two would be best. IE: each of the modelers that entered can cast one vote for the model they think is best, and then a couple of people picked because they can be impartial would be able to vote, their votes being weighted in such a way as to not overpower the votes of the modelers. I'd be willing to not submit a model and be impartial if need be. I think the breakdown would be:
    Modelers: 1 vote
    Judges: 2 votes (either one for two models if they think its a tie, or two for one model if they think its a winner).

    I think 3 or 4 impartial judges would be best when combined with the modelers own votes (ie if everyone votes for thier own model, they votes are null, but some modelers will vote for others peoples models)

    On top of that, I think that at this point we should stop accepting new entrants, (not new models, but new modelers) so that there isn't a rush of one of the modelers friends to join in so they can cast a vote for that modeler.

    Seems fair to me?
