Needles...

Hundreds and hundreds of needles slowly making their way to your restrained body. No matter how much you tug and wretch yourself you can't evade your fate, and all of them stick into your body, each extracting just ever so slowly every drop of blood from your body... and between every needle, a vibrating device to agitate your flesh. Sitting there in agony, as you go into shock from over-stimulation your nervous-system melts as the needle points SNAP and ShAtTeR into several sharP peaces within your flesh, all the while the vibrators agitate your muscles, causing them to spasm and destroy the needles even more.

Oh, wait, that's my horrible way to die...

being blindfolded and then having to listen to everything around you... hours stretching into an eternity of blindness... and then hearing a confirmation or a command or a go-ahead for someone to shoot you.

I would freak. People might give you crap about dying with dignity and what not, but that kind of crap just isn't going to happen as long as I can still move my arms and legs and breathe. At least if I could spit blood in the face of the shooter I would be happy.

Slowly dying over 80 years from a combination of secondhand smoke, residual pollution from greedy corporations that don't give a crap about you, and the illnesses that come with aging, all while living an unfullfilling life wracked with the emotional pain of knowing your whole life has been, in the end, entirely detrimental to every living thing on this planet.

Getting stretched to death on a rack would suck too.

Dragging a giant plus shaped block of wood through a village of people who claimed to have loved you but do nothing to help you because they are terrified of retribution. Others among them downright hating you because they were coerced into thinking you are a madman, even after you tried your hardest to teach them to love one another. Then having spikes driven through your arms and legs attaching you to the plus shaped piece of wood while it is raised upwards on a hill overlooking your beloved town, as the people you care for can only watch helplessly and weep for forgiveness because they could do nothing. Watching your mother and your closest friends and confidants lose all the hope you had worked so hard to place in their lives. All this is done because the town leaders were jealous of how much the people believed in you. The last thing you wonder as you close your eyes for what you think is the last time is; where does Dad stand in all this?

In contrast to that, a nice way to die would be with your closest friends and followers around you, asking what are they going to do without you. But you tell them that you know your time is up and that they must be their own lights and their own refuges and that death was natural and must be accepted. One must take the middle path of living and not wander into decadence or desperation, you say. Then finally, smiling the smile you saw on the face of a holy man, the fourth of four scenes that awakened you to the real world outside of the lies your father constructed, you turn over on your side and sleep the last sleep, knowing that you have made the world a better place by teaching ethics to what would one day be millions.

My apologies if the references annoy anyone. Don't take them more seriously than necessary. And if you just don't have that sort of control, let me know and I will remove it.

Ever read Kafka's "In the Penal Colony"? We did in 14th grade english... extremely gruesome and very famous.

The Harrow is an extraordinarily elegant instrument: the condemned man lies face-down on a Bed, while a complex system of needles inscribes the commandment he has broken (e.g. HONOR THY SUPERIORS) on his back. The needles pierce deeper and deeper until the prisoner dies. In the process of dying, however, the condemned man finally understands the nature of justice and his punishment. His face is transfigured, a sight edifying to all those who watch. Having all your individual fingers cut off one by one then your toes and finally your limbs while being resuscitated with enough blood and drugs to tell your mind that you are all fine. Once all has been done and you have been put on reserve for some time in recovery you are put on a solid steel table grim with the stain of blood. You are forced to look at the gruesome canvas work and forthwith showed a portrayal of people like you previously being tortured - eviscerated and lacerated in the most brutal ways possible - and moreso actual cabinet cases of preserved body parts all poetically sewn together with genitalia from the animal of a sable. The people doing this to you proceed to slowly ever slowly strap you down and henceforth gouge out each orb or the eyeball if you like to call it more plainly. This process thus continues for an age not known, perhaps a few weeks at the least, but I have heard from others who have come out deformed by such cruelities that the such last often a year or so. Of course there is more than what has been said; people often are taken to the extent of being flayed, having songs of ashley simpson blaring in the phone. Ah! But what as has been said repetatively over in other forms is that the final act involves having your body either through personal choice being burned alive or having another series of tortures withal by having forks and spoons bluntly digging away your gutterals and the more visceral parts of the body for an extension of time that the Japanese Lao have been taught so gracefully. I could imagine that the last thing remembered would be the breath of music and slain men; well darkness is light and light becomes a haze of red fog anyways.

Having children that only see you as a death benefit waiting to happen
Grandchildren who never see you unless it's christmas or a birthday
having your nearest and dearest die from a horrible illness that slowly consumes their body, A cure is around, but the manufacturer charges $2000 a vial (it costs somewhere around $.20 to make the serum) and your HMO refuses to allow you to get it. As your loved one slowly withers and dies, you vow never to love another, so you spend the next 60 years in solitude, realizing in your older years that she never wanted you to be this miserable. So you go out to find a new soul mate. You find someone that you think is in love with you, you get married. a hour after your wedding, pulling up to your hotel, you leave to get the luggage, walking past the car window, you overhear her on the phone with another man talking dirty to one another and overhear her talk about you as if you were a walking checkbook. You confront her and she denies everything. you drink some wine with her, as a gesture of good faith, and you pass out. you wake up lying in a hospital bed, unable to move anything and hooked to a resperator. your new "Wife" walks in and tells the doctor's to pull the plug, your children enter and stop her from pulling the plug, and they send the doctors away. your newe wife and your kids talk how your HMO is covering the hospital bill and how your pension and your social security are helping to make their lives richer. as you start to hate your self asorbed family, your youngest grandsonknocks over your IV drip and it shorts out the monitors for your medical status, but by some fluke they still are displaying data. Your family then feeds you a solution without any doctor's knowelege and then amends your medication chart with another chemical that when added with the stuff that they just gave you, creates a ultradense foam, that would spread out slowly from your stomach and cause you to explode like a pimple. They go into gruesome detail and then date the delivery of the chemical a full 2 weeks from now, leaving you, fully concious and knowing that you are going to die, but unable to do anything to stop it.

Someone is using a small, rusty drill, to drill many, many small holes in your body, while you lay there, paralyzed on the cold hard concrete floor.
Seeing and feeling everything, but not able to make single move
To keep the blood from coming out he the fills the holes with hot wax.
When he thinks, there are enough holes in your chest, your arms, your legs and your stomach, he fetches a nice, long, sharp needle sticks it ups in one of your veins and injects a slighlty acidic, slightly salty liqid.
While all your nerves are screaming in angonizing pain you get thirsty as hell.
But wait, there is a glass of water right besides you.
With the last of your streng you rally your muscles to turn you around, picking the glass and taking a big gulp.
To late you recognize that there is acid in this glass, too.
You roll around the floor, while the acid eats your tounge and all the flesh in your mouth and throat, finally melting the bones to your head and finally the world fades to black.

Strangling yourself, or just holding your breath until you die.

Physically impossible, yes.

A horrible way to die? Inquisition-style. Have your arms and legs bound, and a large, inverted bowl is placed over rats on your bare belly. A fire is lit on top of the bowl. The rats start panicking, and they know the only way out of the searing heat is to burrow through your naked flesh...

Alternatively, anything involving large numbers of insects freaks me out too.

Accidently staple-gunning your hand to a railing at a construction site while no one is around, and the floor your on caves in, and your hand is ripped out of the stable and the back of your head lands on an overturned board filled with rusty nails that peirce your skull.

Post something that could actually happen, people, I think I find them more interesting than the long written out tortue ecsue types of deaths that could never actually happen unless someone was demended and crazy and decided to kidnap you, then lock you up in a basement filled with lemons and fat ladies.

Hmm....being put in a pit tied up, and having a HUUUUUGE boulder slowly crushing yu from above, until it finally squishes you. With today's construction equipment it's possible.

And for a not-so serious but still rather painful....THINKING TO DEATH!

I'm sure I read somewhere about some torture method that involved tying someone down spread-eagled-style with sharpened bamboo growing underneath of you, bamboo grows really slow and over a period of days (possibly weeks, or even months) they pierce into your body. Eventually killing you
