The current manual is also wrong. Part of my pledge to you woudl be to update the manual is such a contradicting change did arise. The changes probably won't have any major effect on the backstory but even if they did it wouldn't be so hard with advance warning to conveniently make the contradictions disappear and new information corrected to the story.

Again I'm not trying to change the game using the backstory and logic of the science anymore like I was but rather willing to compromise and change the story so it simply illustrates the observed phenomina in the game and gives you, the community, something to be proud of. You're right at first I was toting an attitude that since it was written it must be but after lerking in the fan fiction forum enough I cound a similar case where an author was slapped with a gameplay > backstory retoric and he got really bothered by it. You see, the author cannot change his story on a dime, futhermore the worst thing for a author is to have to not only rewrite but contradict their own story. It makes it come off so hypocritical sounding. But in spite or this I'm willing to compromise. Primarily because I'm going to wager that if it hasn't changed since the very first version, then it is sticking around. We also ahve to remember that the subject material the Kharaa nd the Human technology is subject to changes in it's world too so it is easier to say "the situation has changed, these are our latest observations." The most major change which has stalled my progress in this manual is the whole debat on chained/uchained chambers and the RFK system. The RFK makes very little logical sense and that quantity of energy and matter requires some serious transportation methods. In spite of this I am a master at creative solutions and I will find a way to explain it. You haven't seen what I've done with Xzianthia and unfortunately you can't at the moment so I have nothing to give to prove to you that I'm the best at it.

Regardless, sudden gameplay changes in minor areas won't be a problem. And while you tote that you can make anything bizzare happen for gameplay, we all remember how Nemesis Zero expressed disgust at the lack of artisitic integrity (speaking of consistency) in SciFi today. (he was refering to George Lucas I believe) If Flayra believes somethign similar then I can double my wager on my gamble that NS isn't going to change a whole lot and thus is a more than stable enough environment for me to illustrate the finer details and science behind what you observe. And in the end everyone wins. However, if you decide that the ability to be free of all artistic intergity is invalid, (and that's fine too, but Sven Co-op isn't a popular mod because of it) the by all means let's even reduce the inforamtion we have so we can distance our selves from the immersion and the qaulity of the NS world and pursue this ideal of total inconsistency and randomness.

Am I making any sense? (I'm getting the feeling people will fall asleep while reading this)

I'm just that we are taking the guess work out of why something works the way it does.. Now in my fictional story I can't talk about a USA or Canada or anything else in the future, because my hands have been tied by a history already written...

The same thing is going to happen here, instead of allowing an author to be creative and create something unique and wonderful, his hands will be tied by the scientific explanations of fictional things..

Now I have to re-work my story to work it into someone else's "future" not my vision..

    Is that fair?

Oh come on zunni. You can always use the bacterium and nanites clause at anytime. (As im sure you already know)

I think that the manual could have a disclamer saying: Please note, due to the nature of the Kharaa They researve the right to change at any time
And since NS if first contact, this could be all the information that they have gathered THUS far.

I mean if the khrahaa were truely adaptable super style. Then couldn't the skulks just be giant blobs of gew that eat marines like a giant ameba?

I mean, you could even be more creative by building on and expanding. If something is limiting you just change it by adding a forth hive, or a new chamber, etc etc. or even adding in something special.

x5 has been using an applied sience method to try and tie down the NS universe to reality. Any joe blow can make up stuff, but it takes an intellegent mind to properly tie fiction with science.

    In other words.
X5 is trying to use knowledge of today to figure out the scifi of tomorrow. In an attempt to add more immersian and realness to NS

but in reality, can we not make this thread into a flame war. kthx

erm......what happened to rioting nerds reply? heh, I guess someone deleted it. Thank god

You misunderstand me, I'm talking about the more mundane parts of story writing including things about locations and the general state of the world today..

One piece of fiction written by someone else makes my vision (read my story thread for example) of the future obsolete. So therefore I am limited in what I can write about because of this.

As I stated a while ago, I am not opposed to X5's technical manual.. I think it would be really cool as a fictional addendum to the manual...

But it should not be included in the NS canon as fact.

    Again just my 2 cents..
