Cleaning A Muvo?

CobyCoby Join Date: 2002-11-11 Member: 8210Members
Hello there, Im here to persude an answer for a mind boggling trouble o'mine. You see, I have my Creative MuVO nx here which is about, I don't know, 3 months old now. This little bugger sure has proved itself to be worth the money but there's just one thing that's really really really really really annoying to me: the 0,01mm area between a glass screen and the lcd screen has gathered a bollock loads of hair and muckus, even pocket lint! Now the question remains: how on earth do I cleanse one?! I can't get it out by blowing air, nor do my nails are able to scrape them out.. the hair is right in the middle of the glass, looking like as if it is splintered! And there seems to be like... dirt...

I dunno, if anyone's got an expertise on this subject please be kind enough to help me out here a little.. I don't know if dirt is a matter big enough to have it changed at the store ( I still have the receipt left for warranty )

And if you thought to yourself "What's a muvo"

Thanks in advance!

    That. Was. Awesome. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    And on a serious note, if you're comfortable with it, you could open the thing carefully (take the cover off), since I assume that the little glass thing is attached to the cover and the actual LCD is underneath, on the circuit.

    That way, carefully clean the LCD and glass.

    Yeah I'd do that.. but Im afraid the glue or w/e holding it will be gone, along with the warranty!

    I thought a few screws held it together?

    Nope, no screws. (see pic)

    I don't think there is a way unless you gather enough compressed air?

    Anyone else worried by this?

    Someone had to say it and I was well beaten <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Compressed air would be my call as well if you can't get the casing off it.

    Related but slightly OT, how big is that thing and how much did it set you back, I'm looking for a decent quality MP3 player with high capacity that is cheaper than an iPod...

    The Flash-based MuVo's top off at 256MB, while the HDD MuVos are 5GB and are about $200 US (as opposed to $250 for an iPod Mini 4GB).

    As for how to clean it, no idea. I had a Nomad IIc (biggest. mistake. evar.) and it had crap on the screen. It was like it was attracted to the screen, since not even compressed air could get it out.

    I think the question is why are you getting hair in your MuVo.
  • CobyCoby Join Date: 2002-11-11 Member: 8210Members
    I honestly have no idea. I had to take my first muvo back after 2 months because of some little problems with the headphone jack being a bit sketchy.. and then when I got this new one, it lasted about a week and there was (AND STILL IS) hair under the glass! I mean WTH. And compressed air works nil. Tried it.

    Here's a pic of how my "readable LCD screen" looks like:
    <img src='http://www.kotiposti.net/taavitsainen/muut/muvo.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
    That white crack there is hair. And the rest is just some other poo. ARGH.

    That's annoying, I'm forever having to take my phone to bits cos friggen dust is always getting under the screen somehow <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> As for that big old hair in there I would say that must have been already in there to start with.

    Back on topic take it appart and clean it out an be done with it then throw your warrenty away. That's what I would do.

    OMG OMG UPDATE! I got my fingernail under the "glass" and pulled a little, and it came up after the glue gave up! Yay! I opened it up a little like a lid, blew the dust and poo away and that's it! Then I just had to align the glue "lines" back with a tooth pick and press it back to it's place.. WOHOO! *donces* (case closed)
