    They seem to be in no hurry to release, after all only totally irrelevant things like hitbox code and special fix are in it. So instead of rushing something so totally irrelevant to the competitive scene out the window, majorly important things like hand-grenade pickups after death and another new JP sound (this time it will resemble toasters more) will be added first. This process will take about 6-8 months, at the end of which we anticipate it to still suck **** - but not be quite as bad as the few last minute change to the release client, like a high pitched audosnippet of JarJar binks whenever someone ignites a jetpack or the new map ns_megaaltair, now with lower fps, worse lighting and crappier gameplay.

    Oh, and ns_veil and eclipse still won't be changed. Thats just too much effort.

    Lol.

    I expect it will be done as soon as October 25th arives, seeing as it is my birthday, and the NS team cares a lot about me. I am completely confident in the dev team's ability to release a solid balance patch by then <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

    Oh, and I am thoroughly excited for the new jetpack sound.

    Setting Saltz' highly informed, argumentatively striking, and nonetheless humbly voiced points of criticism aside for a moment, there are some very hefty balance changes in B6's package, and there's pretty much only one way of ensuring they work: Stress testing. We've almost got anything we want to have in the new version coded out - the release date depends largely on how close our idea of how it could work out is to reality. Sadly, few plans survive the first contact between a LMG bullet and a Skulk.

    Let me help you out here - my (humorously stated) gripe lies largely with the exclusion of a large part of the total developement teams effort in the release clients (the total developement team would include mappers and testers as well as everyone else).

    If for some reason pooping in these peoples faces to you is perfectly justified because these people are unpaid labour, and the end result is hence free of charge, then be my guest. In the meantime I'll so frivolously demand that the output matches all valid efforts made by the team, and not simply have half of it cropped out.

    Everyone needs to keep their pance on, the next build is being worked on and is coming along fine, the little things are being ironed out, and a lot of balancing still needs to be done...

    Having that said know this, the PT's are revitalized and bringing the game to the tippy top of its potential. And to even be playtesting in this beta, as a member of the general community is a PRIVILAGE everyone should be thankful to be a part of it at all. NS is a great game and it is only getting better. The dev team is working its lovehandles off to provide us with a full version that will make public and competitive play the best it has ever been. That however takes A LOT of work so please give it just a few more days before tripping about how long it will take.

    As much as the game is free and it is very good game... It doesnt mean its perfect and free from critism...

    Its been several weeks since any offical news from the devs.... despite the fact that there are major issuess with this release that have already been fixed just not released. The devs made this game 1000x better then i could but its still not as good as it could be IMHO.

    *EDIT* I wrote a tonne of this actually everything under the - and then re-read the original title of the post... So I thought I better answer the question

    To answer the original question, like all software development teams, giving a timeline is difficult because we have no idea how long the testing/balancing of changes will take.. I've also stated that I will NOT release a date unless I'm 100% confident in us reaching that date, and I know Nem agrees with that. We have been late before (B5 cough) and we won't disappoint the fans of NS again. What I can say is the post mentioned below should at least let you know where in the cycle we are, and you should be able to extrapolate a rough idea of where things should fit..

    -
    At this stage of the development "cycle" we are working on getting some things ironed out..

    I did make a minor announcement here: <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=83159' target='_blank'>http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...showtopic=83159</a>

    That should give you some additional information as to where we are (not that Nem's answer was missing anything)

    As things get finalized and working as we want them to, then expect the amount of information that is released to increase dramatically..

    We want to ensure that when we do post information that it's more than just cosmetic changes and that we get some meat/potatoes items in as well. This way people start having an idea of where the build is going, and I don't get 50 pm's stating "OMG, you are fixing X and Y when this balance issue Z hasn't been looked at???" If I can say "Balance issue Z is being addressed by these fixes/changes, and oh BTW, here are Screenies for X and Y" it really rounds out the news and gives a better overall picture of where the release is headed.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Its been several weeks since any offical news from the devs....<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Considering the last big "news" item was the release of B5 (on Sept 3), I'd say a 5 week silence is more than fair.. And when you consider in that time that we not only came up with a plan of action, list of features/fixes, engineered people into new positions and are still making significant dents against that same forementioned list?? All while holding down school or full-time careers, I think we are doing pretty damn well..

    I understand it sucks not seeing anything from me.. I know I am your new drug <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    But hearing "Nothing new, still deciding what's going into the build" for 2 weeks would drive me crazy and is not be helpful at all to you (It didn't take 2 weeks BTW, but it's a valid example). The news post I made today was similar in scope, something to let people know that we hadn't packed up and gone home.. That code has been changed and we are working out the kinks and even that post feels a little empty, and I expect some backlash since it contains no detials..

    Anyway, just my feelings.. Thought I'd share
