<div class="IPBDescription">Hmmm I Wonder</div> I wonder if NS will ever come out in the shop because they have so many beta's.
Why dont they do what CS did and just put it on the shelf and when they find a bug they make you download the update. But im still gessing it wont be out for a while now.

    NS will not go retail.
If NS2 gets made then it will probably go retail (ns2, not ns:s).
    have a nice day.

Because NS is free, and adding all that packaging, marketing and art development time for box art is a waste..

I agree. It is too late to get NS Retial. But I see it as possible for NS Source and NS2.

    If there will be a NS:Source, I won't doubt a NS2 though. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Seem to remember either the PC Gamer or PC Zone review of HL2 mentioned NS:Source. I also interpreted the comment as NS:Source being an OFFICIAL mod, yes that's right, they used the term OFFICIAL.

    Wrong, methinks. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

er... ? A waste of what, exactly? The design staff already works for free (?), you aren't making money on the product... I'm curious what it'd be "wasting". Time? Effort? None of that has directly paid off (not in financial terms).

    time
    money

    yah.

it costs alot to get a game published.

not to mention that Flayra would probably have to sell NS to Valve inorder to be able to publish it (something he will never do).

combine that with HL about to become 'outdated' with the release of HL2.

And Flayra has better thigns to do (getting UWE's first game made/published)

Yeah. Ask Flayra, or anyone else that may be on the check(like the manager guy): They wouldn't do this for free. NS has become to big not to donate 100% time and effort to.

Gah, I swear NS:Source was mentioned, it was talking about the lack of standard multiplayer for HL2, then said theres still lots of official mods to come out, and I'm sure NS:Source was included.

Gonna try find this online lol

EDIT: Narrowed it down to PC Zone, I think. Or my imagination. Anyone quote from it? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Eugh, I pretty much give in. If someone has the PCZone issue, look through it and quote the bit I'm thinking of - think it was in a box on one of the left hand pages.

Don't post a link to any scans, I doubt thats allowed.
  • WolvWolv Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 56Members
I'm sure a scan of just the bit you're interested in would be OK, should pass as a reasonable quote then.
  • phunktionphunktion Join Date: 2003-11-14 Member: 22883Members, NS1 Playtester, Reinforced - Shadow, WC 2013 - Silver
to continue the rumours and speculation. i found this information on the halflife2.net forums.

    "SDK Soon...

In a recent email i sent to gabe he said.

"We're testing it with two MOD teams now"

So expect a release very soon "

    heres the thread
    <a href='http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=42330&page=1&pp=15' target='_blank'>http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread...30&page=1&pp=15</a>

if any mod is deserving of it, its NS.
sven coop and insurgency have said they do not have it. plus nem0 talking about and NDA the dev team has signed. i'd say ns:source is highly likely and hopefully not too far off. lets hope

Yes, Alien Cow is right, PCZone did mention NS:Source while discussing HL2's lack of DM. I think it said 'high possibility' but I can't quite remember. I'd buy it on my lunch but I've got a subscription and as anxious as I am to own that HL2 review (I've already got the PCGamer one) I don't fancy owning two copies, espcially as mine will be sitting on my doormat right now.

what are you talking about? it is the source engine, thats what its called. we didnt make it up.

    next, your points:

    a) of course its gonna be called ns:source if its on the source engine.
    b) dont know what you mean by this but if you mean to take the ns_ mode out of the game.... sigh
    c) again what the hell do you mean with this?

Well, I think that would be nice to maybe attract more people to the so called 'scene' but if NS:2 comes out I'd buy it in a hardbeat. And personally if it does come out for retail, it would deserve all the money it gets, this game is a terrific idea and should succeed!

    *Ahem*
    *Reads aloud*

<b>"What you do get is Source conversions of all the official Half-Life multiplayer stuff, starting with Counter Strike: Source, to be followed shortly by Day of Defeat: Source and eventually Team Fortress: Source. (Maybe even Natural Selection: Source from what we hear.)"</b>

    *Ahem*

Thank you, one and all. First time I read it, I thought it implied NS:S was official, as it lists them with the official ones - they probably didn't mean it, but still, NS got a mention! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Refering to NS coming out with HL2: I highly doubt that will happen since Valve have already released what will be included in each edition of HL2. NS wasn't mentioned.
