Just finished watching The Sopranos, much more interesting than the debate.
I will say, for both sides, this debate was a good one. There wasn't any dirty politics, and both sides came right out and said what their stances were. Its good that they didn't give the American people the usual runaround bs, that they felt how important the people felt this debate was. Both did very, very well.
In my opinion (and the opinion of almost everyone who watched this that had an open mind when it started), Kerry really gained some strength by letting people finally know WTH he stands for. He was pretty clear and concise w/ his message, and he shut the hell up when the light turned red (which Bush has a problem doing a few times)
There were a couple times when I felt Bush was actually about to punch Kerry though.
I think one thing we can agree on is that the green/yellow/red light system is a good idea. We need that **** at the award ceremonies and graduations too. :P

Heh. Personally, I feel that Bush looked like a whiny five year old out there, struggling for answers without his entourage to give the monkey another peanut. And as for the Kerry 'vietnam' thing... yes, they should have ended that debate as per the rulings. But I can understand where he's coming from. If you're going into a debate about war as a veteran of one of the most unpleasant incidents in even semi-recent history... and your opponent is a former member of the national guard (a post his father's connections placed him into, given that he scored 1% above FAILING on the aptitude tests, and bypassed more-qualified individuals), as well as a deserter (AWOL nine months == desertion) and a cokehead (George W. Bush: Proudly Drug-Free since 1974!)... I'd mention my service history often, too.
Hopefully the debates will open a few republicans' eyes about the monkey they intend to vote for.

That much is apparent. Also, that Bush doesn't need Congress' stamp to go to war.. after all, at the start of this, he'd started sending troops in before approval was given. Technically he's guilty of treason. The permission was given afterward thanks to the 'vote yes or you're unpatriotic!!!!11!!eleven' approach of fear and derision tactics that the administration took to, but meh.

I liked whenever Bush said something about "How Kerry is going to pay for" this stuff. I always imagined him just throwing up his arms and saying "Come on! We all know *I* spent all the money! Where's Kerry gonna get it?"
And I also enjoyed how CSpan was the only network that showec BOTH of the candidates all the time. I swear I think I saw Kerry just scribbling on his paper angrily, and Bush drawing a Turkey Hand at one point.
Everyone remember the episode of family guy where the salesman sells Peter volcano insurnace? (I believe it was called "Wish upon a weinstein) Anyway He meets a jewish accountant and he gets him his money back. Peter tries to talk to the salesman and the accountant ends up saying "Here, play with this" The accountant is cheney and peter was bush in my eyes. God that was great
The composure of Kerry was MUCH better. Bush didn't seem this bad in the 2000 election... now he seems... tired. He seems sorta weary, transformed by the job if you will.
Content wise, if you get rid of all the stutters, verbal errors, etc. they seemed about equal. Kerry made some pretty silly remarks ("I will also kill a lot of terrorists") and I thought Bush held his own pretty well.
Kerry really seemed to be trying to appeal to people's emotions (with his "i talked to this soldier, this person, saw these files, and other specific examples) rather than talk of the situation as a whole.
Also, his "wrong war, in the wrong place, at the wrong time" mantra doesn't fit too well with his "I have always seen Saddam as a threat. This has never changed" line... I almost fell off my chair when he said that.
Furthermore, saying that it's the "wrong war, etc" while also saying that the troops didn't die for a mistake is really stretching it. He seemed to be trying to appeal to EVERYONE, but in the end it just seemed like a mess of logic.
I also really liked Bush's rebuttal to Kerry's "we didn't concentrate on Afghanistan" remark. People really somehow overlook this. We CAN do both at the same time. The US isn't starved for troops, but even if we were, just throwing men into an area of the globe doesn't always make a difference. Many people think that "more presence = more results" but it's probably more along the lines of a diminishing return.

and: Bush said how Poland was an essential force in Iraq, while basically Kerry insisted they weren't really that important for the instoration of a coalition.

If you're going into a debate about war as a veteran of one of the most unpleasant incidents in even semi-recent history... and your opponent is a former member of the national guard (a post his father's connections placed him into, given that he scored 1% above FAILING on the aptitude tests, and bypassed more-qualified individuals), as well as a deserter (AWOL nine months == desertion) and a cokehead (George W. Bush: Proudly Drug-Free since 1974!)... I'd mention my service history often, too.
Hopefully the debates will open a few republicans' eyes about the monkey they intend to vote for.

And I also enjoyed how CSpan was the only network that showec BOTH of the candidates all the time. I swear I think I saw Kerry just scribbling on his paper angrily, and Bush drawing a Turkey Hand at one point.

(I believe it was called "Wish upon a weinstein) Anyway He meets a jewish accountant and he gets him his money back. Peter tries to talk to the salesman and the accountant ends up saying "Here, play with this" The accountant is cheney and peter was bush in my eyes. God that was great
Content wise, if you get rid of all the stutters, verbal errors, etc. they seemed about equal. Kerry made some pretty silly remarks ("I will also kill a lot of terrorists") and I thought Bush held his own pretty well.
Kerry really seemed to be trying to appeal to people's emotions (with his "i talked to this soldier, this person, saw these files, and other specific examples) rather than talk of the situation as a whole.
Also, his "wrong war, in the wrong place, at the wrong time" mantra doesn't fit too well with his "I have always seen Saddam as a threat. This has never changed" line... I almost fell off my chair when he said that.
Furthermore, saying that it's the "wrong war, etc" while also saying that the troops didn't die for a mistake is really stretching it. He seemed to be trying to appeal to EVERYONE, but in the end it just seemed like a mess of logic.
I also really liked Bush's rebuttal to Kerry's "we didn't concentrate on Afghanistan" remark. People really somehow overlook this. We CAN do both at the same time. The US isn't starved for troops, but even if we were, just throwing men into an area of the globe doesn't always make a difference. Many people think that "more presence = more results" but it's probably more along the lines of a diminishing return.
They were afraid an actual debate may have broken out if they let him in.

I was thinking about the one with the nuclear holocaust and when Peter laughs at Lois and says "heheheh you said Nucelar it's said Nuclear the S is silent"
and: Bush said how Poland was an essential force in Iraq, while basically Kerry insisted they weren't really that important for the instoration of a coalition.
