<div class="IPBDescription">Dosen't suck!?</div> I was totally expecting this game to suck. Badly. But after getting it I am totally persuaded otherwise. Its as if it were battlefield...but done RIGHT. It is very fun and I'd suggest this to everyone. I was thinking it was be like the battlefield mod , but Its totally different. The core gameplay is the same, capture and advance, but it is ALOT faster and its possible to rack up alot of kills very quickly. Vehicles are amazingly easy to control and fun to use. You can even dodge and roll, use third person view, its fantastic. I had to stop myself for a few minutes and take a break off it and write this. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

It sounds fun, but I haven't seen any ingame screenshots or gameplay stories.. Care to help us out a little?

Does it have multiplayer? What's it like?

OK. Heres a screenshot, my favorite place to play is the naboo fields...so you can own the clone soldiers AND jar jar's family. You can play as either the robot army or jarjar's army of crap. Heres me and a squad owning some robots. You can play either Clone Wars era, or Empire civil war era. Both are fun. Very versatile. Not enough tickets however, battles end quickly.

Wow, that looks amazing. I'll have to get a demo for my new computer, and test it out - see if i want to buy the real thing.

It actually is. Red arrows= enemy Green=friendlies. Circle things= Control points. white objects= vehicles. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> This game also has alot of atmosphere. Like when an AT-ST is walking near you, THE RADAR VIBRATES.

I don't see why people equate lots of kills to lots of fun...

Meh, I read Tycho's review at PA, and I'll wait for a demo. Fighting legions of stupid doesn't sound like a lot of fun. In a month where Evil Genius, Warhammer 40K: Dawn Of War and Rome: Total War are coming out, I don't have money to spare on B grade games.

"Fighting legions of stupid", eh? Well, I don't know why anyone would buy this to play alone with/against CPU-controlled opponents... this game was made for multiplayer.

Well, this is what he says at PA:

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Sounds good so far, you're thinking. We haven't talked about the AI yet. The AI is as dumb as paint.

The fill up the levels on or offline, making it appear visually that you are a member of a grand force. A grand stupid force, the 433rd Idiot Legion, a futuristic jobs program for social detritus. You can't be proud of the **** these guys do. You'd better run your **** right over to those speeder bikes, because one of those **** is already on his way and he'll put it to no good purpose. They don't mind getting out if you want to get in, that's nice. But the all the livelong day they just do the stupidest ****, and for all the epic trappings and swelling music you are shooting fish in a barrel and that doesn't make a person feel heroic. When I heard about the special units for each side, the "heroes," I think I assumed that these were player controllable Super Classes that might be earned in some way. No, they're just more idiots - except it's an idiotic version of Darth Vader or something else you used to think was cool. Darth Vader in a corner, running, forever running, swinging his lightsaber at enemies which either do not exist or are so small we probably don't need to worry about them.

It's possible that there's a server out there with No Heroes and No Artificially Intelligent cannon fodder that avoids these complaints, which would create an experience a little more like what we're used to on the PC where there is no shortage of good capture and hold games. I was pretty excited about Battlefront, you'll soon see the ads I accepted for it in that idyllic period before release - I'm going to try it on one of the other platforms and see if it's a better fit before I give up on it.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I wait for a demo. I usually feel the same way as Tycho does about a game (apart from <i>Myst</i>), and I pick up an undertone which suggests dissatifaction. I'll see how it goes.

If it had come out in August, I'd have probably snapped it up.

You realize that all Star Wars games don't automatically suck. TIE Fighter, Dark Forces 1 and 2, Knights of the Old Republic, and Rogue Squadron were all game of the year material, and I know for sure that at least 3 of them won it. Star Wars games don't universally blow.

If you're replying to me - as I've said, it's more to do with the competition (WH:40K and Rome come out this friday here in the UK) than because SW:B is a bad game. It just might not be good enough to get at the moment.

Its okay. Not great, but okay. The AI is, as Tycho said, dumber than a dead fish. The graphics are nice however. It'll tide me over until Tuesday when Evil Genius is released, and I can spend weeks plotting the overthrow of the world's governments <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Has anyone said SW games automatically suck?

    Don't think so.

Regardless, I think I'll stick with Galactic Conquest for free. When I have SPARE cash, I might buy this... but tbh I'd rather spend my norma money on Evil Genius, or save up for nightmare of this winter where I'll see GTA, MGS3, etc...

The thread title would imply that the author was surprised that this star wars game didn't suck. Unless he really was asking a question of everybody, and none of us have been polite enough to answer it. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I love how if you are flying straight up against one of those stone piles in the Tatooine desert, you can land on the side of it, at a 90 degree angle to the ground. Hovering. Without flapping. Gravity? Bah who needs it.

A few sites gave the PC version a lower score then the consoles. The X-Box review had .1 more points then the PS2 one.

Yea I read some reviews that had the Xbox version rated higher, but I was hoping for something other than a formal review to base it on since I dont trust reviews completely. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Just out of curiosity, seeing as the main deterrent seems to be the god-awful AI.. would it be realistic to wait for a mod of the AI? Or will it be a case of "What you see is what you get"..
  • TheCheeseStandsAloneTheCheeseStandsAlone Join Date: 2003-10-18 Member: 21768Members
The AI on hard is pretty fun, however its best online. Then again I keep finding myself doing single player D:
