LEAK: Planned Bush Speech to NAACP Revealed
(2004-07-13) -- Before President George Bush made his final decision not to speak at this week's convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), he and his speech-writing staff prepared a draft of an address that he would have delivered if pressure from the media had become so intense that he had no other choice.
Here is a partial transcript of that speech, which was accidentally emailed to 1.5 million GOP supporters last night...
PRESIDENT BUSH:
"My fellow Americans, members of the NAACP, Senator Boxer. It's an honor to be with you tonight representing the political party that introduced the 1957 Civil Rights Act--which at the time was the first civil rights legislation in 82 years. Although Senator Lyndon Johnson, the Democrat from my home state, and Senator John F. Kennedy, the Democrat from my opponent's home state, both worked to prevent the full implementation of the 1957 Act, it formed the foundation upon which the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voter Rights Act still stand."
"I also represent the political party whose Congressional delegation voted overwhelmingly for the Civil Rights Act of 1964--82 percent of Republican Senators voted 'yes' and 80 percent of Republican House members approved--helping to overcome the weak support by the opposition party where only 69 percent of Democrat Senators and 61 percent of Democrat House members voted for the Act. "
"I'm also delighted to come as an ambassador from the party of Abraham Lincoln, whose emancipation proclamation officially put an end to slavery in America."
"I bring greetings from Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, who would be here tonight if they weren't so busy working to ensure peace and freedom for the oppressed people of the world. I also come to you on behalf of the thousands of men and women of color who defend freedom worldwide every day as part of our United States armed forces."
"I have come tonight to declare a new emancipation for people of color. By the authority vested in me as President of all the people of the United States I declare that all Americans are free to work for a living, free to seek education, free to worship God, free to live under the same laws to which we all submit as a peace-loving people."
"The new emancipation proclamation also states that all Americans are free to be lazy, ignorant and godless without expecting the government to come to their aid. All Americans are also free to violate our laws--after which they will receive the just consequences of their exercise of that freedom.
"The new emancipation proclamation hereby sets free those who have been held in captivity by the vain hope that government is their beneficent master. It breaks the chains that have bound men, women and children in a cycle of dependency that leads to despair."
"I declare that all Americans are free from the tyranny of special interest bosses who have become wealthy by telling others that they can't succeed in our free society. From this day forth, let every American exercise his freedom from politicians who profit by trading men's votes for men's souls, and who become rich and powerful by creating programs which keep legions of our citizens poor and powerless."
"Thank you for allowing me to address this august society of freedom-loving people tonight. I know that you join me in celebrating this new birth of freedom. God bless you, and God bless the United States of America."

So... believing in God == good. Not believing in God == bad, so don't expect any aid
Seriously, those two bits have no purpose in this speach, they mearly serve to show the administration's bias. Other than that it was alright.
Too late. Man, I should really learn to click links...
Yep-- guess people are free to be lazy and ignorant (Note: 'Ignorant' is different than 'stupid') without the government coming to their aid, even if they're in charge of it.
Edit, after further thought and an actual, out-loud chuckle:
Good lord, I am sorry, but I really would enjoy the sheer comic irony of Bush delivering a speech with this message of self-reliance and free will.
[sarcasm]
I mean, he's certainly a guy who has never relied on government intervention or special treatment-- not to get him into two ivy league universities, not to vault him over more qualified candidates into the National Guard, not to funnel investment into his failing businesses, not to tell the SEC to back off on its investigation of him, and not to allow him to claim eminent domain on others' rightfully held propery for his own personal profit. (And a large number of other examples could follow here)
[/sarcasm]
". . . . So, in summary, you should not expect special treatment based on the color of your skin. It should only be based on who your Daddy is."
That speech would have about as much resonance and sincerity as Jonathon Walker Lindh reading the 'Pledge of Allegience', or Hitler singing 'Imagine'.
Give me a break.
One moment . . . . AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Ahem. Carry on.

OH NOES!!!! He said GOD! In a political speech! Where the majority of American's believe in god! What a crappy political move!

Ahem, even though this speech is fake, I think many Atheists (like myself) would take offense at being included with the ignorant and lazy people of America. Not to mention it would be saying that anyone who doesn't believe in God is a bad person, and they shouldn't look to the government for help.

First of all, being godless as being associated as something bad - not a bad political move.
Second of all, godless can also mean without morals.

1.) Which is exactly my point, why is being godless something bad?
2.) Then he would've been better off saying something along the lines of "... and those without morals" than flat out saying "godless", as that would lead many to assume he was talking about Atheists and Agnostics.

If you hadn't noticed, this speech wasn't about being politcally correct - the idea was to offend and stur up crap. Godless is a perfect word for this. I'm not the most religous of people, but godless fits in perfectly in the entire flow of the speech.
because that "lazy, ignorant and godless" comment pisses me off. not only does it lump godless people with the lazy and ignorant, but it mentions later that they will get no federal aid... either suggesting that godless citizens are second-class citizens, or that federal aid will go to godly citizens, or both. knowing bush, probably both. then again, if it's a fake speech, never mind.
I'd also like to mention that the republican party of way-back-when is practically the opposite of what it is now, in terms of social issues... he clearly forgot to mention that party alliegance in the South changed in the late 20th century from democratic to republican, but underlying social biases did not change... so the repub party's base is ACTUALLY the same as those who voted for the biased democratic senators he criticized in his speech.
(ie republican party of today is filled with the racist southern white vote that used to go democratic at the time those acts were passed.)
edit: ah, it is fake. oh well, a real person did have that mindset.
/me pokes fun of people who base their choice of belief systems off of other people in the world... when you manage to get through all the stupidity and hypocrisy, let me know (no offense Forlorn, not pointing fingers).
C'mon people, the speech was funny, as well as being the sort of campaign speech that would **** off the NAACP *and* win the hearts of people as well

You don't understand. Retardedness is the work of the devil.
And if this was material produced by or approved by Bush, who gives a flying squirrel? He is a man living in the United States of America, and here we have freedom of speech. If he steps on your toes in exercising those rights granted to him, go eff yourself!

Do the words "campaign" and "president" mean anything to you?
Behold, the system works!
Besides:
god·less Audio pronunciation of "godless" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (gdls)
adj.
1. Recognizing or worshiping no god.
2. Wicked, impious, or immoral.
Take it as the second if you don't want to get offended. Unless you're just looking for any excuse to jump on him, in which case, he's just a fool claiming faith in an outdated outmoded belief system, pay him no heed, and go on denying your maker.
Deny my mother and father?
If I took "Bush's" usage of the word to mean the first definition (athiest), I would indeed be offended. But I'm also offended by the actual existence of the second definition.

And you have indisputable evidence that a product of your imagination is also responsible for the creation of the universe?

actually, who you're referring to isn't a product of his imagination; at worst, it's the product of some dude's imagination a long, long time ago. *edit* i should mention, however, that there might be areason that the idea has stuck.
*edit* sorry about that swiftspear - edited for clarity.
"Product of your imagination" - what, my imagination and billions of others, right?
I'd be impressed that billions of people believed in a god if He wasn't so vague. God doesn't seem to mean the same thing to any two people. To some, He's a security blanket; to others, a bigger brother. For others still, He provides a direction for their bile. And to an awful lot, He's not really that important, even if they believe He's hanging around.
