I think I speak for the vast majority of the community when I say "wewt"

on a more serious note, it's fantastic knowing that the animations are finally going to be put in the game instead of being drooled over in the model viewer, NS is one of the most polished games that I have seen out there, and third person reload goes even further to add to the completness of the game. Moreover, NS has come an obscene way from it's origional release and people who were around from 1.04 --> 2.00 can tell you how much the game got polished during that release.

AAAH I messed up zunni's name in the topic title <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> I guess is was to excited to notice, anyone with enough access care to be kind enough to correct my nubishness?

I sense skepticism and dissapointment in your post, Young Steve. So, you seek effective gameplay changes, now do you? Well, keep in mind that 3rd person reload animations can do quite a few things:

    1) You can tell when your comrade is reloading and unable to weld you, and
    2) A skulk can seek its unfortunate reloading prey with ease.

And as ancient Chinese software developers have said, they don't make release builds just for reload animations. Well, maybe not Ancient nor Chinese, but there will be more to behold in the B6 release!

    Okay, end Confucian voice tags.

Sure, this may have beneficial aspects to increasing the overall gameplay of NS, but it certainly does not remedy the fundamental problems that plague Classic as of now.

Compared to what needs to be done to NS Classic to make it fun again, these changes are ridiculously superficial.

Not at all. It's just the fact that the NS team tends to ignore major gameplay issues and go for superficial graphical changes noone gives a damn about. So while there may very well be a gameplay change. Most of it will probably superficial crap we'll forget about 5minutes later

As far as we are concerned, the only negative side effect the inclusion of superficial things has is that it pushes back the release ever so slightly each time. The presence of one or ten or fifty superficial improvements has no direct impact on the rest of the changelog, and in the end when the core issues are worked out the whole game will be a lot more polished for their trouble. If you need to complain about something, then stick to complaining about what they don't accomplish, not what they do.

Anyone that followed the discussions that aroused when it was obvious regen overflow would NOT be included in beta 5 knows why the dev team won't announce any "big" changes before testing them properly. Now, if you look at the date (07.09) you'll realize that this interview was done a) shortly after beta 5's release and b) before the devs had time to discuss beta 6 properly. So maybe you won't focus on the little beta 6 infos there is, but on the rest instead? x:

To anyone who thinks combat is horrible, and way too easy for the marines:

Try not blindly rushing out of your base, ambushing your prey, and defend the friggin' hive. Oh, and don't have a TWENTY MINUTE TIME LIMIT.

    /offtopic

Third person reload animations (And other missing anims) are essentially code polish; but it's nothing to spooge over right away. Nor is it something to whine about, considering that's not going to be the only thing in the changelog.

I dont think that the NS team would go for cosmetic enhancements over gameplay enhancements, and that the visual effects/changes were more of an added bonus.

    At least i <i>hope</i> so.

Whats with all the hate? I'm not complaining and it is a nice feature to have, but if it delayed any <i>meaningful</i> progress with NS then it was just a waste of time.

I'm quietly confident that I am the only member of these boards that actually played 1.04 - cause I'm the only guy that remembers hmg/jp rushes and endless boring 2hive lockdowns. Given that everyone else claiming to have experienced that era of NS claims it was fun and balance heaven have obviously never played a game of it in their lives, therefore no one but me appreciates the difference in 2.0 from 1.04.

Its usually best to let another version playout for a couple of weeks, so that the
dev team can pick out overall balance issues, and correct them accordingly.
