Just got NSb5 and managed to play altair (I have it on hd but i tend to forgot the maps i have downloaded if i don't have time to play them right away). To Thursday, I think it looks the same as in screenshots. I liked the atmosphere with all the ambient sounds. I have heard that the gameplay is very good as well, but I haven't had a chance to play online yet <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->.
What I found problematic, is that the textures seem to repeate themselves quite a lot. People get bored to that dark wall texture, at least I do, pretty quickly. And the stairs, I would've expected to see somekind of trim used in the front sides of the steps. I have to agree with Recoup, overall it looks very empty.

Thursday, you really need to back off on this guy. I think we all understand your position by now, you have made it crystal clear that you don't like the map. The quote above is totally out of line and a cheap blow as far as im concerned. So if you post again please add some constructive feedback.
Generally it seems that official maps are not submitted, but selected. To get an official map you have to A) Make map, B) Make it in a public place (ns forums) and C) Have one of the devs like the map enough to want it in ns.
As for the people who are upset over this maps inclusion for some reason, get over it. Maybe altair is not the prettiest map in the world. The ns devs are not stupid people. They obviously included this map for a reason. Maybe that reason was the way that it plays. I have heard that altair plays very well, even if it isn't as much of a looker as some of the other maps. Quit being bitter and spiteful just because a map that may not be as good looking as you believe yours to be was included. People flip out over looks in the mapping forum and I have no idea why it seems to get 95% of the attention here. I could post pics of a few rooms that are connected in a box, but look awesome, and have at least a few people saying it should be officially included. If you are upset and believe that some quality standard is not being met, help the guy responsible for the map to fix it. Give <i>explicit suggestions</i> on how it could be made prettier.
Above all else if you guys don't have much nice to say, at the least be courteous enough to say it somewhere that people don't all have to listen to it while checking up on the progress of a map they like.
To all you slackers that are just plain JEALOUS that your map did not get into the ns official beta, quit the flaming. Now I really do doubt that KFDM wants his thread closed due to people getting **** off that they didn't get their map entered and take it out on KFDM. If it plays well, I'm sure he can make it look a whole lot better in the future releases.

I havent played this map, but iv looked at it from the first screen shots to the ones now. I never really liked how it looked. It may play really good but thats only one part. Now take your map and imprive the detail maybe change around some textures and lighting. One of the things I did notice form the screens I saw was the lack of "mood" lighting just mainly a mono white with some other color from the computers on the walls. So I say work on the map some imprive it in some spots and leave it in others, the map doest have to win the nice looking award but most people wont play a map if its super balanced. They will play it cus it looks good and plays semi-good. If game play was all that counted we would have 40 perfect playing maps of just boxes that are the same texture but are so balanced that its a fun game.

People flip out over looks in the mapping forum and I have no idea why it seems to get 95% of the attention here. I could post pics of a few rooms that are connected in a box, but look awesome, and have at least a few people saying it should be officially included. If you are upset and believe that some quality standard is not being met, help the guy responsible for the map to fix it. Give <i>explicit suggestions</i> on how it could be made prettier.

Make it prettier? Tell him to learn how to map and look at other peoples techniques. For example, spotlights at decent angles and more w_polys lol. The map is a joke lol. In NSBeta? Devs not stupid? Maybe not but they certainly weren't thinking straight at the time of this entry lol.
A couple on page 172 of Screenshots thread. Please do be overly harsh, because I will be harsher on myself. Thursday, I respect your opinion that you do not care for Altair however I request that unless you have something constructive to say that you would refrain from posting in this thread. You have made it clear that you don't like the map but have nothing beyond over generalized suggestions which does not give me anything to work with. I also do not appreciate the personal attacks and request that you stop with those.

I have heard that altair plays very well, even if it isn't as much of a looker as some of the other maps.

I thought an official map has to fit both of those categories, hence ns_bast being removed before the re-make.
Maybe the rules have changed since.
