hate to be a negative nelly but am I the only one not impressed? I hope HL2's engine can do a lot more than this... because CS:S doesn't look all that much better than the original... slightly better resolutions, woo woo.
wish I knew why they felt compelled to simply remake CS in the first place... seems illogical to me for valve to premiere their new game engine by remaking an outdated game... I guess CS had its pros, it's been this popular this long for a reason, but really, it's time to move on...

Releasing the CS:S beta early meant that they'd a) be able to use an immense user base for the first engine stress test (which seems to have been a full success, Valve-naysayers take note, they can still code) b) hype a significant part of the CS community for the 'updated' CS (same flavor, better graphics), thus c) encouraging them to purchase either HL2 or CS:S via Steam, which is a win:win situation for them. Also, it allows them to push the comparably weakly selling Condition Zero. So, from a business POV, it was a rock solid decision.
I for mine wouldn't even have thought about releasing a port before having reworked all visual aspects to profit off the new engine, but it seems the biggest part of the audience is content, so the mission was accomplished.

... Irfanview works...but on my computer is screws up after 10 or so uses (as in, it doesn't import some forms of movies and some forms of pictures properly anymore). It's a bit annoying like that, but it's small and easy to reinstall - and it works nice when it works.
I dont know why your not unimpressed. The graphics the game can display are amazing, and the same goes for the physics engine. The models themselves are as detailed as the modeler makes them, that really has nothing to do with the engine, or very little. Same goes with mapping and texture making.
well, my opinion isn't very informed as I haven't actually played the game and am going just on the screenshots... but really, I guess I'm just sick of looking at and even thinking about the same old freaking counter-terrorists and terrorists... and higher res textures and ragdoll physics don't change that.
lol disco, a new engine doesnt change the whole game aspect. Its always going to be counterstrike gameplay which is what your thinking. It will just have prettier graphics and physics as time goes on.

or ati voucher. Either way it's not worth your time (unless you want the grahpics card or CZ), just wait for HL2 to come out. It's 1 map and can get pretty boring. I'm only playing because i bought CZ, a waste of my money.

I bound a key for screenshots but I can't seem to find them. What's their default location?
EDIT: ok, I bound them proper like through the console. Found the defualt folder already created. Then I found my pics were not so great. I'll go back for more later.
I've recoreded a few demos I plan on FRAPSing and Dr DivXing up.
Does anyone know if there's a command to take the hud off?
Or a host with LOTS of bandwidth? File size isn't an issue, Dr DivX is good at compression
EDIT: And by host, I mean free host ;P
I have a host, it just has limited bandwidth. Good for screenshots, bad for vids
Are the images of the sheilds from earlier versions of CS:S or are all the servers i play on just have the sheild disabled?
One would think that sheilds would be relatively bug-free...

I didnt think CZ was a waste of my money. A beta of the source engine, which my computer can run fine at all high levels with at least 20 FPS in the very bad areas, so you can see if your computer can run it and not buy HL2, only to find out it doesnt run and have it sit, then there is CZ itself. It has numerous model improvements and map improvements, as well as the nifty single player mode (which is pretty well done, I thought).
Getting to the demo ASAP. Which will be in .. some time, just came home from school and dont feel like working on it now. Passed out in one of my classes, seventh period.
