Anyone Else Tired Of Weekend Aimbotters?

Dr_aaaghDr_aaagh Join Date: 2004-02-07 Member: 26194Members

Bring on VAC
Just wondering whether anyone else out there has given up with playing at weekends due to the huge amounts of aimbotters/cheaters?

Seems like every server has at least one aimbotter these days and this results in a really frustrating experience when playing aliens. Its bad enough that on public servers, half the alien team are total noobs, but the cheating just makes it intolerable.

Additionally, it doesnt help that CD is constantly out of date (and therefore there are virtually no public servers where it is obligatory) and it will be months before the whole VAC thingy is supported.

I gave up with counterstrike because it felt like I was the only one not cheating and I feel NS is now going the same way. Dunno what can be done, but if any developers are reading - please sort out VAC asap.

Anyhow, I guess I'll just have to play during weekdays and leave weekends to doom3/farcry/ut2k4

Dr aaagh!

Cheating isn't really rampant, but mistrust is. And the few cheaters that run around usually aren't even the ones being suspected, because their name might not be at the top of the scoreboard.

So just accept what happens as you making mistakes, or go competitive where CD is required for matches (and usually in scrims).

CD does not support NS specific cheats, only the allround cheats which also work with officially suported games like CS.
Actually ther eis no real anti cheat for NS yet, but CD will support NS verry soon since there was a vote on the CD homepage and NS won it.

Nah, I just ran into an aimbotter on a server today that usually NEVER has cheaters. It was extremely obvious and at least 6 ppl specced him and confirmed that he was cheating. We couldn't kick him, however, due to lack of a server admin. Eventually this bustling 22 person server died off because of horrible alien loss after loss due to this one blatant cheater (whom didn't deny it).

It really takes me back to the counterstrike days when this happens. I hope some type of automated system gets in place soon (like VAC maybe), so we dont have to waste our time bringing every single lamer to trial with demos, etc.

A few weeks ago I saw a speedhacker playing as alien and could get focus and still bite 10x faster then the normal skulk plus he ran a bijillion miles an hour.

Speedhackers are obvious. Aimbotters are usually just good players.

You don't even have to be all that great to be labeled an "aimbotter."

I seriously doubt there are that many cheaters out there. It's more a case of paranoia. The gap between the average player and the great player is quite significant, and may give the illusion of cheating. So calm down, take a deep breath, and play some more. Nothing you can do about the "cheaters" at the moment anyway.

Dr aaagh, I doubt that you have the slightest idea of the difference between a high skilled player and a cheater.

my aim is awful and i get banned for "aimbotting" all the time

it just goes to show how much people know about cheats

the thread poster is right though, i've been seeing an increasing number of cheaters in NS lately as well, mainly in the form of little kids using aimbots extremely blatantly as they snap to targets and track flawlessly

I've never seen an aimbotter in NS, only two speedhackers, and a couple of wallhackers. Wallhacks are the hardest to spot though.....all in all, be glad to know that cheating is not nearly as rampant in NS as it is in CS. Killing speedhacking knifers in CS with a deagle has become a personal pasttime.....

I have seen 3 speedhackers, one aimbotter. I know he was an aimbotter because I have pretty good aim and his aim was rediculously good. It was only possible to kill him by rushing him with like 4 aliens or to attack him while he is switching guns....

NS Beta, about 40% of the players i know are complete cheating/hacking gits, and the worst thing is you can spec them and record thier easy to notice aimbot, and if you show it to valve or anyone else ect.

The do f*** all to stop them. Just a day ban sometimes.

A DAY IS NOT ENOUGH. They should be banned from all HL games including HL2 for even thinking about cheating on Valves games.

Reading the first post: Yes i did quit playing beta because of the amount of cheaters. And no one post saying its that i suck, when someone hacks, either A: its plain obviouis or B: You spec them and see it urself.

On the lerky jerky server, most of our clan members have admin status at the moment, so, if we suspect someone is cheating (Example, killing 4 skulks with only 1 LMG clip without getting hit while they were bouncing around and strafing) then one of us goes to Spectator mode and watches him. If we see he is aimbotting, then we ban him. Solved in a few minutes. If you play on the much larger servers where admin is never present, then what can I say? You are screwed.

I was banned when I tried to tell an admin that there was an obvious cheater on the server. Instead of listening he kept telling me he wasnt hacking when the guys aimer snapped to targets and had flawless aim while shooting fades blinking at 100000 mph. Yeah the admin kept switching me to the opposite team of the cheater so I gave the admin a piece of my mind and was banned.

I won't comment on CD's general legitimacy as an NS anti-cheat tool, and I won't comment on the proliferation of cheats in NS, but I can offer the following observations:

On the server in my signature, we run CD REQ, for several reasons:

When we run CD REQ, we don't experience frustration from cheaters. EVER. Draw your own conclusions as to why we don't, but we don't. This is valuable to the average player.

When we run CD REQ, we find that players joining the server are, on average, more prepared to work as a team and embrace the principles that makes NS such a great mod. Yes, morons still exist, but they are fewer per capita. This factor is HUGE, and it's typically understood by our regulars that CDREQ is more a strategy toward player quality than player honesty.

When we run CD REQ, no player is permitted to publicly accuse (or even suspect) someone else of cheating, period. This is valuable to the above-average player, as they grow tired of pubbers constantly, ignorantly, and baselessly accusing them of cheating, and an environment where their skill is respected and their teamwork is appreciated typically sits well with them.

Running CD REQ dramatically limits the players from which you can create a regular player base, but our experience shows that it significantly raises the quality of the average player on the server, when measured not least by skill, teamwork, and general niceness.

The players attracted by this approach, combined with an almost constant admin presense when the server is active (which tends to be moreso in the afternoons/evenings than during the day), makes for what our regulars feel is a generally enjoyable, cheat-free experience when playing on our server.

CD's not perfect, but we prefer it. And while there are other public servers which share our approach with regard to the tool, we understand that we are in the minority by running CD REQ.

Good luck in your efforts to find more enjoyable public experiences. There are plenty to find, you just have to be patient in your search.

I tried a aimbot once in ns, and I really didnt see that big of and advantage...ESP freakin rocks waaay too much in skilled hands.

Oh I surely never trust admins, more than half ppl I suspected of hacking where admin.
At least in ns, you can't shoot trough wall!
  • RecoupRecoup Join Date: 2004-04-25 Member: 28195Members
The only reason to be an admin on Lerky Jerky is to be responsible and fair. We all debate wheather or not hes hacking. Admins are people too, not evil guys out to get you. It takes at least 3 to 5 people to all agree he is hacking or aimbotting before we kick/ban from the server. This isnt like NSArmsLab.
