I used to do karate, I believe it has a different name now?
I now taken an interest in Wushu but, living in the northeast of England there are no schools - is it good to train online, if anyone has used online training before?
I've tried google, and no schools are close to me nor are there any online UK training websites - if i've missed any would be appricated if you'd say

Edit: I also wish some people were as interested in English classes as they are in martial arts.
also my hobby is BMXing, doing tricks on bikes for you who don't know - but as I am one of many lucky people who lve in the UK it rains and rain stops me/us from riding
Seen a couple videos of that and it looks really cool.
I did tae-Kwon-do for several years.
In three different states in the US (b/c I move alot)
2 of my instructors were from South Korea and the first was a world champoion Vietnamese guy.
The other 2 were both raised and traied in South Korea, and had many achievements as well.
They were the "real deal" lol
The third instructor I had ran one school out of 3 separate other ones, with his brother and their father who was a grand master.
Im myself am No ninja but I was good enough to get first and 3rd place at state
tournaments for contact sparring
I went 4 times a week and after several years of doing this, I dare say it kept me pretty flexable and in good shape for the varios other sports I played.
PS, the knife and pistol disarming moves help are of use to me in my job today as well.
According to that logic, people enroll for English classes because they want to become the next Hemingway. Martial arts are generally some of the better, more interesting, and, at least to me, more fun ways of obtaining physical fitness, so why not?

I would take english classes to avoid being the next Hemingway
I was actually considering Tai Chi, a sort of combination between yoga and martial arts. Very interesting stuff if you are serious about it.

Poring over the pages, I just knew that I had to play this game, to live in this other world. Heroes and villains, magic and mystery, epic quests and noble causes were all waiting to unfurl before my eyes. And ever since I vanquished Chaos, I've been hooked. Each of the English games has been analyzed, replayed, and studied as if it were a sacred text - and I'd be lying if I didn't acknowledge the Final Fantasy series as the primary impetus behind my Japanese studies.

That's part of a review for Final Fantasy 8 at Gamespot...it got a 9.5, but you see what I mean, right?
Only on the computer all day is when it's raing (like past 3 days :@, bike is broke as it is now but it's raining so not that bad and when there's nothing to do)
really looking forward to the Marine Corps martial arts program, tho..
Can't go anymore because I can't fit it in around work
I still run through katas and such sometimes, but really don't put much time into it..> ^^;;
I always liked it becasue it was not as rigid, we rarely did Katas such. There was still the necesary respect there, that you have to have when ever you are doing something like this (bow in and out of class, bow when entering the building, respects to your partners etc). However the uniform was a school Shirt and sweats/shorts (preferably black).
Basic premise of JKD is:

I have studied:
Kali (Philipino, lots of weapons)
Muay Thai
Western Kick Boxing
Shoot Wrestling
Brazilian Ju-Jitsu
And of course Streat fighting done correctly (aka, how to stop a fight).
This is the best way of getting a work out ever
You will cover every single muscle group, the endurance you will build up is simply amazing.
And to top it all off its FUN!
oh, and you can handel your self if it ever comes to a fight (hey, it is a plus).
The place that I studied:
http://www.progressivemartialarts.com/
Not gona help you (as it is in Queens, NYC)
As for training your slef?
It is next to useless.
You don't actualy know what it SHOULD be thus you can pick up some VERY bad habits.
Combine that with the fact that MA is designed as a reaction to a threat, you can never get proper timing/force if you don't have some one to work with.
good luck, hope you find a place.
