I'd love to get a good 5.1 speaker system (since I got a 5.1 card...) but I just don't have anywhere to put the speakers.. plus my PC is off in the corner so that wouldn't make it sound right at all. And I don't want no speaker stands I'd end up kicking over...
Anyway, I've just moved house, and I'm now next door to an old lady. My computer room shares a wall with hers, so no late night, max volume fragging for me.

Lol? You must have a radeon 9800 to play at the recommend.. Minimum specs are probably the most bare minimum they can squize out of their super clocked GPU <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Heh , first time I figure DooManiac's avatar <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
On a Doom 3 benchmark, just the Radeon 9700 Pro 128 MB ran it at average 60 fps on medium detail at 1024x768 (I always play at that resolution anyways, never higher...) with a Pentium 3.06 ghz. So having a good processor helps. The 9800 (non-pro I think) 128 MB gets average of about 70 fps with the same system and detail, but I'm sure it depends less on processor than the 9700 does.
On a similar note, I really need to upgrade. I don't think the old Radeon 8500 and 1.4 ghz is gonna get me through Doom 3.
I'll probably wait until some demos come out or theres some reviews of the X-box co-op mode before I decide...It looks really good, but then again so did Quake 3... can't stand quake 3. Anyway, I really like co-op. So it's gonna rest on that for me.

It's a shame when one year old computer barely meets the mininial specs for Doom3. I've got 2.79GHz processor, good amount of RAM, more virtual memory than the law allows, but a GeForce 4 MX processor! O'well. Hopefully they'll be a demo so I see how my computer takes it. After the tragedy of Erfurt (for those with short memories: A school-shooting with more victims than Littleton.) politicians demanded harsher regulations on computer games. After some discussion between our chancelor and the game industrys lobby (thankfully a comparably big employer over here), this resulted in a strengthening of the USK, an independent gremium comparable to the ERSB. Since then, all games have to be rated by the USK before they can be sold in Germany (which leads to some ridiculous fallout, such as pre-USK games (p.e. Mario Kart) being technically illegal, not that anyone would care). In exchange, a game rated positively by the USK can not be indicted anymore. Now, here comes the good part: The USK is staffed by gamers not much older than you or me. They do, quite naturally, not apply half as mean standards as the BPjM. Thus, indiction has become a by far less likely danger around here. It still happens on occasion (ironically, the German game Far Cry was being rated negatively in its uncut version), but generally, access to action games is easier.

Yes I said Meh!
Because there are a load of other games I'd much prefer to play, like Evil Genius and Half-Life 2 for starters.
I'm pretty sure I have a coverdisc with a promo NVIDIA/Doom3 movie on it. One of those "how it's meant to be played" thingers.
Surely it means NVIDIA are paying id to say nice things about them - if that's the case they wouldn't be all "get ATI"
