You're planning on making this when you don't have ANY team members, and you yourself have no talents aside from concept.
Depending on the money, though, I might be able to do some world models on the side <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> Nothing full time though.
A proper MMORPG needs multiple servers. Servers that can handle more than a few thousand people.
Testament hit the nail on the head
They go around to under-appreciated mod forums and ask for 3D modellers and programmers. Then they want resumes and replies sent to their 'sk8terGuy' AIM screen name and their yahoo account.
Not that I want to imede your epic MMORPG created by a team of one person, but perhaps we could nail spelling the 'plz' abbreviation right first, and then move up to actually spelling out 'please'. Then we can obtain our own web site to host our game's concepts and e-mail needs.
...And then the asking for applications part begins, although realistically, if you're making a decent MMORPG in 3D you're going to need to pay the people you want working for you, or they'd have to be a group of your friends.
Hello there, let's play "don't flame Tycho." It's easy! Just read my post, and notice where I say I can do some world models for you!
If it's "plz" instead of "please" then it's not there. So he was unusually terse with his response. Also, he used a skulk when there was no reason for one. It certainly wasn't "Gee, thanks for helping me out in a barren, desolate wasteland that this thread has become!" He didn't even acknowledge that I offered him help. Assuming he was for real and could pay of course.
testament, you call him a moron for wanting help on a somewhat crazy project and wanting to keep the thread on topic?
slayer, i guess if this little idea of yours got off the ground i wouldnt mind helping a bit... i cant do much... and i dont have time to do that much... i would definantly make this mod for hl2 though...
From your kind of writing and your website (spelling errors everywhere....) I would guess you aren't older than 17. In addition, you want to be the Lead Concept Designer. WTH? Nothing more? Concepts?
With that little to offer, your whole "dream" of creating a MMORPG is pathetic.
about your "game" if you're expecting any kind of help
Slayer.
What game engine are you using, are there going to be
monthly fee's to play? What's a "SchreenShote"?
(Check your website for the word "SchreenShote".)
/me demands more info
I'd guess english isn't his 1st language...
I'm sorry to say you won't find anyone unless you have at least some screenshots or you can pay someone.
(At least I can tell you how it works for HL mods: people join your team when they're interested. So you have to interest them by providing a good concept and information on what's already done and what you plan to do etc.)
That does seem to be the case, but this time it's not totally unwarranted.
Slayer, I'm not going to be one that tries to utterly crush your idea, but maybe you should be a further into development before asking for modellers.
What the player can see is only one part of a game. Most of a MMORPG's work is done in the non-visual world (ie: core code, the databases, event handlers, etc, etc, etc).
If you can present a solid design, modellers will be more likely to have interest in joining.
I think it's because most of us subscribe to the idea that an aborted fetus is better off than a kid that dies of leukemia at 2 years old after living a painful OR ignored life.
I also have an idea for a persistent world online rpg, but I think I have better chances of succeeding because I'm a jack-of-all-trades as far as game development goes. I can design, I can code, and I can make models/art (just not quickly). That and I don't go around killing the idea by whoring it out to anyone that's willing to work on it.
So, yeah, 3-4 years from now. It'll be alive.
So advice for Slayer:
1) No.
2) Stay in school.
3) Get hired by an established company for your amazing Concept Art skills.
or
3 alternate) Change your name to American McGee.
mmorpg, and you got, what? You want some real flames? Go read my posts on <a href='http://moddb.com' target='_blank'>http://moddb.com</a> against people like him :|
Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
*breathe*
ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, like everyone already said, what is your budget? What kind of money to you have to fund this game? I'd say bare minuium $100,000 US to get it started (Software licensing, engine licensing or paying someone to make you an engine, etc) Making a game from scratch is not cheap.
just a wake up call
