Computer Reboots Every Time I Try To Join A Server

Every single time I try to join a server, my computer automatically reboots. I have the latest version and all that stuff, I can't figure out any explanation for this problem.

System specs:
MSI 865PE Neo2
Pentium 4 2.6 ghz
512 MB ram
Radeon 9800 pro

Wow

So you start Steam, go to games, start NS, everything loads up and you can click on server and the list shows. When you click on a server to join, bang your computer powers down and restarts.

Have you ever been able to play? or is this something new? Can you play other mods? CS, TFC, etc.

Try deleting clientregistry.blob file in Steam folder. If that doesn't work then re-install Steam.

Also make sure to defrag and run Spybot S&D and Adware 6.0 (can do those first)

I tried reinstalling steam, it didn't work. I formatted my computer afterwards, and reinstalled steam again. Didn't work. I tried reinstalling steam one more time after that, still didn't work. I can play every other half life mod I've ever tried, CS, TFS etc.

I haven't tried deleting that clientregistry.blob file, I'll try that tomorrow.

About the adaware and spybot, there was no possibility of me having any spyware or viruses right after I formatted my computer. I installed steam right after I set up all my drivers and it still restarted.

I sometimes get this problem, it occurs alot when trying to start up my computer. It reboots a couple times before fully logging into windows (it restarts while logging in, freeezes with the sound). The only same piece of hardware I have as you is your P4 @ 2.6 ghz (mine is OC'd to 3.12).

You know, not many talk about registry issues. When I first ran a registry check it found 30-40 errors.

I have tried Registry Mech and it is free, yet will only correct the first 6 values. It's maybe worth trying, it gets very good reviews at cnet.

I run NSW 2003 and it comes with a registry repair and everytime I dl or delete a prog I scan and it almost always finds an error.

You can also visit this site, they have (I think pg 4) a page file defrag prog dl that wouldn't hurt.

I don't believe its possible to have registry problems when steam is the first thing you installed after formatting your drive except for drivers.
EDIT: I have the latest Omega drivers for my radeon 9800 pro... every other game works perfectly.

I have to agree with Thansel on this one sounds like a BSOD.

Control Panel>System>Advanced Tab>Startup and recovery>Untick Automatic Restart, It should be about half-way down under system failure.

Run NS again tell us if you get a BSOD and write down any information that looks important, such as the file that causes the crash.

hmm... make sure you dont have alot of proceses a memory leak and make sure your graphics card isnt accelerated past its point.
Also make sure that cpu is overclocked to the extreme to where you do something like run hl and it restarts your computer.

Hmm highly od this should not have been a fix just a way to get more info about why you was crashing lol.

Could be windows was detecting the lauch of NS as a system failure hence restarting, seems abit far fetched tho.

yah,I am not at one of my machines so I never remember where that check box is (thanks Jasp)

and what he said, it shouldn't have fixed it....

did you do ANYTHING else?

oh, and @lightning1:
You do know to use add/remove programs to remove programs NOT deleating them (this will clean most of it from the registry)

also, reviews on CNet are fairly suspect (as they are nonprofesionals on one of the most well known DL sites)

Combine that with me not liking letting a free program (or one that charges for that matter) loose on my registry.....

Really odd.. now I'm getting a BSOD... but it worked for one night. I'll record the info of the BSOD and post it in a bit.

Thanks Thansal, no I didn't know that about cnet reviews. I have always had good success at cnet, yet I take all reviews with a grain of salt, and when you mess with the registry you can make a boat achor in a hurry. I try to only recommend stuff I have tried and I have tried Registry Mechanic and it worked for me to a point (NSW 2003 was good and I already had it).

But I do not want to cause harm to anyones system so I will take your advice and not post it here. Also didn't know you can delete clientregistry.blob thru uninstall.

but as Storm said, reinstall (or change) your drivers <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

in general the fix to unexplained reboots (probably hidden BSoDs) and BSoDs is to play with your drivers <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />
