and i am now an official Marine recruit.. i'm on the delayed entry program, and my qualification test and physical should be within the next two weeks.
i've got under a year to get as fit as i can for boot, and my first recruit PT is monday night.

first PT was today.
i haven't run 5 miles in at least a year.
ran nonstop, cadence and all, kept a steady pace and made it back 3rd of the 10 or so guys.
whew.. gunny tells me i should do a lot of stretchin tonight, else i might stiffen up. next PT is wednesday.

my mother is more and more disconcerted these days by the audible gasps emanating from anyone she notifies of my now and future career.
she received a call recently (and QUITE conveniently) from the mother of a friend of mine who is decidedly antiwar and anti-violence.
she gets off the phone and tells me, "that was Marian-"
"i know."
"well she was talking to me about a friend she knows..."
"what, a Marine?"
"well, he's a member of <b>Veterans For Peace</b>."
well yadda yadda, and now i have to see Farenheit 69 and talk to some VFP people before i enlist. and my mother claims she's, "not trying to discourage me."

and Venmoch, are those the royal army or the royal marines?
the USMC and the royal marines are both the best of their best, and, were i a brit, i would be proud to serve over there.
seeing as i'm not, i'm gonna go ahead and take my m16 and not those junky things XD
