Amazing Onos Combat Build

---Finally an use for redemption---
I've tested this 5 times in a row, I've always had 3:1, my worse, to my best 8:1 with this build and will share it

Now, the only times you should usually die is in the skulk stage or half a hand-ful of times in fade/onos stages, (I SUCK as a skulk, dieing about 3-7 times for about 3-6 kills)

Order of skills, yes I am sane.

Lvl2: Save
Lvl3: Save
Lvl4: Fade
Lvl5: Redemption (I will explain how to use effectively)
Lvl6: Save
Lvl7: Onos
Lvl8: Carapace, I will explain
Lvl9: Get either stomp or celerity depending on situation
Lvl10: Get stomp or celerity depending what you got on 9

Forum Reader: Saving is obvious but why redemption at fifth level?

Answer: Fades redeem at 140 HP, you are invincible when you blink away unless a shotty ambushes you.

How to use Redemption effectively

Redemption is a very hard skill to predict, it can work instantly or take 5 seconds to work.

The trick with fade redemption is if your at full health, make sure there are no shotties, and just attack a group of marines at full health....now when you have about 180 HP blink away or if your not going to die in seconds (LMGers), keep attacking, I usually crouch jump, jump, or crouch to make this even harder for the marines by the way in battle.

LMGs will make you redeem 7/10 of the time and you cannot be pistol whipped when blinking with around 140 HP for you are being redeemed. Only shotties make the attack the group idea bad, just blink away at 200 health when a shotty is in the group.

Now, the onos redeems at 400 HP.

Forum Reader: Why not Regen, but carapace?

Regeneration makes redemption faaaar to unreliable but....the beauty of carapace is, when your around 400 HP with onos you usually have 100 armor left, another 200 HP to keep you from dieing when you redeem.

Forum Reader: Why not just get regeneration and adrenaline? Doesn't matter if you die in combat.

Now, this is the main problem with combat. It does matter if you die between hive attacks or leveling up marines it does matter. It also discourages marines as you will VERY RARELY die at level 8 and above as onos, you have to be literally cornered with 1-3 heavy weapons firing at you with no adrenaline to die.

Just imagine seeing an onos coming in to attack, killing 3-4 people then safelty redeems back to his hive healing, you may eject the marine your digesting if you ate him to late though, for this is what happens when I use this build. Carapace/Redemption onos is a tank that doesn't die but can dish out damage and can stun, and just heals when it's about to die.

Constructive critism wanted, if you disagree with me please try this first then complain to me.

You may have to change the order due to situations in game, so its not set in stone but what is advisable.

Not dying in CO has huge benefits ... like the other team not getting exp.

Just thought i'd mention to guarantee a redeem in a group while your an onos, stomp one lot of attackers and let the other lot slowly bring your health down rather than have it rushed down.

Also you can get good at redeem so that when you need to make a quick trip to the hive you can use the enemy or the enemies mines for a free ride.

Also one other thing i wanted to mention going for redeem before fade can be a good choice too, to avoid dieing as often when going for early levels. You can be more reckless at the start with early redeem as long as you are evasive when facing groups and they dont have SG's.

(the onos build works really well in the map (kestral??) with the green acid you can use to make a getaway.)

edit: need a low ping to be really effective.

now that aliens win after 10 mins(depends on servers) defending hive , playing like chicken (to tha extreme!)has more benefits.
    rede=
    *less exp for marines
*keeps you in hive eventually , which helps you to defend
*no more death rows as long as the whole team (harer spawncamping)

How often does that happen (or at least should that happen) by the time you are a level 5 fade? There should be a few level 4 guys with lvl1 armor and a shotty hanging around (or something similar).

Any strategy will work fine if the marines suck, or have strange upgrade patterns, or run off solo. That doesn't mean it's good.

I fade around 2:00 mark, most marines don't have shotties on my server at that time, but I have ran in a situation where they did, guess what?

Blink, hit, blink, hit, blink, redeem. Also, you have skulks to distract them.

Thats what you do, and if your just here to flame, play the game with this build then complain, not just TheoryCraft.

.... find a different server dude

Either that game is a 5v5 or less, or you somehow managed to kill 8 marines as a skulk.
  • ThardinThardin Join Date: 2004-01-05 Member: 25081Members
Considering 8v8 is the most balanced for cmbat and that 10v10 is so biased towards marines, no. I play on a server that is 8v8 by the way which is a lot of death for both sides.

I doubt you even have used redemption or if you did, bother trying to master it? Its not like regeneration and carapace which are get and forget abilities, redemption saves you several times but not everyone can do it, its like bunny hopping.

Its not that difficult to leech and kill marines, you only need 3-5 kills to be level 3 unless your entire team is around you to leech from you and just some leeching to be level 4. If the marines are special and work together it may take about 3 minutes and a half to get to fade.

As I've said before, try to actually use this build 2-3 times then critize, Theory Craft always loses to real tests.

I got a vet stack on the server today and didn't get to fade until 3:34 and by that time about 4-5 marines had shotties, I died twice times as fade and redemption worked twice.

I was careless the first two times, then when I went redemption/carapace onos I couldn't be killed. Stomping marines gives you even a LONGER chance and carapace this almost gives you 100% to redeem provided your not the only khaara and the entire marine team doesn't have shotties/HMGs firing at you.

I'm pretty sure there are 2 things that matter with redemp:

    1) Carapace increases the health at which your redeem at, TOTAL OWNAGE.
    2) From what I know (I've tested it and I think it's true) the more adrenaline you have the faster you redemp.

I've found regen carapace adrenaline stomp onos is far superior than any other build I've ever tried. Granted I haven't tried this redemption one, and probably never will, but I will say not dying AND not being brought back the hive ever is much better than having to run back every time you almost die. Stomp and carapace make sure you will kill anything you come up against, short of jp hmg marines in a big room, then you just heal to full quickly and continue rampaging. Add in a lerk umbraing you and you have an unstoppable combination.

i'm in the middle east and the closest ping to me used to be 100 (now the servers are ****ed up and i get 400) so the lowest ping NOW is 300 :O

that really sucks don't it. np, i'm gonna live in LA in july!!! w00t!!!

    --

i onos the majority of alien co games, and i get stomp, regen, redemp, and cele. in beta 3 where spawning was faster, i used to sub redemp for adren so i can stomp more and escape better. i have found my....onos more satisfying than yours because sometimes when you eat n' run, u need regeneration instead of going aaaaalll the way back to the hive (maps such as rebirth, it's a long way back to hive) and u might not be at the health level to redeem, so regen will fix that right up.

I myself am a fan of redeem in combat while using Onos because most of the time (for me atleast) I'd redeem before I died unless I was running up against four HMG's. My usual config is cara/regen/celerity/redemption. With this type of config, I'm more of a "suicidical" Onos who just charge's into the marine's and hit them with gore until I die, run to regenerate, or redeem. Even though you may hate redeem, there's still that feeling of protection that you're going to be saved when you need it instead of being caught running through a door to escape. I don't use stomp in combat because it doesn't really serve any useage unless I want to just be lame and devour and hide around the corner.

i remember redeem form 1.0x... *starts crying remmbering the gud ole' days*

anyways, redeem as onos owns, but u have to have cele and cara... they help no end when it comes to redemption

I think better is to have is Regen and redempt and adren(if i remember right ya can get all these with onos), cause regen keeps boosting your health while in battle if ya dont redeem right away, while redempt gets ya back to hive and ya got 2x healage, way much faster than redempt + carapace + adren, gets you faster back to battle, and you hurt more rines in the process.

eh... i hate redemption as onos. in co if i even bother to go Onos i go regen, cara, celrity and adren.

Nothing can beat that . I usally screw redemption because I enjoy eating marines to give the advantage (player wise) on the field for my team

IMHO the best first combat upgrade is SILENCE. Nothing like chasing a marine down a corridor, with him not turning round cos he can't hear you!!!! He turns round after the first bite, looks down after the second bite, presses fi.... oh dear, he's already dead! hehehehehehe, Chuck in some Celerity second time around and voila, silent and swift. Then rack up the kills and go whichever upgrade chain you want!!!
