I wish they would teach us that kinda stuff in History...
I'm writing up a guide right now to get everyone up to speed on what to do. I'm laying it out with the general gist of the puzzle, followed by detailed segments about what the riddles are, then the way you get to the next page, so if you want to figure the stuff out yourself, you still can.
Right, because people are having trouble with this, I've written a guide up to the furthest page everyone knows.
If you wish to solve the puzzles yourself, I'll be providing the basics for solving it, followed by more detail, so if you're stuck, you can still work on it alone.
Some prerequisites... o ALWAYS Check the page source. There's always some stuff hidden in there that you may be missing. o A lot of references come from the story "Dance, Dance, Dance". You can find it online here: <a href='http://yanko.lib.ru/books/lit/engl/murakami-dance-engl.htm' target='_blank'>http://yanko.lib.ru/books/lit/engl/murakami-dance-engl.htm</a>
For those who just want to get through it as fast as they can, then the red sections are the most important info, like logins.
Copy and paste into notepad, or use the quote function to read the microfont (done to prevent major spoilers)
So, let's get started, Shall we?
Puzzle 1: "Asia Awaits"
Highlight the page, and paste the text into notepad with word wrap off. This will give you the first riddle
<span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'>"Alexander cut me, An oracle predicted me, A future king tied me, Say my name to clear your path"</span>
Clicking the "Asia Awaits" image provides a password prompt, with the Realm title "HeWhoRuledByTheSword"
Puzzle 2: "Patients"
You'll notice after looking at the image for a while that it displays a load of 3 digit numbers for a split second every 80 or so seconds. This is a sub puzzle in a way which has no bearing on the actual progression of the main one. In the background, you'll hear a woman's voice saying something in the NATO phonetic alphabet. This is irrelevant at this point in time. (It says <span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'>"A H S P N W R S F R"</span>, for the curious). Clicking the image makes a popup that says the current date, followed by "De jongen zal alleen sterven" (which roughly translates to "The boy will die alone")
Those 3 digit numbers you'll see are all ASCII codes. Also known as ALT codes. If you wish to translate themself, then go ahead. I'll provide translations here regardless.
The Sub puzzle: <span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'>1590521471 fourth word add s 0060254920 fifth word 0970042809 last word

Those numbers there are ISBN numbers.

Other stuff:
<span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'> Page title: "On the Zuiderzee That old fishing sea, The Faeiries stole, The boys of Marken"
Hidden in the source: "The old name of the site of the boy's disappearance is the name of the place you must go."
What you need to do is to replace the current page URL with the answer to the (main) riddle. (ie. Change TimeFlows.htm to ________.htm)
PUZZLE 3: "HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?"
This is the easiest one to get of all, but it's fairly difficult to get the entire thing for some people. Just look at the image VERY carefully.
<span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'> Look underneath the sign. You'll see some very faint letters there.
Hidden in the source: "The Cat Died"
New ASCII code that says "whatcomesafterwetireofchasingwildsheep?"</span>
Click the sign to get the Password Prompt, Realm name "WhatALovelyDrapeTheyMake". The user and pass is what you find in the image.
"the eyes that C the Claws that CatCh"
Just click the windows in the image to proceed
<span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'>Stuff in source: "ALL IS DEAD AND GONE WHAT WAS LEFT BY THE WOEBEGONE"
Random letter strings (sustitute letters for equivalent numbers, ie. 0 = a, 1 = b, etc.) Which says "L'hotel Dauphin", I believe. Not entirely sure what the others are, I forget.
Double Clicking on the sides of the hotel will get a prompt saying "A pristine white-suger candy of a resort in the aegean sea"</span>
PUZZLE 4: "A moth flew in the room when I di4d This one is hard if you don't know anything about "Dance, Dance, Dance". Click on the bottom "light" to get the assword prompt, realm "CuriousityKilledTheCat". Take note of the status bar's message of "WALLS 1F WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN". To get the password....well, you'll need to check through Dance, Dance, Dance.
<span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'> Note: You're looking for the name of the cat and when it died. </span>
"THEY CAN'T ESCAPE THE STORM" Just click the back of the car you see in front of you. However, before you do, mouse around the image and pay attention to anything you see, it may come in handy.
PUZZLE 5: "Hide Your Sorrows" You won't see much. At all. What you ARE seeing though is an ASCII image <span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'>(a man standing atop something in the night sky)</span> This is the place you get the riddle for the login to the next puzzle. Working it out however isn't easy at all. Highlight the image and you're shown a load of code. Look for a pattern. When you've found the repeating pattern, that's what you need to work with. Have fun.
<span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'>Stuff in the source: "Wax" "A one armed skeleton" "I am the answer" "Find me" "Not smart by half"
To get access to the actual riddle, you need to convert all those letters to numbers, then reverse the sequence. Now, you disregard the first number, that just tells you how many characters there are in the riddle. From there, you need to divide the numbers by their reletive position in the code. 80/1 130/2 246/3
etc.
Keep going until the 158th character. Then you need to use 160 on the next character (really 159th in sequence.) Keep going until you'd decoded it all.
Translated and reformatted: "(We shall extend the empire of Persia such that its boundaries will be Bob's own sky, so the sun will not look down upon any land beyond the boundaries of what is our ow*.)"</span>
From there, you go back to the "A moth flew in the room when I di4d" page.
Now, click on the other light. This will give you a password prompt, realm name "Master and Betrayer"
"DON'T STRAY FROM THE PATH" Yet to be solved
PASSWORDS:
PUZZLE 1: <span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:red'>User: Alexander Pass: Gordian</span></span>
From the looks of it, this is the current end of the line, unless there's something about the small string of numbers or the sound we're supposed to get a new URL from. The source is very bare, and I couldn't spot anything that might be a puzzle.

<span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'>Stuff in source:
"ALL IS DEAD AND GONE WHAT WAS LEFT BY THE WOEBEGONE"
Random letter strings (sustitute letters for equivalent numbers, ie. 0 = a, 1 = b, etc.) Which says "L'hotel Dauphin", I believe. Not entirely sure what the others are, I forget.
Double Clicking on the sides of the hotel will get a prompt saying "A pristine white-suger candy of a resort in the aegean sea"</span>
PUZZLE 4: "A moth flew in the room when I di4d
This one is hard if you don't know anything about "Dance, Dance, Dance". Click on the bottom "light" to get the assword prompt, realm "CuriousityKilledTheCat". Take note of the status bar's message of "WALLS 1F WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN". To get the password....well, you'll need to check through Dance, Dance, Dance.
<span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'>

</span>
"THEY CAN'T ESCAPE THE STORM"
Just click the back of the car you see in front of you. However, before you do, mouse around the image and pay attention to anything you see, it may come in handy.
PUZZLE 5: "Hide Your Sorrows"
You won't see much. Have fun.
<span style='font-size:3pt;line-height:100%'>Stuff in the source:
"Wax"
"A one armed skeleton"
"I am the answer"
"Find me"
"Not smart by half"
To get access to the actual riddle, you need to convert all those letters to numbers, then reverse the sequence. Now, you disregard the first number, that just tells you how many characters there are in the riddle. From there, you need to divide the numbers by their reletive position in the code.
80/1
130/2
246/3
etc.
Keep going until the 158th character. Then you need to use 160 on the next character (really 159th in sequence.) Keep going until you'd decoded it all.
Translated and reformatted:
"(We shall extend the empire of Persia such that
its boundaries will be Bob's own sky, so the sun
will not look down upon any land beyond the boundaries
of what is our ow*.)"</span>
From there, you go back to the "A moth flew in the room when I di4d" page.
Now, click on the other light. This will give you a password prompt, realm name "Master and Betrayer"
"DON'T STRAY FROM THE PATH"
