Ati Catalyst Drivers And Smargart

<div class="IPBDescription">Leave my AGP alone</div> I've got an ATI 9800 Pro running the newest Catalyst drivers and something is annoying me. <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I didn't even know about it until I got the Ground Control 2 MP demo, but my AGP acceleration is turned off, all the time. So I nosed around advanced display properties and saw this SmarGart dealie. Apparently it adjusts your AGP acceleration to levels that keep your system stable. I guess, stable, in my case, means no AGP. I can turn it back on to 8X if I want to, but that only lasts a short period of time. Within a couple hours it's back to off.

Anyone have a clue as to why this is happening?

    You being the smart guy you usually are, I'm sure you've already checked your bios settings and set the agp aperature to 8x, right?

    Let's get one thing straight, buddy...

    I am not smart. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    How do I go about doing this?

    To go into the BIOS, press delete before windows boots up. You'll see when. Poke around the BIOS and look for AGP settings.

    Not always the delete button... best bet is to press every F button (F1-F12), delete, escape, end, and basically every button on your keyboard. Mine's escape, my old one was F4.

    Usually when you boot up there is a message such as "Press Delete to enter setup" or some such.

    Do be aware that your motherboard might not run reliably in the higher-speed AGP modes. A surprisingly large proportion of hardware is of broken design - my two last PCs have had, um, serious <i>issues</i> regarding AGP.

    If necessary, slow it down to AGP 4X or whatever - things might run a lot more smoothly and reliably.

    I think my next PC will be one that's completely simulated in Bochs... Hardware stinks.

    I had this problem to actully.
    To fix it, update your motherboard drivers.

    That's what it told me to do, actually, but I was just curious if I could fix it without...
