<div class="IPBDescription">... according to PC Gamer magazine ...</div> In the August 2004 issue of PC Gamer, which subscribers (me) should be receiving now, Dan Morris wrote a section in the Extended Play editorial giving our good friend Half-Life a last hurrah before its sequel comes out and it becomes hopelessly outdated (in Dan's eyes, at least). Nothing wrong here - that is, until Dan, throwing out several big mod names, makes a rather idiotic stumble. Here's the whole paragraph:

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->And I can't forget the lesser-known, but equally compelling, lights of this ever-creative mod community.  Consider <i>Science & Industry</i>, where the objective was to raid your enemy's research facility and kidnap his scientists.  <b>Or the much more sinister <i>Natural Selection</i>, with its plethora of real-world weapons and its hyper-realistic combat mode.</b><!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Huh? Reading this, I got the impression that Dan has never even played NS - hell, he probably hasn't even visited the web site! Not only does he describe a game that I've never played, he refers to it as "lesser-known," despite NS having more time played on Steam than Team Fortress Classic!

I think you guys know what to do. Here are the addresses:

He probably meant to say "Hostile Intent."

. . . in which case he wouldn't have mentioned Natural Selection at all, which is equally bad. Gee effing gee.

He must have been on something or just went brain dead for a second and really meant to put something else.

Heh, hopefully you didn't really buy the magazine, PC-Gamer being the most corrupt "review" mag in the market. This is just regular BS they sell there, so you'd just better ignore it like the rest of what they have written. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Then why did he specifically mention combat mode?

    v. tr.

For those that don't know how PC gamer's reviewers do their reviews, here's a basic template:
    1. New game's name (remember, all older version are obsolete - new version is a must buy).
    2. Make new game look good, no matter how badly it sucks - games must sell.
    3. To insure the readers of correctness of your deep insights, make sure to use a lot of terms and names they might have seen on the other internet websites - deep research is unnessesary though, as most of our readers are completely ignorant of facts of gaming market and will swallow everything you feed them.

I do believe most of you got my point...

Lucky_ i agree to some extent, though I actually have to admit that I sometimes agree with their oppinions.

Though, I got very dissapointed at black and white after they gave it like 96% or something like that. I think it sucked <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I do love the way they comment on all images though, its usually funny as hell (im talking about swedish PCG here, I dont know anything about all the other PCG-versions out there <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

    It does not "suck." In fact it does it's job pretty well; being a AD-magazine with a price-tag. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The fact is everyone has a different taste for games. Buying a 96% game like Black and White will not guarantee you hours of fun unless you actually like that genre of games. I often bought games that were rated at 70%++ but I enjoyed every single bit of the game.

S&I doesn't have *any* real world weaponry... it's not a typo... it's a blatant lack of information on both mods

You didn't get B&W did you?

What the "96%" actually was is the proportion of people who actually like that genre of games who thought B&W was a terrible pile of horse crap.

They probably meant realistic weaponary...meaning....raw....real guns and bullets (meaning that it IS possible to make them today). No laser rifles and magic railguns.

S&I contains pistols, shotguns, tommyguns, crossbows, etc. They're all pretty real as in they exist in the real world, even thought they may not have models that match their real world versions.
