Wow, sexy! Before anyone else yells about it: the storyline excludes aliens from being anywhere near our solar system, so technically mars would be right out. But, I couldn't really care less. You can have it in your backyard if you want.

Screenshots look very nice, I get a definite mars feel from it. The only thing that might help is some variation in the lighting. From what I see it's all reds and oranges. Again, perfect for mars... but rather hard on the eyes after a while. And that readyroom is just hawt.

Yar, it is too red/orange. Throw in more white. Also, I noticed in Pipe Control, the textures on the pipe things look misaligned.

Otherwise, great job.

Anyways, what a surprise! I don't think i've seen anything about this map before and it looks really good!

Yeah but even if the lighting is intentional, there's got to be a happy medium between realistic looking martian lighting and OMG MY EYES ARE BLEEDING FROM ALL THE ORANGE.

Yes, as I said on IRC, if you have a facility on a red planet, why would you make the lighting inside of the facility just red? (or, well, more orange in this case but still)

Very unique, reminds me of Total Recall, and that's a good thing. Keep it up.
• unslordunslord Join Date: 2004-06-01 Member: 29059Members
The lighting is orange because the dust makes the lights glow that color, heh... personally my eyes like the colors, but if you guys don't like it that much it can be tweaked.
• ZyndromeZyndrome Join Date: 2003-03-28 Member: 14974Members
A contrast to all the orange lightning would be nice, like blue spotlights, for a both warm and cold feeling.

That's it! I knew it reminded me of something. Very Total Recall.

edit: to brute_force, i admit that variation in the indoor areas would help. colder white light coming from the interior would look excellent.

Bear in mind guys, he's only posted shots of 1 or 2 areas. Not every room will feature orange and red tones.

But from the areas we can see, it still looks orange. Even if the map has different colours in other areas, I still think some areas (maybe not all though) could use more contrasting lighting and more colours.

If you would like your map play tested i really recommend clan #cri. These guys are top notch in my book with loads of ideas and advice. Go to www.nonoobs.com or PM Forlorn. good luck

ps. I agree with the people that think the lighting is too orange red. Try and spice it up a little, the complement of orange is blue. Maybe experiment with that a little.

But isn't it the atmosphere that makes it look red?
I dunno but I think the sand itself isn't red (considering you're talking about mars planet)

I second with bob the janitor... aliens near our solar system is a big nono..

But im loving the few pics uve given us.The RR is like "Whoa" ur like looking at this massive entrance....although it would be nice to have a dark entrance to the alien team instead of a wall of infestation.
I like the way u have hinted the surface of this red planet(not mars!)by letting us glimps the red surface through gaps in the roof of the rooms etc and the lighting is very nice, although i hope some of the inside rooms/hallways will have some blues or greens to counter the fab reds... nice work
im really enjoying watching the progress of good looking maps like yours

we can finally visit the mars

this map reminds me a lot of quake 2, however the repetiveness of the lighting might cause people to get lost (don't forget green lighting at the hives ). Also, it seems that the route to the top left hive is smaller than all the rest, but not so much that it should pose a problem

I agree definetly needs some contrast to all the red.. and who cares if it's on "mars" I'm sure there are plenty of other red planets out there

i'm working on the sounds for this map, and we thought it might be neat to also have custom music. here is a rough version of what that will be like: http://gameover.com/neuroticjuicer/marineris1.mp3

i took inspiration from the existing ns music as well as a bit of the feel from the already-mentioned total recall (it might not be immediately evident though). tell me what you think! though it's a bit rough, it is almost done, and so any suggestions you have would be really helpful to me! thanks.
